Deontay Wilder claims to have lifted 310lbs.
Thoughts?

Beat me to it.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Jun 2021, 09:43 Wilder’s bench press doesn’t appear to be 310lbs to me.
310lbs equates to 140kg’s.
The barbell weighs 20kg, with the biggest plates you’ll typically find in a public gym being 20kg.
Therefore, to lift 140kg’s, the barbell would have to be loaded with three big plates on either side.
For comparison purposes, here’s a video of Dillian Whyte benching 310lbs (barbell plus three 20kgs plates on either side), immediately followed with him doing reps with 440lbs (barbell plus four 20kg plates and one 10kg plate on either side):
I know it's a boxing forum and this doesn't really matter, but I don't see the point in Wilder lying about what he can lift.
Agree with everything you say. And it’s clear Wilder skips leg day!Cyclops wrote: ↑29 Jun 2021, 09:53 310lbs is about 140kg, isn't it? I personally can't lift that but I'm not a 6'7" professional athlete. Plenty of guys I train with in the gym can bench that, probably for reps. That was a one rep max with dreadful form and he was being spotted, too. I'm sure Dillian can probably easily beat that.
Is Deontay Wilder really that much of a tool in real life, jumping around and screaming and making train noises or has he got to the point where he's just playing dumb for the cameras? Playing the heel?
Also what's the point of having your headphones on to ignore Fury's mind games if you're going to listen to them anyway and respond to them afterwards on social media?
I would also add, upper body strength and bench press in particular isn't really what Deontay needs to work on, is it?
I watched a guy yesterday repping a 50kg dumbbell in each hand for 8 reps, and he was doing that for sets. He'd be like a mini Wilder in terms of physique (I think he's Somali or something, so that kind of stretched out skinny legged look) but probably about 5'11. I reckon he could probably achieve Wilder's 'feat of strength'. He's nowhere near the biggest or strongest guy that trains there.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Jun 2021, 10:08Agree with everything you say. I'm a novice powerlifter and would say that my strength is decent when it comes deadlifts and squats, but my bench pressing is weak.
Prior to the lockdown shenanigans, I lifted about 105kg’s, which is better than the average gym goer, but very weak in the context of the volume and specialist training I perform.
In fairness, I do pause pressing rather than touch-and-go, which is clearly more difficult than Wilder’s technique.
But I do regularly see guys in my gym performing reps on 140kg's or more. So it's not an extraordinary achievement in my eyes.
That said, I can’t bench anywhere near remotely close to 310lbs. And it looks like Wilder can’t either, because the plates he’s using seem too small to me. His technique is appalling.
Dillian Whyte’s lifts look legit to me, though I can’t help thinking he’s receiving a little assistance from his spotter with his 440lbs lifts.
I was trying to offer some valuable insight oogs. I don't really care either
LOL! I know what you did there. Just figure I'd sum it up!gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Jun 2021, 13:17I was trying to offer some valuable insight oogs. I don't really care either
Certainly not about Whyte's comment, but I get what he's doing. He's trying to constantly talk sh*t to keep his name in the running for a big fight with one of these guys.
Dillian can probably bench the 3 plates but in that video he's getting assisted on both lifts. I never understand why people post up videos where they are getting help to lift a weight. Neither of those lifts go up without the spotter touching the bar so neither would count in a powerlifting meet.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑29 Jun 2021, 09:43 Wilder’s bench press doesn’t appear to be 310lbs to me.

I think he struggles with a plate for 10. That's 132.apollo creed wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 07:54 I wonder how much weight can Wilder deep squat with his bambi legs ?
154-176 pounds x 10 clean reps ?
Wilder takes the leg days lightly thinking this is boxing and the hands do all the work. lolMonzon83 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 10:56I think he struggles with a plate for 10. That's 132.apollo creed wrote: ↑01 Jul 2021, 07:54 I wonder how much weight can Wilder deep squat with his bambi legs ?

ATG squats i don't see him getting a set of 10 with that weight. Be funny to watch him though i guess that's one video not even Wilder is daft enough to post.
