Joseph Parker vs. Derek Chisora 2 | DAZN - December 18, 2021

Announcing the fight, Matchroom said: “On Saturday, December 18, Joseph Parker (29-2, 21 KOs) faces off against the mercurial Brit Derek Chisora (32-11, 23 KOs) in a rematch of their 12-round war in May 2021.

“Parker, the former WBO Heavyweight Champion, has tallied five straight wins since losing against Dillian Whyte for the WBO International Heavyweight Title.

“Derek ‘WAR’ Chisora is looking to bounce back after losing by split decision against Parker and by unanimous decision against Oleksandr Usyk in October 2020.

“The event will be live worldwide on DAZN (except New Zealand and Samoa).”

That’s the big difference from the first meeting. There is now no longer the Sky Sports Box Office option for the event.

DAZN and Matchroom have announced three premium fights nights to add to an ever-increasing fall fight schedule. All will be live and worldwide on DAZN.

Confirming the three events, DAZN promised a lot more fight nights after fans and media questioned a lack of announcements over the summer.

Canelo Alvarez moving on for his next fight was one of the major reasons for the delay.

Those three new events are:

• October 16: Former four-weight world ruler Mikey Garcia returns against European Super-Lightweight Champion Sandor Martin. Chukchansi Park in Fresno, CA.
• October 30: WBC Interim Heavyweight World Champion Dillian Whyte faces Swedish fighter, Otto Wallin. Live from The O2 in London and worldwide on DAZN.
• December 18: Heavyweights Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora rematch in another epic clash at the AO Arena in Manchester. Live worldwide on DAZN (except New Zealand and Samoa).

DAZN

Ed Breeze, EVP Rights at DAZN, commented: “These three excellent fights are a testament to the great partnership that continues to flourish with Matchroom globally.

“Our schedule for the rest of the year is shaping up nicely. It’s filled with World Champions, grizzled veterans, and exciting up-and-coming talent.

“We look forward to continuing to unveil more blockbuster fight nights as part of our ongoing commitment to deliver value to boxing fans worldwide.”

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn said: “Matchroom and DAZN’s stacked upcoming schedule just got even better with these three blockbuster additions.

“First up on October 16, four-weight king Mikey Garcia returns to action in a difficult assignment against Barcelona’s European Super-Lightweight Champion Sandor Martin in Fresno, CA.

“‘The Body Snatcher’ Dillian Whyte returns home to The O2 on October 30. He puts his Interim WBC heavyweight world title against Otto Wallin.

“Wallin is the man that came so close to inflicting a loss on Tyson Fury.

“Then, on December 18, Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora go to war again at Manchester Arena. Catch it all live and exclusively around the world on DAZN.”

-------------------------------------
Back in May, a heavyweight crossroads fight saw former WBO world champion Joseph Parker get off the floor to win a twelve round split decision over veteran Derek Chisora.

It was a close fight that saw Parker get decked in the very first round.

Chisora was not happy with the scoring and there were observers who felt he had done enough to win.

After the fight, both boxers expressed their desire to have a rematch to set the record straight.

According to Parker's manager, David Higgins, the two sides are now discussing the possibility of a rematch for later in the year, at a venue to be determined in the UK.

"There's talk of Derek Chisora and a rematch," said Higgins to Sky Sports. "If I was Chisora, I'd be planning my retirement after that fight, if it is to happen.

"It's under negotiation now, so the fight is not confirmed. What I do know is that Chisora has vocally said he wants a rematch with Joseph Parker. Joseph is quite happy to fight Chisora again. He knows exactly what he's dealing with now.

"Chisora had that early first round punch, but Joseph is confident he can make good work of Chisora and put him away into retirement. He's got no problems taking the fight.

"The discussions have looked at later in the year, October, November. I think the UK would be sensible, obviously because they are both household names in the big UK market."

Parker is currently in camp with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Parker is trained by Andy Lee, who is part of Fury's training team. Fury is scheduled to fight on July 24, in a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Press Release | Undercard Update

Joshua Buatsi will face former World Title challenger Maxim Vlasov on the undercard of Joseph Parker’s huge rematch with Derek Chisora at the AO Arena in Manchester on Saturday December 18, live worldwide on DAZN (with the exception of New Zealand and Samoa).

Buatsi (15-0, 13 KOs) scored his tenth knockout in a row when he stopped Latvia’s Ricards Bolotniks in the eleventh round of their WBA Light-Heavyweight World Title Eliminator on the third and final week of Matchroom Fight Camp in August.

That win followed on from his brutal fourth-round stoppage of undefeated Frenchman Daniel Blenda Dos Santos in May and the 28-year-old contender returns to the famous arena next month to take on his toughest challenge yet in the professional ranks.

Russia’s Vlasov (45-4, 26 KOs) dropped a controversial twelve-round majority decision to the USA’s Joe Smith in a challenge for the vacant WBO Light-Heavyweight World Title earlier this year and the former Interim Cruiserweight World Title challenger is determined to bounce back by becoming the first man to defeat Buatsi.

Also on the card, undefeated New Malden Super-Middleweight talent Lerrone Richards (15-0, 3 KOs) looks to build on his impressive EBU European Title win against Giovanni De Carolis in May when he takes on unbeaten IBO 168lbs World Champion Carlos Gongora (20-0, 15 KOs).

Gongora created history by becoming Ecuador’s first ever World Champion when he scored a spectacular twelfth-round knockout win over Kazakhstan’s Ali Akhmedov last December before stopping Christopher Pearson in his maiden defence of the title on the Andrade vs. Williams undercard.

‘Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver’ Jack Cullen (20-2-1, 9 KOs) returns to the scene of his Fight of the Year contender with Felix Cash back in 2019 as he clashes with Germany’s Emre Cukur (17-1, 3 KOs) for the vacant EBU European Super-Middleweight crown following his win over Avni Yildirim in July.

Manchester Super-Featherweight contender Zelfa Barrett (26-1, 16 KOs) hopes to make it three wins from three fights in 2021 as he meets Australia’s Bruno ‘The Terminator’ Tarimo (26-2-2, 5 KOs) in a Final Eliminator for the IBF World Title.

Derby Super-Lightweight prospect Sandy Ryan (2-0, 1 KO) is out to impress again after her vicious body shot knockout win over Aleksandra Vujovic last month in Italy, unbeaten Cruiserweight Jordan ‘Troublesome’ Thompson (11-0, 9 KOs) looks for another big KO in his home city, New Zealand Cruiserweight David Nyika (1-0, 1 KO) fights in the UK for the first time and Anthony Crolla-trained Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (3-0) returns to action.

Joseph Parker to be more aggressive in Dereck Chisora rematch on Dec.18th

Parker looking forward to Chisora rematch

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of fighting Chisora again in a rematch,” said Joseph Parker to Pro Boxing Fans. “It was different from any other fight I’ve had because we were all stuck in a bubble in the same hotel. Wherever you go to, you run into your opponent. It was a good fight, and it was very close, and I’m very happy I got the win.

“He [Chisora] put it on in the beginning, and I was moving around, and he caught me with a good shot at the beginning at right at the start of the fight,” said Parker.

“Derek is one of those fighters that is very tough, he comes forward and throws big bombs, and he never gives up until the very end. I thought it was a close fight, but when I watched it back, I thought I won the fight clean,” Parker said of Chisora.

“A lot of people thought it was close and felt he won or I won. It’ll be good to run it back and see who is actually going to get it this time.

“He [Chisora] is probably the most pressure fighter I’ve ever been in the ring with,” said Parker. “I’ve had Dillian Whyte, Andy Ruiz, but Chisora, he just comes forward, and you have to give him a big one to get him to stop, but he just keeps going forward and doesn’t stop. That makes for an exciting fight,” Parker said.

Parker wants to throw more punches

“You can’t just move around. You have to take risks and mix it up. We showed glimpses of it in the first fight, and hopefully, in the second fight, we can show a lot more.

“I feel like what we’re working on now is a very similar game plan, but it’s going to be. And I have to get in and throw more punches and be more aggressive. I can say it, but until the fight happens, I have to show it.

“He’s got a new trainer and has been training hard since the fight. And he’s fit; he’s strong and ready to go,” said Parker of the 37-year-old Chisora. “I’m not sure if he’s going to be nice before the fight, and I’m not sure what he’s going to bring. I’m just going to be focusing on myself.

“I feel it’s a lot better than the first,” said Parker about his coach Andy Lee. “The first one [training camp] was getting the introduction and getting to know a different style.

“So, I feel with this second camp, everything is flowing a lot better and a lot quicker than it did in the first camp. I’m excited to put in the world and see what the results are fight time,” Parker said of his rematch with Chisora.

I thought Chisora deserved the victory over Parker in their first fight.

However, I am fearful of Chisora’s recent split from David Haye.

Whilst Del Boy was working with the Hayemaker, Chisora was forced to adhere to a very strict training and dietary regime, which resulted in an immediate return to form.

He looked good in the Whyte rematch, and did really well against Szpilka, Price, Usyk and Parker.

But Dereck Chisora has got a lot of miles on the clock and he could grow old overnight, especially if he’s lacked discipline during training camp, which we’ve previously witnessed earlier on in Del Boy’s career.

Therefore, I’m fully expecting Parker to stop Chisora in shocking fashion, whilst conceding the possibility the Brit might have enough pride left to rise from the deck to survive en route to losing by a lop-sided decision victory.

I just cannot imagine any scenario that results in a victory for Chisora over Parker.

I would really like to see Joseph Parker win. He's a really nice guy and I think he's someone who never quite gets much credit or attention.

Chisora, I'm a big fan of too--- but he hasn't been his best in a number of years. Don't get me wrong he can still be a spoiler, kind of like how Bert Cooper was back in the day.

It's definitely a crossroads fight. Whoever loses should honestly consider hanging up the gloves for good and calling it a day because there is no upward momentum.

Whoever wins ought to have a fight with Andy Ruiz. I think that would be pretty good. But this is heavyweight boxing we sell them ever see what we really want.

I'd love to see Chisora-Ruiz Jr. or Parker Ruiz Jr. II.

Both guys would lose to the Mexican, but they'd definitely be fun fights.

This will likely look the same as the first fight without the knockdown for me.

Should he win, Parker needs to get Eddie to get him an opponent with more momentum rather than the Matchroom regulars. He's still an opponent in this match to be honest. Get him in against the likes of Yoka/Bakole winner, Joyce, Helenius, Sanchez, Wallin, Hrgovic etc.

Source

Jack Cullen (20-2-1) and Emre Cukur (17-1) clash for the vacant EBU super middleweight title December 18 in Manchester.

Cullen is ranked # 6 and Cukur # 8 in the latest EBU rating, but all of the fighters above are busy elsewhere.

Yea noone wanted it but they got it now. I dont mind it, last fight wasnt great, dosent mean this one wont be. It fit my rematch criteria of "close fight, controversial decision (not to me), and doesnt really get in the way of any other must happen fights".

Parker needs to stop derek here, or it needs to become an absolute war. Because the fact noone is keen on this fight is clearly his fault. A boring decision and who the fornicate wants to watch him next time out... (i guess WBO will always keep him in the world title convo.)

Parker is ranked in the top 5 by most bodies. He cant be far away from a big elimination match for a title shot. Chisora always puts in a good effort, but always comes just short at the top level. A classic gatekeeper, at a good level.

I want Parker to win, but Chisora is one of those guys you can never quite write off completely. Regardless I think this is a genuine crossroads fight where this is basically everybody's last chance to be something again in this division.

Problem is neither of these men could ever beat Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, or Wilder or Joshua. So the question really becomes, "What's next?," and the only thing I can see happening is either a Hughie Fury rematch or maybe an Andy Ruiz rematch.

Parker is 29. He is the only guy in the top 10 in his 20s. I think he lost a lot of momentum, but a good win vs chis could get some of that back, other than that he is high in the WBO, so should get a shot at someone for something in not toooo long.

I think we kind of forget just how young Joseph Parker was when he started. I think he was only 20-21 years old when he stopped Frans Botha back in 2013.

yea won a world title at about 24. Underated carrer really, Had a stinker reff vs AJ (probably would of lost without it but still fucked the fight). Then got headbutted vs whyte a fight im very confedent he would of won by stoppage. pre headbut (only a few mins to judge off) he was way to fast, way to sharp.

Yes Parker started young and has certainly showed his potential over the years. As a kiwi myself I am always cheering for him but for the past 5+ years he is always just short of proving to be a dominant, dangerous heavyweight.

Under Kevin Barry his team were always saying he needs to win & win convincingly to be considered a top contender amongst the heavyweights. JP said this yet again on his recent IFL interview. Either he has reached his peak or his training was holding him back. With a full camp under Andy Lee, I think the Chisora rematch will truly show what his future will hold in the division. Another boring decision or loss could be the sign he is on the way out and may not ever hold a title again

I want a solid win needs it for momentum but i think a boring win will be ok in this instance due to his WBO rating. if he wins should still get a shot at a vacant title vs joyce at some point i think. if he beats chis then i think he will go into a bit of a waiting mode, should fight breazeal or somthing, good less dangerouse prep for joyce.
