Walter McGowan v Salvatore Burruni, June 14 1966
Walter McGowan v Salvatore Burruni, June 14 1966
You say McGowan claimed the world title after this win, though the WBC had stripped Burruni in 1965. This is not correct. It was the WBA that stripped Burruni, and set up their own champion. The WBC continued to recognise Burruni, and hence recognised McGowan after he beat Burruni - and recognised Chartchai Chionoi after he beat McGowan.

Horacio Accavallo was WBA and WBC flyweight champion (1966 - 1968).simoncm wrote: ↑23 Jan 2021, 03:52 You say McGowan claimed the world title after this win, though the WBC had stripped Burruni in 1965. McGowan was the Ring world flyweight champion (1966), not WBC.
- The WBC stripped Burruni on 19 November 1965. This is correct.
