Ok idea
Really poor execution
Everyone here knew it would fail... makes you wonder how the management there is so stupid

This is an interesting interview from Eddie Hearn from a day or so ago.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 18:44 Ok idea

Too much money getting thrown about for sure. His initial 2 year deal with DAZN, with the option to extend for a further 6, is due to expire in just 4 months time. Not looking good for him. Probably why he's back peddling in the interview.

Re: Dazn in need of financial rescue
They had to lose at least a half billion on boxing. No chance it could ever work based on a country that couldn't care less about boxing. Shame, I loved it and it was well worth the money even with the last 3 months with no fights.

You’ve been saying this for a while, but yes it’s a shame. It didn’t even come to Australia (disappointing for me). I just hope there’s not some type of contract conflict that sees fighters sidelined. Guessing, but I think it’s probably likely they won’t be able to afford Canelo‘s, AJs or even Golovkin’s next fights....There goes that historic contract. Again obviously I don’t know but doesn’t look good.

This could have worked in the us
10 per month
And spend monthly on cards like those super fly cards hbo had or great action matchups. That could have built something small and sustainable ... that and the wbss could have worked.
Blowing huge sums on GGG, canelo, jessie vargas (hahahahahahaha) doomed this to failure

They made Haymon look like he was underspending
Re: Dazn in need of financial rescue
Lol, Jesse Vargas. I didn’t know that. Hindsight talking....they didn’t slowly build up a brand, they went balls to the wall with huge spending and promises. Dazn looks like it will disappear as quickly as it appeared.Jeff_lacy_ko wrote: ↑23 May 2020, 21:19 This could have worked in the us

I don't know, but my guess is just the bankroll, dreams of 'conquering' America, leverage with UK TV and ego. Not saying that's nothing, but I'd wager Eddie made money on the venture.

If DAZN goes under, it’ll be a disaster for the sport of boxing.
Big fights we wanted to see probably won’t happen if DAZN ceases to exist.

DAZN was the hope that the murky, suspicious and rogue/criminal sport of boxing could be somewhat rehabilitated for the 21st century.
I doubt whether it will actually go down, not after all the hard work in setting up all that huge investment and infrastructure.
At the very least someone else will step in to pick up the pieces and nab themselves a great deal.
Please don't let it be one of the usual suspects.

Hey since GGG is a shareholder maybe Canelo can sue him as a creditor?

It’s must be run by idiots, was never gonna work, look how much money they were throwing at fighters, GGG getting a $100m contract once he was on the slide. Not to mention it’s a sport hardly anybody is interested in. Nobody is gonna invest in them.

Their whole plan was to buy up haymon fighters. That was a disaster.

DAZN makes the sport of boxing more accessible to fight fans because they don’t have fork out a lot of money paying one-off PPV fees.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑24 May 2020, 15:07They’ll still happen, fighters will still want to earn well and they will, it just won’t be as much once DAZN goes tits up
And if DAZN goes under, GBP and Matchroom US will need to find a new network to televise their bouts, which will likely result in fighters making the jump to ESPN+, Fox or Showtime.
Fighters will be earning less money and there’ll be more instances of cross-promotional cross-network rivalries preventing bouts from being made (i.e. ESPN’s Terence Crawford versus Fox/Showtimes PBC welterweights).
Boxers and fight fans will suffer if DAZN goes under.
Anybody that considers themselves a true die-hard fan of the sport of boxing should be concerned about DAZN’s current financial plight.
Re: Dazn in need of financial rescue
yeh i dont them to go either but it could be helpful if there is not much of a difference in pay with the 3 major promoters. So fighters can go to other promoters for their career than the money.
I hope this humbles hearn as well, the way he was talking about taken over the world and being really arrogant with the money

Re: Dazn in need of financial rescue
Writing is on the wall boxing isnt profitable at current salaries. When fury v wilder didnt make any money it became clear
There is a painful reset that is about to happen. Dazn and showtime boxing are about defunct. Espn hasnt made money on boxing and neither did fox. Dana white saw its impossible to make money and has shelved his attempted promotion. Who knows how much al haymon has left to spend but it cant be much

Re: Dazn in need of financial rescue
Maybe too early to write DAZN off. Owner Len Blavatnik is looking to raise $1.8 billion by listing Warner Music Groups shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
