Teofimo Lopez next fight will be a big step up says Arum

Post by Onekrazyrican »

This is what he told Greg Leon at Boxingtalk. Any ideas of who might it be?

GL: Does Teofimo Lopez have an opponent yet?

BA: "Yes."

GL: Who?

BA: "I can't tell you. They're going to send out a release and they'll all f**king jump on me if I tell you right now. But I can tell you it's going to be a very, very big step up. It'll definitely be somebody in the top ten and maybe closer to the top."

Guess we'll have to wait and see. Glad he's taking a big step, he appears to be ready for it.

Don't get your hopes.

Arum probably has no idea who's next.

He just feels obliged to talk up Lopez' next fight. Like all promoters, Arum's likely just blowing smoke.

Good point. And all 3 brings serious possibitily of beating Lopez now. I think this "big step" would not be so big

Arum won't put Lopez In with anyone who has even a 1% chance to beat him.

He has grand plans for the kid. Why spoil it before Lopez becomes a high profile name?

Pedraza would be the logical pick because if Teo handles him with more ease than Loma did that would give Lopez' career a MAJOR BOOST.

So, I heard from a good source around here they reached out to Pedraza for the Crawford-Khan under card and Pedraza is taking the fight :box:

Interesting choice IMO. Pedraza doesnt have the power to hurt Lopez but hes got the speed and skills to give him a real test. Also Shakur Stevenson will be facing Christopher Diaz on that same card. Bold moves from Top Rank

Great news!! Looks like ESPN's first-ever PPV will have a worthy undercard.

Not their first ever, but it is looking nice. I think Margarito/cintron was the first.

That was also their last one.

ESPN had promised getting into the PPV business, but for whatever reason (undoubtedly financial) the network never went any further with the idea until now.

A strong undercard is a necessity because frankly, Crawford-Khan by itself isn't going to attract too many buyers.

Strong undercards never attract meaningful buys.

Not for casual fans, who don't know Teofimo Lopez from Danny Lopez.

But hardcore fans, who may be on a budget, have to decide if they want to part with the $70 or so to purchase the PPV.

A strong undercard will be a good incentive to do so.

Weak undercards are a big reason why you aren't attracting meaningful buys unless you have Canelo on the card. Maybe Pac still means something but you get my point.

Boxing could use some of those MMA cards. I mean they get at least 2 different events out of the same card. The prelims have their own TV slot with their own main event. They sell the whole card with comments, even vignettes and almost every fighter gets a shot at making a statement.

You get familiarized with undercard fighters in actual fights rather than meaningless showcase That's how you get a bunch of names that ring a bell instead of having all eggs in one basket.

Don King was awful to his fighters but he knew how to build a PPV card.

Agree. Boxing undercards are trash comparing to ufc. Canelo - GGG 2 has decent undercard. And i strongly disagree that undercard does not matter. Lets say put Luis Ortiz vs Oscar Rivas to Canelo - Jacobs card and it will get serious boost despite Canelo star status.

I think The easiest matches to make would be Devin Haney or Jose Pedraza
