Boxing on BT Sports

Post by maverick23 »

What’s going on with BT Sports?

Looking at what they’ve got planned and have had, they will have only had 1 show on regular BT up to the end of April (plus the 2 PPVs) and that show was mostly prospects, with a decent British title fight and a solid area level fight.

I thought FW was doing at least 20 shows a year on BT?!

We all give Sky a lot of stick on here but, compared with BT, they aren’t doing too badly - at least they’re actually showing some boxing!

Frank doesn't have enough big name fighters left to support 20 shows per year.

I know but surely one show/month isn’t too much?!

Or they could look at rights for other shows (like Sky have just confirmed the WBSS cruiser final and they’ve got the Golden contract).

Looks like Premier have took over the running - they had filed for admin before they came in.

There is a York Hall show to announce and Josh Taylor 2nd May (through Top Rank) but that’s it until June which isn’t much for 1st half of the year.

Warren does seem to be struggling to get shows put together losing Warrington/BJS as well.

Just listened to an interview with FW from today - no mention of a York Hall show. When asked if he’s got anymore shows to announce (he did mention Frankton in June 13th) he said a small show July 18th I.e. a U.K. show to hype the Fury v Wilder 3 PPV.

IFL (with the MTK shows) are doing a better job than BT this year

It's gotten to the stage where it's a joke really. Nowadays fights that would've never been PPV 5-10 years ago are, and spread across difference networks. I think a universal streaming platform like the one DAZN are trying to push is much better for the future, although getting that to come together with all the politics in boxing would be some feat...

Frampton v Herring will be PPV from Windsor Park as well - can’t imagine enough cash generated otherwise to hold that here.

Liam Williams will be on DaZn if he’s Andrade’s mandatory.

We haven’t mentioned on here the fact that Queensbury shows are legendarily unreliable. What’s to say the ticket sales for Dubois Joyce bomb and that gets ‘postponed.’

Corona might put paid to it anyway - then you might see Queensbury 2 appear after the 1st one goes skint.
