Watching Barrera v morales
I know this probably belongs elsewhere, but watching it on YouTube now.
What a fight, for a combination of skill, will, toughness did any fight ever exceed this fight?
Superlative.

Just watched pacman v Marquez 1, pacman lucky to get a draw. I gave him 1 round after the 1st, which was 10-6 on paper, except that Marquez was making a fight of it at the end of round 1.
Re: Watching Barrera v morales
There's a story as to why Morales and Barrerra hated each other. I remember watching an episode of 24/7 and the camera is on Robert Garcia who says JCCjr told him the tale. Apparently it was something to do with a football game when they were young. They were in opposing teams and 1 guy put a bad tackle on the other which led to the 2 teams having an all out brawl and they hated each other since. Garcia was pissing himself telling it - wish i knew what episode it was.

I was at that fight at the Mandalay Bay, most people probably won't remember Antonio Margarito v Sergio Martinez was on the undercard.
Couldn't believe they sectioned off half of the arena due to the fact it didn't sell out.
Best fight I've ever been to.

Incredible battle, think I had it a draw when I last scored it, excellent trilogy
Re: Watching Barrera v morales
I thought it was because Morales was a poor kid and Barrera was from an well off family.Ricky wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 23:20 There's a story as to why Morales and Barrerra hated each other. Amazing fight, but the result was iffy, both great fighters, MAB was brilliant, loved it when he taught Naz some manners.
Re: Watching Barrera v morales
Such a weird fight, could have been called off in the first and denied us the four fights and the spectacular knock out at the end.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 22:29 Just watched pacman v Marquez 1, pacman lucky to get a draw. I still think 3 was a huge robbery. Márquez boxed his head off!

Re: Watching Barrera v morales
They're not even from the same town, Morales is from Tijuana, Barrera is from Mexico City on the opposite side of the country.

I was so happy when Marquez sparked him. I thought he won all their previous fights.Covfefe wrote: ↑23 Aug 2019, 05:16Such a weird fight, could have been called off in the first and denied us the four fights and the spectacular knock out at the end.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 22:29 Just watched pacman v Marquez 1, pacman lucky to get a draw. It’s been so long I don’t remember how I scored 1 & 2, but I did feel three was a robbery, Marquez boxed his head off for me. I jumped out of my seat with joy watching the end of the fourth, he earned that, it was one of those knockouts that we’ll be watching for ages too. It wasn’t controversial at all it was the full stop and definitive ending to their fights for me. Márquez was class.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑23 Aug 2019, 07:06I was so happy when Marquez sparked him. Without wanting to dilute his achievements I did feel Marquez's size was as suspicious as Pacquiao's was throughout his onslaught of welterweight.

Re: Watching Barrera v morales
Barrera Morales 1 is my favourite fight ever, partly because they're two of my favourite fighters ever, especially MAB.
I had this fight on DVD and Ian Darke opened his commentary with the great line "Well, the adrenaline is flowing here as the fighters prepare to walk to the ring...."

Exceed, no, it's almost the perfect fight, especially if you put "skill" as a factor. Comparable is the legendary Thrilla in Manila, Ali vs Frazier and the great fight Vasquez vs Marquez 3, although 1 and 2 are also great.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑22 Aug 2019, 20:03 I know this probably belongs elsewhere, but watching it on YouTube now.

Re: Watching Barrera v morales
Possibly yes but then for both of them to become professional, world class boxers around the same weight division and meet in a trilogy of fights is pushing it a bit I think, it would be good if it was true but it seems a bit Hollywood to me and the fact I've never heard that story before even when their rivalry was at it's most heated makes me very skeptical.
