I think GGG vs Derevy for the IBF title may happen next

Post by apollo creed »

If GGG wins then he'd have a title to fight Canelo for the 3rd time.

IBF 160 rankings

Saul Alvarez

1. Sergiy Derevyanchenko
2. NOT RATED
3. Gennady Golovkin

“The IBF is expected to now officially order a middleweight title fight between Sergey Derevyanchenko and Gennadiy Golovkin, and it’s expected negotiations will go more smoothly, per sources. There’s no deal yet between GGG and Sergey Derevyanchenko, but it’s expected one will be completed soon. They’ll vie for the IBF middleweight vacated by Canelo once a deal is signed. That fight could take place Oct. 5 at Madison Square Garden, per sources, and of course, would be streamed by DAZN #bigdramashow,” said @MikeCoppinger. from BN24

Do you really think snagging a belt canelo was stripped of would be a chip for a 3rd fight?

They have a clever plan. All that stripping charade was a calculated move. GGG must get that belt to have a third fight with Canelo. Meanwhile Canelo may fight Andrade or Munguia.

"If Golovkin has a belt, yes, why not? We’ve given the fans two beautiful fights, two great fights. Why not a third?” said Canelo.

I’ll be shocked if Gennadiy Golovkin agrees to face Sergey Derevyanchenko.

It'd be something to be impressed, no doubt.
I have Derevyanchenko as a more dangerous opponent for GGG than Charlo or Andrade.

The difference is: he can get a decision against Golovkin, while nobody gets a decision against Canelo.

Canelo would easily beat Derev, absolutely no need for geenerous judging. Derev vs GGG is actually a good stylistic matchup

"The IBF on Monday formally ordered Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Gennady Golovkin to meet for its vacant middleweight world title. As expected, the sanctioning body sent a letter to both camps telling them to begin negotiations immediately for a fight that will fill the 160-pound world title stripped from Canelo Alvarez on Thursday, when his team did not finalize a deal with mandatory challenger Derevyanchenko.

"The IBF middleweight title was declared vacant on August 1, 2019. The IBF is therefore ordering that a bout take place between the two highest ranked contenders to fill this vacancy," IBF championships chairman Carlos Ortiz Jr. wrote in a letter to Alex Dombroff, the attorney for Derevyanchenko promoter Lou DiBella, and John Hornewer, the attorney representing Golovkin's GGG Promotions.

EDITOR'S PICKS

Canelo: Unaware of deal that cost IBF title belt
The Derevyanchenko and Golovkin camps have 30 days, or until Sept. 4, to make a deal. They then have another 15 days to submit signed contracts to the IBF for the fight that is slated to take place Oct. 5 -- the date Golovkin exclusive broadcaster DAZN has him penciled in for the second bout of his six-fight, nine-figure deal. If the camps cannot make a deal, the IBF will order a purse bid, but DiBella told ESPN he did not think that would be necessary."

"We knew the letter was coming and we've already been talking, and I'm very confident in short order that we will be able to close a deal,"
DiBella said. @Dan Rafael ESPN Senior Writer

It's gonna be a good fight to watch. :OhYes:

It would be a B level win, decent but not really good enough for haters to have to pull out all the stops to detract from. GGG already beat the guy who beat him of course. If you want to play the haha haters card, the best thing about this fight would be GGG fighting a guy some ppl said he was ducking.

Is that sarcasm? I think it's actually not bad.

I am bored of GGG vs Canelo, already saw GGG vs Jacobs, so I would put Derev as a top 3 guy at MW for GGG to face, with Andrade and Charlo. Stylistically it's much more entertaining then vs Andrade

Yeah it was sarcasm lol.

I just think middleweight is starting to run a little barren to be honest when it comes to guys that can really challenge both GGG and Canelo and like you, I'm not that interested in seeing the 3rd fight yet.

Ya, we need to see not done before pairings involving the following: Canelo, Charlo, Andrade, Jacobs, GGG, and I will count BJS too since I think he's going to come back to MW.

I'm okay with Derev, though I do think he's a tier below those guys above and it's more like a decent fight rather than one that really gets you pumping.
