Good fight and im glad to see it in april not june... Not great for Fury and whyte, never want to be USA ppv the week after a USA ppv but i like spence giving himself the chance to fight 3 times, and the near garrentee to fight twice in 2022.

This is a ppv. Not an excellent one but a reasonable one to me. Ugas is quality coming of beating manny pac, unification arguably 1 and 3 in the world (on welterweight scho ment).
This is 100x better than Thurman vs barros..

These guys can’t even crack half a million buys, Spence hasn’t seen Near 400k since M. Garcia either.
PPV was for marquee fights, no we have to endure PPV just for the sake of fights being made and the boxers being paid more.

Hard to see Haymon letting his no. 1 highest value welterweight asset losing to an old, zero draw Cuban. This fight as pbc riggery written all over it. Spence clear decision, Ugas to be rewarded for playing soft with two or three more lucrative pbc paydays.

Spence and PBC obviously ducking Savannah.

Ugas revealing this is an in house pbc set up. Wonder who they hired to write the script. Company production.
Hope they give us some good odds on spence because there is no chance in hell that haymon will let his no. 1 welterweight asset lose to a zero draw 38 year old cuban.

They say that if you beat Manny that you become Manny Pacquiao.... so:
Will Yordenis Ugas win the Philippines presidential elections?
Will Ugas have a boxing match vs Connor McGregor?
Is Mayweather gonna come out of retirement to fight Ugas?
Or is he just some irrelevant b-class boxer who got lucky vs an undersized ancient atg?

wow!
Showtime have outbid FOX for the PPV rights of this bout.
When FOX extended for a final year option, we knew they’d have less on Regular FOX and more PPV’s as we have already seen. This is due to lower license fees which was agreed.
Showtime already beat out FOX on last years Canelo-Plant bout too.

Spence-Ugas: Showtime To Distribute Pay-Per-View Fight April 16 From AT&T Stadium
Showtime will distribute another high-profile Premier Boxing Champions pay-per-view fight FOX Sports executives initially believed they would televise.
Boxing Scenehas learned that Showtime will handle production and marketing of the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas fight April 16 in Arlington, Texas. Spence (27-0, 21 KOs), of DeSoto, Texas, and the Cuban-born, Miami-based Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) will fight for Spence’s IBF and WBC welterweight titles and Ugas’ WBA belt at AT&T Stadium, the home venue of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
Showtime previously out-bid FOX for the right to distribute the Canelo Alvarez-Caleb Plant super middleweight title unification fight, which Alvarez won by 11th-round technical knockout November 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Since then, Showtime has distributed the Gervonta Davis-Isaac Cruz pay-per-view fight December 5 and FOX Sports televised the Luis Ortiz-Charles Martin pay-per-view show January 1 and the Keith Thurman-Mario Barrios pay-per-view event this past Saturday night.
FOX Sports distributed each of Spence’s past three fights – victories over Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter and Danny Garcia that all headlined pay-per-view events. Showtime televised each of Spence’s previous three fights – wins against Kell Brook, Lamont Peterson and Carlos Ocampo – live on that premium cable channel.
Al Haymon’s PBC has output deals with FOX Sports and Showtime.
FOX Sports picked up its fourth-year option on its PBC deal late last year at a reduced rate for license fees. As part of that option year, FOX will televise fewer PBC cards overall on free TV and its basic cable channel, FS1, in 2022.
Showtime – which, like BS.com, is owned by ViacomCBS – continues to televise at least one “Showtime Championship Boxing” card per month. It also airs regular installments of its long-running prospect series, “ShoBox: The New Generation.”
PBC and Showtime have aggressively pursued Alvarez for a return engagement with those two companies for the Mexican superstar’s next fight, which could take place May 7. If the four-division champion chooses to stay with PBC and Showtime, he would fight WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) in his next fight, a 168-pound championship match.
Boxing Scene has confirmed, however, that Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) is seriously considering accepting a two-fight deal from DAZN that could reach $100 million in total value.
If Alvarez were to return to DAZN, which streamed each of his six bouts before he beat Plant (21-1, 12 KOs), he would box unbeaten WBA light heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) in his first fight, presumably on May 7. If the Guadalajara native were to beat Bivol, he would finally face rival Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) a third time in a super middleweight title fight later this year.
A third Alvarez-Golovkin clash also would hinge on Golovkin, who owns the IBF and IBO middleweight titles, defeating WBA world middleweight champ Ryota Murata (16-2, 13 KOs) in a 160-pound title unification fight that has yet to be rescheduled from its original date of December 29. The Golovkin-Murata match was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Murata’s home country of Japan.

I don't really like PBC..
They have made some good fights over the years, but all in all, bad for the sport.

I’m not sure the PBC have been really that bad for the sport.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑10 Feb 2022, 06:35 I don't really like PBC..
They have made some good fights over the years, but all in all, bad for the sport.
They initially attempted to return boxing to the gold old “free-to-air” days, but it failed, because not enough fans were tuning in, resulting in the networks refusing to extend their deals with the PBC.
And after agreeing a four-year deal, Fox ran out-of-cash due to COVID-19… and the only reason they didn’t drop the PBC last year, was because the one-year extension allowed them to cover every boxing event as PPV’s.
For sure, I don’t think things have worked out well for the PBC and they've made some strange decisions, but things haven’t gone smoothly for the other two boxing content providers either, Top Rank and Matchroom.
DAZN doubled their initial subscription price and are now introducing PPV’s (when they previously promised not to do so), because they don’t have enough subscribers – they even admitted to losing interest in competing in the US territory.
And it seems their recent attempts to take over the UK market have failed, due to them having to abandon their acquisition of BT Sports.
Also, Top Rank often allows their biggest name stars to appear on rival network/promoter fight cards, because they can’t afford to stage those bouts themselves, probably because ESPN’s PPV buy-rates have traditionally been very poor.
Top Rank’s deal with ESPN expires in three years’ time. And their viewing figures haven’t been great. So I’m assuming there’s a possibility that might not be renewed.
I just think boxing is in a really bad place right now. And the hostile political aspect of the sport is due to fact there’s not enough money to keep everyone happy.

Every promoter will just sell events via a website/app deal.

I'll be surprised if DAZN, Fox and ESPN will be covering boxing in three years’ time.
I reckon at least two of those broadcasters will abandon the sport before the end of 2025.
And at least 50% of the PBC’s roster will be released within the next few years, because Al Haymon won’t be able to keep hundreds of boxers active.

They'll still be involved in Boxing. Showtime have their app, as do FOX.. So will probably stream more cards instead of TV. Unelssyou get the odd big fight.
ESPN have ESPN+, they already use their app for a lot of TR's cards anyway.
Other promoters will resort to FITE.tv
Don't know what will happen in the UK.
Sky seem to want to keep boxing, as it's the only sport which make THEM money.

Jose Valenzuela-Francisco Vargas To Be Part Of Spence-Ugas Undercard April 16
Jose Valenzuela has agreed to take a step up in competition.
Boxing Scene has learned that the 22-year-old lightweight prospect will face former WBC super featherweight champion Francisco Vargas on April 16. The 10-round bout between the Mexican-born, Seattle-based Valenzuela and Mexico City’s Vargas will be part of the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Showtime will air Vargas-Valenzuela as one of four fights on its pay-per-view platform that night. Spence (27-0, 21 KOs), of nearby DeSoto, Texas, and the Cuban-born Ugas (27-4, 12 KOs) will fight for Spence’s IBF and WBC welterweight titles and Ugas’ WBA “super” championship in the 12-round main event.
Valenzuela (11-0, 7 KOs), who is trained by the father of former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez, has displayed promise, particularly offensively, during fights that have been broadcast by FOX and FS1.
In his most recent bout, Valenzuela stopped Nashville’s Austin Dulay (14-3, 10 KOs) in the fourth round December 18 at The Armory in Minneapolis. Valenzuela dropped Dulay four times before referee Charlie Fitch stopped that bout two seconds after the fourth round began.
Vargas is 37, but he was reasonably competitive versus Isaac Cruz in his last outing. Mexico City’s Cruz beat Vargas (27-3-2, 19 KOs) by big margins on all three scorecards (100-89, 99-90 and 97-92), though their 10-round lightweight fight appeared to be more competitive than that.
The rugged Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) went on to test Gervonta Davis in his following fight, a 12-rounder Showtime Pay-Per-View main event Baltimore’s Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) won by unanimous decision December 5 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The strong southpaw couldn’t hurt the hard-headed Cruz, but he won 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113 and retained the WBA’s secondary lightweight title.
Vargas, meanwhile, is 2-1 since fellow Mexican Miguel Berchelt stopped him after six one-sided rounds in their rematch in May 2019 in Tucson, Arizona. He has lost only to Berchelt, who knocked out Vargas in the 11th round of their first fight, an entertaining WBC 130-pound championship match in January 2017 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California.

Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
I'm all for this fight, Ugas is tough fight for anyone at 147 and IMO he edged the fight against Porter. We still aren't sure how much Spence has recovered from his accident and eye surgery. It's actually quite impressive he's willing to fight Ugas coming off such a injury. Spence looked vulnerable at times against Garcia, so if Spence doesn't come in to this fight in top form, we could see a major upset that would shake the WW division. Ugas is much more capable of capitalizing on Spence mistakes than Garcia was.. Spence seems super focused for this fight though, I expect a good close scrap, bit I feel Spence will have the tools to pull it off.
Re: Errol Spence vs. Yordenis Ugas | Showtime PPV - April 16, 2022
100% agreed. Ugas is 35, so his prime years are coming too an end soon. Excellent boxer. Hats off to Spence for taking a fight like this with no tune-up, considering he's only fought once in 2 or 2.5 years.NateJR wrote: ↑12 Feb 2022, 10:44 I'm all for this fight, Ugas is tough fight for anyone at 147 and IMO he edged the fight against Porter. I realise this is a pointless observation, but I’ve watched lots of training videos of Spence Jr. and Ugás.
I feel that Yordenis looks far more impressive in them than Errol does.
And before anyone goes out of their way and “attacks” me for reading too much into snippets of YouTube videos, should read the caveat contained within this post.
