WBO Drops Ortiz from Rankings

Post by oogiebe »

The new WBO rankings dropped Luis Ortiz from eighth to out of the top 15, replacing him with Andy Ruiz Jr. When will an Organization come around that's at least less overt with their ridiculousness? So long as we have these four clown-like organizations, I fear the decline in popularity of boxing will never cease.

Really doesn't matter, he's either going to have another organization strap or be splattered soon enough.

Just looking deeper, it's the frustration level of moves like this that lessens any credibility the sport may have left. I'm no fan of Ortiz, just boxing.

Many orgs do this. Ruiz may not have been ranked top 15 WBO, now he's fighting for their belt as part of a unification, a month later and now he's ranked.

I get the Ruiz move. Seen it hundreds of times dating back to the 70's. But dropping your number eight guy to out of the rankings with no reasoning is just further maddening.

Yeh, would make sense to drop whoever is ranked 15.

TBH, Ortiz is looking to challenge the WBC no matter what.

WBO probably thought, no need for us to rank him today.

Maybe the fact that Ortiz declined a fight with AJ (the WBO’s champ) influenced their decision.

Whyte turned down an AJ fight also.
So I doubt that's the reason

Seriously, that was my thought, that Ortiz decided not to pay the fees.
They might not drop fighters off the rankings for drug or criminal reasons, but not paying the fees... :shame:

Perhaps they saw him in the ring and moved him to their new elephant division
