Heavyweights:Tommy Morrison versus Anthony Joshua

Post by AntonioMartin »

There is a discussion on facebook about this fight, and I was ridiculed by someone for saying Tommy has only a puncher's chance in this one...

What do you guys think: who, how and why?

Even ageing Povetkin was able to get to Joshua early on, Morrison would be able to do it as well. Tommy wasn't only about power, he could deliver it well. Joshua should fight very cautious against such types of boxers, but we've seen enough flaws of AJ.

Both were hard-hitting and had not the best chins, both definitely could hurt each other. Joshua would have an advantage going to the later rounds, his stamina is better.

Morrison had a lot of chances to get to Joshua methodically in the early rounds, but the longer fight goes, the more chances go for AJ.

Morrison by early KO or Joshua by late KO.

Not a good fight for Morrison prime-against-prime.

Tommy would surely give it a proper go but Joshua is too big, too fast and can also hit a smaller guy who would need to take some proper risks into the bargain just as hard. If not harder and Tommy was not equipped for that.

Better fight if Joshua was facing Morrison whilst still on his way up. Replace Dillian Whyte with Tommy Morrison at fight 15 on the AJ ledger and it gets properly interesting for my money. Morrison could finish at that point,

AJ gets hit of smaller guys and often, look at Ruiz and Takam fights.

It’s 50/50 who goes. If Joshua fights like Ruiz 2 he wins if he does his usual he’s knocked out.

AJ by KO in about 7. He's got the reach, power, and chin advantage. Morrison's power is a little overrated on this forum.

Morrison has big pluses and some big minuses. A lot could of different scenarios could develop in a fight like this. No way that Joshua would have actually taken a fight like this though against Morrison in his prime; way too risky.

Morrison was aggressive and had some power. That alone gives him a chance against Joshua. Ruiz beat him, so yes Morrison has a chance. Obviously Morrison has some weaknesses and he might get blown out. A fighter like him is unpredictable. Joshua usually fights senior citizens, so it is doubtful that he would have taken this fight had he fought in the same era as Morrison.

At least Vaulin and Hipp. Also, Carl Williams was still there, I'd call that fight his last hurrah.

Williams always had a glass jaw and Vaulin and Hipp never went very far.

A motivated Morrison would stop Joshua.
