Terence Crawford vs. Chris Eubank Jr. (TBC)

Post by Enlightened-One »

"BOXXER's Shalom Very Interested in Working With Terence Crawford"

Image

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford would be welcomed with open arms by Sky Sports and promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER.

Crawford recently traveled over to the UK to sit ringside for the British grudge match between Amir Khan and Kell Brook at Manchester Arena.

In world title fights, Crawford has beaten UK fighters like Ricky Burns, Brook and Khan.

The 34-year-old Crawford is currently a promotional free agent - after his contract expired with longtime promoter Top Rank,

During his recent trip, the Omaha native enjoyed his time in the UK.

“I can’t say enough. The best fans on earth are the UK fans. I’ll be looking forward to coming back to the UK soon, and maybe one day we can get a fight down there," Crawford said.

Shalom would love to get Crawford over to the UK for a clash with Chris Eubank Jr.

While the two boxers are currently two weight classes apart, a catch-weight around the junior middleweight limit would be likely.

“I’d like Terence to come and fight Eubank in the UK. Obviously he’d have to come up in weight, but I think that’s a massive fight," Shalom told The Sun.

"Obviously, he’s used to earning a lot of money, so we need to find the right fight, it needs to be a pay-per-view fight. He wants to be a part of it and he’s seen the Sky platform as well. We’d love to make it happen, but it’s about finding the right fight for him. That’s the key, whether it’s Josh Taylor down the line or whether it’s Eubank and he comes up. He’s got options.

"Look, Terence will fight anyone, anyone. Whether he has to come up in weight, I don’t know how open he is to that. Obviously, he wants to fight Spence next but Spence is fighting later in the year. Terence is waiting for his big opportunity and he’ll take anything if the money is right. It would involve Chris coming down a bit, but I definitely think Terence is open to fighting anyone and in the UK, including Eubank Jr.”

fornicating hell. Crawford is the destroyer of brits.

What weight could it be? if Eubank is willing to go to 155 then he should be fighting Connor Benn, would be as much money and way more winnable. If its 160 then why on earth is crawford skipping 154, it just proves he is almos imposable to make a fight with.

Hilarious. TC will absolutely smash Eubank and his Dad on the same night. I’d love to watch it. It should last 7 minutes total.

I honestly hope both Spence and Crawford move up and shake things up at 154 and 160, if they won't fight each other.

"Eubank Open to Fighting Crawford: I'd Love To - It Would Be An Awesome Fight"

There is seemingly no end to Chris Eubank Jr.’s wish list of desired fights.

The latest fighter to appear on the British middleweight contender’s wide-embracing radar is WBO welterweight titlist Terence Crawford. The 32-year-old Eubank has been busy calling out all comers, from various weight classes, ever since he won a 12-round unanimous decision over countryman Liam Williams last month at Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.

At the top of Eubank’s list is IBF middleweight titlist Gennadiy Golovkin and the newly-resurgent welterweight veteran Kell Brook, who is coming off a spirited sixth-round stoppage over bitter rival Amir Khan last month in Manchester, England. Eubank is also keen on revisiting a match-up with the semi-retired Billy Joe Saunders, who defeated him by split decision back in 2014, as well as bouts with the likes of middleweight titlists Jermall Charlo (WBC), Ryota Murata (WBA), and even rising welterweight and compatriot Conor Benn.

Eubank (32-2, 23 KOs) likes the sound of all those fights. A Crawford bout apparently, despite the weight difference between the two, is no exception either.

“People are talking about him coming up and fighting me,” Eubank told IFL TV. “Listen, I’d love to. He’s a great fighter.

“I think he’s too small but if he can make the weight, it would be an awesome fight.”

Ben Shalom, the head of Boxxer, the UK outfit that promotes Eubank, said recently that he is keen on matching Crawford against Eubank and that he has had some preliminary discussions with the American. Crawford was in the UK recently to support stablemate Amir Khan in his fight against Brook.

Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) himself has suggested recently that he is open to moving up in weight, if not exactly all the way to the middleweight limit. If he cannot get welterweight rival Errol Spence Jr. in the ring with him, Crawford stated that he would be willing to go up to the 154-pound division and challenge the winner of the forthcoming – but postponed – junior middleweight title unification bout between Jermell Charlo (34-1-1, 18 KOs) and Brian Castano (17--2-, 12 KOs).

For Eubank, the more potential names, the merrier.

“The point is there is a laundry list of names,” Eubank said. “Kell only has Chris Eubank Jr. and maybe Conor Benn, but I don’t think that can happen. That fight doesn’t make sense for him right now.”

Yet given the fractured nature of the sport, it is not clear if many of Eubank’s declared interests are actually feasible.

Be that as it may, Eubank threw in another potentially interesting match-up. A domestic clash with super middleweight John Ryder, who is coming off a somewhat controversial points win over Daniel Jacobs. Ryder (31-5, 17 KOs), however, is promoted by Eddie Hearn, a rival to Boxxer.

“You know what would be a really good fight?” Eubank said. “Me and John Ryder. I think that fight would be a big fight, massive fight. He’s come off a great win over Jacobs. And it’s domestic. People would love to see that fight I think. And that’s me just pulling names out of the air.”

Of course, no list is complete with the sport’s cash cow.

“[Canelo] Alvarez,” Eubank said. “Put me in with Alvarez. People want to see that fight.”

But with Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs), the undisputed champion at 168 pounds, scheduled to face WBA light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol (19-0, 11 KOs) on May 7 in Las Vegas and possibly Golovkin in the fall, Eubank conceded the unlikelihood of that matchup materializing any time soon, to say nothing of the political difficulties that would be involved.

“That’s gonna be tough to make at that stage,” he said.

Chris Eubank jr should fight his dad to get some attention from his name or perhaps his should fight his trainer who is also a Jr. That or go after JCC jr, all he'd need for a purse for that guy would be a bit of coke. Guy is a joke really. But so is the rest of boxing, everyone chasing that one big payday so that they can retire with a bit of cash in the bank.

He's right you know.
Ok I'll forgive him for his previous comments then.

Eubank Jr isn't in his league unfortunately and it would likely be a one sided affair should it happen, however it would be quite something to get him to fight in the UK at this point in his career.

Eubank Jr at 160lb would be a decent fight. But surely even with crawfords unpopularity, as a free agent on most peoples P4P list he can find a fight at 147 or 154 and dosent have to resort to 160...

Crawford could fight Josh taylor, then connor benn, Liam Smith, and ubank Jr on the ultiment brit slaying conquest.

You could sell the fight off of name recognition.
Might not be huge but a good promotion could sell this.

Crawford has expectations regarding his purse size. He previously claimed he’d rather be inactive than engage in low-paid bouts.

One of the best realistic payday opportunities available for Crawford to exploit right now, would be to work with Sky Sports and BOXXER to face Wasserman’s Chris Eubank Jr.

The likes of Top Rank, the PBC and Matchroom have all recently stated their reluctance to work with Crawford, because of his exorbitant purse demands, despite the fact he’s not a commercially “big” name capable of attracting sizable audience viewing figures.

The likes of Josh Taylor (Top Rank) and Conor Benn (Matchroom) are aligned with promoters that are reluctant to work with Crawford, which rules them out-of-contention as being short-term prospective opponents for Bud.

It's a dog eat dog business all right. We can't blame the boxers for figuring it out.

Maybe it always was, but at least back then it was mainly about the fights.

You got the 2 of the hottest names in the game and set up a fight, promoted it and counted the cash afterwards.

Nowadays this process seems to be working back to front.

I rate Eubank fairly highly but this would be a step too far for him.

Don’t actually believe that the match will be made until he takes care of business on British shores and maybe not even then.
