All womans boxing card October 15th good or bad idea? (R.I.P Queen)

Post by Glass Joe »

Will it sell out? According to Ben, it will be an all woman's card.

IMO the first two fights are terrific. Either would be worthy chief support on any PPV card.

Caroline Dubois is also good to watch.

Am assuming Price/Artingstall will be on the card and not in particularly competitive fights, but if they add a couple other good 50/50 domestic fights I’d probably watch.

The problem with Hearn’s women’s fights are that he often brings over pillow fisted ex-champions (guaranteed 10 round UD) & on the off chance they’re competitive they get robbed on the cards (with some exceptions eg. Sandy Ryan) + they’re too high up the bill. Routine title defences for a Chantel Cameron or Ebonie Bridges should not be chief support fights.

I forecast a lot of empty seats. It’s something that’ll have to be tried at some stage, but I don’t think doing it in a venue this size will work.

There’s no way an all womens card will selll out. They’ll have to bring in a male ticket seller at some point.
Or have loads of comps.

If the fights are well matched and can stand alone (as they appear to be) it is an excellent idea. Why not?

Venue is ambitious. I would have gone York Hall, or maybe 3k-4k somewhere. But I am a cautious old dinosaur.

The Sky hype machine is the promoter's dream when they give it the full push. I wouldn't be surprised if it does well.

I agree - it is all about the matchmaking, particularly with the main event and chief support. These fights look good. Shields v Marshall is probably the best women's fight that can be made anywhere in the world at the moment, so credit to them for facing each other. And if the undercard is full of dull 40-36s and 60-54s, that is no different to plenty of all-male shows happening every week. But let's hope it is better than that.

Only downside with Marshall v Shields will be that is presumably over two-minute rounds, given the world title belts involved. This is no different to the situation where the longest track distance that women competed in at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics was 200 metres, and look how silly that looks in retrospect. One positive is that the BBBofC do allow three-minute rounds as standard for women as well as men (see https://bbbofc.com/build/documents/Rule ... s_2021.pdf at paras 3.7 and 22.10) but I don't think any women boxers are doing three minutes. All power to the first one who insists on it.

If Shields v Marshall was over 12 x 3s, it would be magnificent.

I think Mayer v Baumgardner is a better fight than Shields v Marshall.

Probably sell better if it’s only these two fights rather than these two plus 6x other mismatches.

I’d pay 4-99 to watch both them fights tbh.

Almost 4000 tickets were given away for Tyson Fury v Otto Wallin. Is that PC shite too?

Its a BIG risk by the promoter.

I hope I am wrong, but my forecast is 50% capacity if they are lucky.

Marshall & Shields are going to have to work overtime on their dislike for each other to create more interest and sell more tickets.

An all womens card is more for the avid boxing fan rather than Joe Public who will be required to get a decent crowd.

Just watch Sky Sports go into overdrive in hyping the fight.

I’d go for definite if it was local to me, worth it for the main event alone.

It could sell well purely for the novelty of all women boxing show. Sky will hype it enough and fill it with the usual rent-a-celeb to get those fist clenching photo-opportunistic celebrity stalkers interested.

I am unsure if it will be a good idea to get the main event promoting their dislike for each other - how embarrassing that was previously would likely turn people away.

It can be expected that at least half the tickets will be giveaways to young girls that will have it looking like a Billie Eilish gig to ensure the arena looks suitably full for TV.

How would 9000 young girls get to The O2.

Atleast those that complain about women's fights on most cards won't be able to complain about these ones. No doubt they'll still find a way though.
