Mike Tyson v Roy Jones Jr. knocks-out pre-sale PPV records

The ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ boxing bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. has broken pre-sale pay-per-view fight records.

The fight, taking place on November 28 at 9PM EST, will be available on PPV through cable and satellite providers internationally, and on the FITE.tv website and app. Triller, the video making and social media app, will also show and produce the event, with its co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh describing it as “a one-time, once-in-a-lifetime battle,” and that Tyson “transcends all mediums.”

FITE COO Michael Weber said that the company is “excited to be a part of this pop cultural event,” and added that “advance sales for this event will make this the most watched event in our 5-year history of streaming live sporting events.”

Weber noted that its partners, such as BT Sport in the UK, “are also reporting advance sales that will put it on par with other top UFC and Boxing events in the past few years.”

The event will also feature YouTuber Jake Paul take on basketball star Nate Robinson, along with a number of other bouts from current professional boxers and musical performances from the likes of Lil Wayne and Wiz Khalifa.

The headline bout between two retired icons of the sport has been hotly discussed by pundits. Some have questioned whether it is a real contest, while others in the industry have branded it a ‘farcical event’ between two ‘fifty-somethings’ who are only interested in the money.

Triller’s Kavanaugh has refuted that claim, saying: “Anyone who is saying this isn’t a real fight, or there won’t be a knockout or winner is now realizing uh oh…this is real. I think people were just in disbelief they were actually going to witness a real Tyson fight. But it is as real as real gets. There will be a winner. Knockouts are allowed.”

The PPV event will cost £19.95/€29.99 in the UK and Ireland, while US viewers will spend US$49.99 to see ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson step into the ring again.

Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. pass initial VADA drug tests

Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. have both passed the drug tests administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).

Tyson, 54, and Jones, 51, will fight for a maximum of eight two-minute rounds in a special exhibition fight this Saturday in Los Angeles, California. Ahead of the bout, both men underwent VADA drug tests, and according to ESPN reporter Marc Raimondi, both passed.

No, i don't think they'd beat the top guys. They're just too big nowadays but I have zero doubts about how trash hwt is that they could be some top 30 guys.

Danny Williams is still fighting and is ranked 356th by this site, today he'd finish either of these in a quicker time than he done when Tyson was in his 30's, simply because he's an active fighter.

BT Sport are promoting this shite fest even after it failed to attract any interest to keep it as a PPV.
Anyone staying up to 4-6am to watch it needs looking at. I gather they are the same who got their knickers wet over the youtubers fight and Floyd Mayweather V the Irish gobshite and are oblivious to serious fights, ones even as big as Dubois V Joyce.
These shitfests are embarrassing to boxing and make BT Sport look like a shower of twats of a sports broadcaster, as they and SKY saw the Kell Brook fight as less worthy for TV than this debacle.

Imo it's a stupid fight in terms of health and competitivity b/c both men are old and faded. It's only an exhibition fight to make some big $ and maybe to boost the boxing world. I hope it's just a light sparring session.

In a ideal world probably in 2000-2001 this match would've been a decent one although even at that time Tyson was done.
