You are not. I don't remember specific boxers, but this was done during the 1980's on certain ESPN televised bouts, when ESPN had their own boxing champions and the ESPN tittle bouts did not allow for draws or ties.

Sanderline Williams was someone who could/should of been a main contender.

Split decision losses to Benn, Essett and Barkley, plus a draw against a young 20-0 Toney.

Being the opponent probably cost him a few wins, he took the Toney fight on 3 days notice.

The loss to Essett was the 13 round match. At the end of 12 rounds a draw was called , so they boxed the extra round , the NABF didn't recognize the extra round, so the title stayed vacant anyway.

Williams has probably done more rounds with world class knock out artists than most middleweights of the last 40 years

An extra tie breaker round to avoid draws in Championship bouts is actually a good idea. Too bad it didn't catch on with World Title bouts. I don't think any of us would object. Nobody really likes a draw.

They were less likely in 15 rounders. Never lilked the move from 15 to 12, but that's for another thread.

I would object. Nothing wrong with a draw, a 16th Rd would never have been implemented.

Some fights deserve a draw for sure, there is nothing that makes it so every fight has one guy who is superior

Funny thing is a lot of people hate on even rounds, but rarely do you see a judge score even rounds and a draw. You'll get like 115-114 or something often enough, but hardly ever 115-115

Judges should be forced to choose a winner, the one with an edge if their card ends in a draw. A draw is BS no way any fight I’ve witnessed ends in a draw. There is always someone you lean towards

They did that in the ams, if was a tie on the original score and then also the countback, they'd ask each judge to choose to a winner by lifting a little paddle thingy that was either red or blue

Personally I'm not too fussed on there HAVING to be a winner, don't really see why a draw won't due in fights that are that super close, except in situations like tournaments, in which case I'd want them to do an extra round rather than the judges being forced to score for someone, let the winner come naturally by someone earning it in the ring and not through judge coercion .

Draws would save a lot of the robbery cries too when the judges are forced to pick a winner in a super close fight

I've tried for years to find more details about his stoppage loss to Lindell Holmes, the only time in 15 defeats Williams was stopped which considering he went the distance with noted punchers like Benn, McClellan, Sosa, Lee, Toney etc.. I always wondered what the circumstances were.

Williams also gave Herol Graham hell in a 10-rounder in Belfast in the mid-1980s, in what was Bomber's first fight for Barney Eastwood after a much-publicised split from Brendan Ingle.
