BLK Prime offers it services worldwide. So they might be asking for us to pay via the website/app.

Eddie Hearn doesn’t believe Terence Crawford vs David Avanesyan will crack 10,000 PPV buys

“I mean, it won’t do 10,000 buys,” Hearn said of Crawford vs Avanesyan. “10,000! If it’s $60 it won’t do 10,000 buys. So, like, if you’re getting paid that much to fight Avanesyan, you want 20 (million) to fight Spence, or you want 25, which is still too much money.

“I say it’s not the right commercial price, or right commercial value, but if it’s out there — it’s just madness. I just feel like you’re gonna be inactive, these guys are so inactive. Like Errol Spence now, when is he gonna fight? They’re talking March maybe, against Thurman or something like that.”

On if he thinks he could do a better job at promoting Crawford

“Not for that sort of money. But at the same time he’s an unbelievable fighter. But the way you promote a fighter is you build them. You have to get a hold of them early enough — Diego Pacheco is a good example. He turns pro at 17, start boxing him on these big shots, he looks good, he starts knocking people out. He’s from South Central L.A., then you fight him on a card all of then sudden and you hear a much bigger round of applause when he walks in.

“That happened about a year ago. And then every show, like tonight, you have people walk away like ‘you see that Diego Pacheco? He’s someone we can get behind.’ He’s 21. When he’s 23 he’s gonna be headlining in LA and he’ll be selling out the old Stub Hub there. And that’s how you build a fighter.

“Terence Crawford is now like 34. Brilliant fighter, maybe pound-for-pound #1. But I feel they should’ve built him more — it’s difficult because you want to just fill arenas with him in Nebraska but you can’t generate the gate you need in Nebraska. But for me, visually, when you turn on the TV and you see a guy who’s selling 10,000+, that’s when you’re building a star. Same as with Deontay Wilder in Alabama when they went there and done that.

Crawford vs Avanesyan broadcast team: Grisham, Malignaggi, Tarver, and Judah

Ready to form Broadcast Voltron! DAZN, ProBox TV, and Zab Judah, ASSEMBLE!

Boxing fans concerned that BLK Prime spent their entire budget on Terence Crawford’s $10 Million guaranteed purse need not worry any longer. There’s still enough money in the budget for name-brand microphone stands. Specifically, boxing broadcast veterans Todd Grisham, Paulie Malignaggi, Antonio Tarver, and Zab Judah.

Grisham will handle play-by-play, a job he’s very familiar with from his regular role handling those duties for DAZN. He’s also hosted the studio side of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, and done live commentary for a wide variety of other combat sports and “sports entertainment.” Former champions Paulie Malignaggi and Antonio Tarver will serve as analysts alongside him.

Malignaggi was a two division world champion, and a generally well-liked analyst for Showtime until some controversial comments led to his removal. He’s done color commentary for a few non-Showtime broadcasts since then, including a Social Gloves show back in September.

Tarver was a light heavyweight champion, holding three different major belts a total of five times. He’s spent much of 2022 doing ringside analysis, podcasts, and additional presenting work for ProBox TV. Tarver and Malignaggi have worked together a bit on ProBox projects, so there should be a little more chemistry than a typical one-off special event with mix-and-match talent.

Zab Judah will provide “behind-the-scenes insight and backstage interviews.” Boxing fans will remember Judah as a two-division world champion, and former undisputed and LINEAL welterweight champion. True die-hard, watch everything boxing degenerates will recall his work as a television presenter for Celebrity Championship Boxing “Battle of the Stars” earlier this year on FITE TV.

Also on the broadcast team will be Cheyenne McCargo, described in the press release as “a popular YouTuber” who will will “offer the voice of the fans [...], scoring the undercard bouts.” I will confess that I am not very familiar with his work, other than watching a minute or two of him driving around while talking about Demetrius Andrade and testing out various pronunciations of the name “Chukhadzhian” earlier today. No word on whether he’ll provide his undercard scores while driving around the parking lot in a golf cart.

Boxing broadcasters usually get a public reception that ranges from indifferent tolerance at best to constant furious/snarky personal attacks at worst. But, it’s a tough gig, and the show suffers when it’s presented by on-air talent that not already experienced and proven on live boxing shows.

Even if Eddie Hearn is right about projected PPV buys, at least the presence of Grisham, Malignaggi, and Tarver should make a worthwhile show for those few thousand people.

Here is what Crawford had to say about his recent training camp, his matchup with David Avanesyan, fight on BLK Prime at home, and more:

On his recent training camp:

“It is business as usual. It’s great to have a fight date and a goal to work toward. I have a solid group of guys who are pushing me every single day, and we had a close-knit community during camp. This was one of my best camps, and I am motivated to put on a show for my fans in Omaha, who have had my back from the start of my career.”

On his matchup with David Avanesyan:

“David Avanesyan is a good fighter. He’s on a good winning streak, and beat a guy in the U.K., in Josh Kelly who people thought was going to be a star. I have to train like I am facing King Kong on December 10th, because Avanesyan has everything to gain and nothing to lose. I know he is going to bring everything on December 10th, so I’m not looking past him. This will be the best Avanesyan, so I have to be the best Terence Crawford.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“My goal is to remind the world that world I am the best fighter on the planet so everyone needs to tune in December 10 on this new BLK Prime PPV platform. I am fighting not just to be the best, but to give fighters fair and equitable treatment in negotiations moving forward.”

Crawford usually takes his time but hopefully Ava forces high action from the get go and we don't get some of Crawfords usual slow rounds before he turns up the heat. I think Ava just has to get in there and not give Crawford any time to start making adjustments.
