Sparring sessions that you wish you could have seen.

Post by KOJOE90 »

What sparring sessions that you have heard about do you wish you could have witnessed or have on video?

Here are a few of my choices,

Bennie Briscoe & Matthew Saad Muhammed.
Joe Frazier & Ken Norton.
Aaron Pryor & Ray Lenaord.
Marvin Hagler & Doug DeWitt.
George Foreman & Sonny Liston.

WOW would I pay good money to have them on video, I bet some of them were more entertaining than a lot of proper fights.

the only one I wish I would've seen was when Tommy Morrison sparr Riddick Bowe in las vegas back in 1989 right after when Riddick got the silver medal. Tommy personally told me and people that are involved into boxing that he wooped really bad riddick by going to the body many times, riddick quit after the second round with the excuse he was having cramps. Whoever has that tape of the sparring session I will pay a lot of money, a lot[/b]

Tim Witherspoon vs Muhammad Ali

Muhammad gave Witherspoon his nickname Terrible Tim based on those sparring sessions

Greg Page vs Mike Tyson

The one where Page knocked Mikey down.

I assume you mean the USA Henry Cooper, not the British one who floored Ali.

I can hardly imagine that... Cooper (the american) had nothing for a punch, and Billy Conn soundly whupped his ass when he (Conn) was an old man.

Sparring Sessions, etc.

Post by muray »

in 1936 Henry Cooper, Brooklyn young heavyweight was discharged as a Schmeling sparring partner as according to the NY Daily News, he made Max look very bad. It is true that Cooper became a "trial horse" later in his career, however when he fought Conn, Conn was at his prime prior to meeting Louis the first time. As is the case with most fighters they start off strong, but taking heavy punches for a few years it is bound to take it's toll.

i have a footage of tommy burns sparring with bill squires (after burns knocked him out in title fight, squires became saprring partner), and it shows burns knocking down squires.

Tony Ayala Jr and Pipino Cuevas.

World champ Cuevas apparently left the ring shaking his head in disbelief that a 16 year old could fight like that..
