It's obviously an anomaly, but we need to remember the BoxRec points system is based on a flawed mathematical calculation.

Josh Taylor’s victories over Jose Carlos Ramirez and Regis Prograis would have gained the Scot a lot of rankings points, but his other victories weren't particularly remarkable.

Also, Gervonta Davis has competed in more bouts, fought more world champions, engaged in more world title fights and achieved success in more weight classes.

The American has also faced more guys with 10+ BoxRec points than Taylor has.

For the record, I’m not suggesting that Gervonta Davis is a better fighter than Josh Taylor, but I can understand the reason why he’s accumulated more BoxRec rating points.

Look at Terence Crawford's ratings, he's fought nobody of any note within the last four years, but yet he's still rated highly by BoxRec.

It just goes to show that it's impossible to use a formula to accurately gauge ratings.

You know, that exactly such issues and possible solutions are discussed in the ratings thread. You know from the ratings thread, that there is an actually considered rating option, where Crawford would be #2 in his division. And you know that with the same option Davis would be only close above Josh Taylor.

In spite of that you play the big man here. Your are a troll,, what a pathetic character, I now learned. Nobody to take seriously, sorry.

If solutions are discussed nothing is ever put into action apparently because they've sucked since always, and still do. Davis isn't Top 5 at 140. Barely Top 5 at Lightweight either.

140 has the clearest #1 in the entire sport!

Can you please refute the following facts?

• BoxRec once rated Luis Nery as being sixth on their pound-for-pound ratings.

• BoxRec once rated Jeff Horn amongst the pound-for-pound elite (they ranked him in 9th place).

• Chris Eubank Jr. was once rated above the likes of Naoya Inoue, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Donnie Nietes and Mikey Garcia in the BoxRec pound-for-pound ratings.

• Billy Joe Saunders was once rated 4th according to BoxRec's 168lb rankings, before he'd even fought in that weight class.

• Demetrius Andrade is currently rated 11th on BoxRec’s pound-for-pound list.

Jermall Charlo is currently rated 6th on BoxRec’s pound-for-pound list.

And if the points I’ve written are accurate, then can you please explain the reason why you were so offended by my post?

You can’t seriously pretend that it’s possible to use formula to accurately gauge ratings, because anomalies are inevitable if you’re only considering statistics and equations.

Mathematical hocus pocus cannot be defended here. Tank topping ANY 140 ranking can only be considered evidence that the system is pitifully flawed.

he would be #1 at 154 too

i do like boxrec rankings in general, but obviously the system produces some anamolies. maybe tanks ranking situation can be educational and lead to some good tweaks

According to BoxRec, Oliver McCall is rated the 20th greatest heavyweight of all time, above the likes of George Foreman (21st), Larry Holmes (27th) and Jack Dempsey (70th).

I swear boxrec rankings about 3 years ago were excellent. It was when they were really rating quality over quantity.

Quantity? Quality? They have a boxer who has had one match at the weight rated above the undisputed, unified champion. It does not matter how you deconstruct the equation/algorithms, there is no rationalization in this reality for it.

P4p isn't as bothersome as 40. Wilder at 12 is madness. Fury, aj & charlo look pretty freaking high. Inoue too low.

Firstly, welcome back
And what disturbs me is who the heck has Tank beaten?
Even Maggie had trouble doing his top #5.
Barrios - a third tier SLW is probably his 2nd or 3rd best win.
It's baffling.

Thank you. I'm an eye tester as much as resume with p4p. Too hard to stretch the time line. Id have Josh higher there too, but tank looks the part and I rate barrios. LSC is a bit undervalued IMO.

LSC has been prime for cherry picking. Left it all in the ring with Frampton and never shown that level since.

tank davis rated over josh taylor?

Post by polishpower »

Josh Taylor has beaten Jose Ramirez #5, Regis Prograis #3, Viktor Postal #8, and Ivan Baranchyk. Tank Davis has beaten Mario Berrios #13. Boxing Record rates Tank Davis #1 and Josh Taylor #2. It seems pretty clear that Josh Taylor should be ranked #1 in the world at 140 pounds.

no one he's beaten is elite or super good, but some of them are pretty good and he beat them hard

obviously he has more to prove and needs to beat an elite name to really match the hype and the level that i think his potential is

problem is that theyve said he's only fighting pbc dudes, which cuts out most of the best guys from 130-140
