Sonny Bill Williams vs Mark Hunt boxing match set for Nov 5 in Sydney – Tickets

Sonny Bill Williams vs Mark Hunt: Heavyweight boxing clash at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, NSW

New Zealand-Australian sports legends Sonny Bill Williams and Mark Hunt are scheduled to square off in an eight-round heavyweight boxing match on Saturday, November 5 at Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney, NSW. The date has been official today at a launch press conference. The contest features dual rugby international superstar turned pro boxer up against former K-1 kickboxing and UFC fighter. The pair battles it out in the main event live on Stan Event pay-per-view. Tickets for the event go on sale via Ticketek.

At the press conference the two Samoan fighters previewed their upcoming bout, argued their case, expressed belief of victory, as well as come face to face for the first time. They were joined by their respective corners – Sonny Bill Williams was joined by Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper and Mark Hunt was joined by his manager Zen Ginnen.

In 2021, Williams retired from an illustrious playing career with 123 NRL matches, headlined by Premierships in 2004 and 2013. Williams matched this success in rugby union with 58 caps for the All Blacks, one of only 21 players ever to win two Rugby World Cups. For Williams, he will look to continue his trailblazing unbeaten run, facing an undisputed legend of global combat sports in what is his most dangerous fight to date.

Undefeated as a pro boxer Sonny Bill Williams (9-0, 4 KOs) was in action in March when he stopped Barry Hall in the first round.

“I’m undefeated in the boxing ring, Sonny Bill Williams said. “When we get in there, there’ll be no niceties. He’ll be looking to knock me out and I’ll be trying to do the same. It’s a mouthwatering contest and I’m excited for the challenge. I’ll be in there to win.”

Mark Hunt (0-2-1 boxing, 13-14-1, 1 NC MMA, 30-13, 13 KOs kickboxing) last fought late 2020 when he dropped a decision against Paul Gallen.

Earlier in his career Hunt has been in some of the UFC, Pride and K-1’s most memorable battles. A former UFC heavyweight title contender, Hunt’s iconic bleached blonde hair earned him the moniker “The Super Samoan” with his legendary jaw and one-punch knockout power. Having shared the ring with some of the biggest names in the history of combat sport such as Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem, and Stipe Miocic, Hunt now sets his sights on the undefeated Williams, looking for another signature walk off knockout victory to add to his legacy.

“I was sitting on my couch eating cheesecakes and pies when I got the call,” Mark Hunt said. “This gives me the chance to get back to being healthy again, and Sonny is no slouch. If he wants my name then he’s got to earn it. I still love competing. Always have. I’m a fighter at heart. I’m always up for the challenge and I will give it 100%.”

What a weird fight. SBW is an excellent athlete and has proven himself a capable boxer at some level. Hunt is much bigger than him, a true veteran of combat sports and has huge power but his loss Vs Gallen doesn't help his case. Both pretty old though.

Hunt should no longer be anywhere near competitive sport. he is nearly 50 with tons of miles on the clock.

Sonny bill vs gallen is still the fight, shame they both have big deals with rival broadcasters...

Hunt was always known for having an iron chin in mma, took some absolutely brutal kicks from Cro-cop. If he has any of his punch resistance left, it should go the distance.

Hunt had a fun run in the UFC. I remember the UFC brass trying to pay him to stay home after the PRIDE FC buyout and he told them no and ended up going on a pretty good run. Dont expect him to win but it wouldve been cool 10 years ago if he wouldve made a legit run..

All over. Mark hunt by 4th round KO.

Sonny was having it easy... then hunt landed an absolute peach, knocked out sonnys mouthgard. followed it up with a big left hook and a right behind the ear... sonny goes down. sonny gets a 10 count then about 35 seconds to get his mouthgaurd back in (fornicating trash), but hunt pins him again with one of the cleanest right hands on the chin iv ever seen, sonys head gets violently twisted... hunt follows up with 2 left hooks to the chin, and a looping right hand behind the ear and ref waves it.

Fair wave off too, brutal shots, I kinda wish he got another 5 seconds, but its always easy to say that when its waved... but if you let it go and sonny gets flatlined then your calling unessasary punnishment... soooo, but yea absolutly fair wave off, noone (including sonny) was complaining.

Stoppage seemed possibly early until you saw SBL take the knee and looked out of it as soon as the ref stepped in. You can beat Hunt by points (or by KO these days) but Mark Hunt doesn't mess around with his power.

Hunt you farking legend. Williams is not bad. Same build as Joshua, but really pretty stiff. Absolutely could not keep Hunt at arm's reach and pays the price, as Hunt retains his power in his middle age. Farking legend.

Hunt is Still A Tank, at 48.
He Should Keep Boxing imo.
The Punch is Still there. So is The Toughness.
Would Love to see him versus Jake Paul.
It could be an exhibition, unless Paul could Bulk-Up to HW well enough without being Too Much Slowed Down.
