Born in St. Louis but now fighting and training out of Southern California, Martin (26-2-1, 23 KOs) showed heavy hands in racking up 20 knockouts in 23 fights before he captured a heavyweight world title with a victory over Vyacheslav Glazkov in January 2016. The 33-year-old has won three of his last four fights, most recently winning by DQ against Gregory Corbin in March on FS1. He will face West Virginia's Martz (18-6-1, 15 KOs), who has scored back-to-back knockout victories since losing to Luis Ortiz on FS1 in December 2017.

A nothing fight. I don't know why I'm wasting half a minute of my life to post this, never mind why it should be accorded the respect of getting it's own thread.
Re: Charles Martin vs. Daniel Martz - July 13, 2019
This is the fight that's going to vindicate everybody who had previously ranked Charles Martin in the top 10. They're going to be able to say "See? He beat Daniel Martz. This proves we were right all along."
Seriously, I hate that Charles Martin isn't attempting to get a legit win over a top 50 opponent. He seriously doesn't have one. Aside from his tainted win over the one-legged guy, his best win continues to be like Alexander Flores or somebody.

I mean it's all relative. He's good...but he ain't special. He's Top 30, maybe Top 20. So he's not a bum by the standards of normal mortals, but he's no threat to any of the guys at or near the top.oogiebe wrote: ↑06 Jul 2019, 15:47Martin isn't good. I purposefully didn't refer to him as a bum. But yes, he's certainly not special at all. His belt was won on an injury. He got KTFO in his only real title fight. Lost his only other fight against a live body.
Re: Charles Martin vs. Daniel Martz - July 13, 2019
I would just point out that Martin gave Kownacki a very good argument and Kownacki is the WBC challenger in waiting whos' next up for Deontay once he's splattered Luis Ortiz again.
He's no threat to the top guys but he's maybe 15 -20, not much lower, and he has been and can be in good fights. I am very pleased to see Charles back in the division but he doesn't need to be wasting his time and ours with feeble opposition like Martz. A mountain much conquered.

Martin expectedly KOed Martz. Martz tried to fight though, the bout had some brawling moments, but still it was a mismatch from the beginning.
Re: Charles Martin vs. Daniel Martz - July 13, 2019
Neither of these guys deserve TV coverage. I watched it, a few hours later as it was not a priority bout.
Nothing changes with Martin. I don't know why I expect it will. Maybe because he held a belt for a little while.

Unless either can get an opportunity against a higher rated opponent, Martin vs Washington seems a natural fight to make now seeing as they both won on this card and are probably rated similarly...

The former heavyweight beltholder picked up his second straight winning, stopping Daniel Martz in the 4th round of their PBC on FS1 preliminary bout Saturday evening at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minn.
Martz was floored twice in the bout, in rounds three and four with the latter prompting the stoppage at of round four.
round three. A left hand sent Martz reeling with a follow-up right hand to the body forcing the West Virginia native to the canvas. Martz beat the count, but was seemingly on the decline.
His demise would come one round later. A left hand shot to the body took the wind out of Martz, taking a knee as referee Celestino Ruiz issued a mandatory eight count. He managed to rise to his feet but couldn’t convince the third man he was still fit to fight.
The official time was 2:01 of round four, snapping Martz's modest two-fight win streak following a Dec. 2017 knockout loss to then-unbeaten Luis Ortiz.
Martin improves to 27-2-1 (24KOs) with the win, his second straight following a competitive 10-round loss to unbeaten Adam Kownacki last September. He’s more than three years removed from his brief title reign, having captured a belt in a 3rd round injury stoppage over Vyacheslav Glazkov in Jan. 2016 before handing it over to then-unbeaten Anthony Joshua just three months later.

What, like he did against Parker you mean?
If they had given the decision to Fury it would have been just a run-of-the-mill hometown decision, no robbery, and nothing to get excited about.
I'm glad they didn't because he didn't punish Parker but made him miss all night long, and landed more scoring punches. The fact is they could have given it to the Brit without too much complaint but they didn't.
