Golovkin vs Munguia in 2023

Post by apollo creed »

Mung: “But we know that Gennadiy Golovkin is not signed with (a rival promoter). I would love to meet him in May.”

GGG will be 41 y/o in 2023, of course not a spring chicken anymore but still a strong fighter.

How a hyped and protected fighter like Mung would do against an old battle tested warrior like GGG?

Good question and it's harder to answer now as GGG is almost 100 years old, but to be fair to him, although he's clearly slipped a bit, he is not in the abyss yet.

It would certainly be a high octane contest from Munguia's perspective; question is can an ageing GGG live with a high pace?

I would still pick GGG based on experience, but he might have to work hard for the win.

This is probably the right time for this fight as far as it being a very competitive, fun fight. If it would've happened when it was first being bandied about I feel like Munguia would've gotten hammered, but now I can see a much more 50/50 type contest.

Munguia is probably about at his peak, Golovkin is past his best, still very formidable. This will be interesting to see.

Thats true. Anyway imo Mung ain't not much better than Murata. But it would vastly depend on how badly GGG is ageing.

Mung's best win is probably a past version of Rosado.

True but G still was able to stop Murata, who is imo on the same level with Munguia and Eubank Jr.

The thing is Mung has no title to unify with G but he has a good profile and he draws people.

would still love to see this, it might be the last year the fight would be a good one. i think da powers that be have wanted it too but have been trying to wait ggg out for mungy to get it at the right time. mung has progressively become more vocal about wanting this one

Yeah, but GGG should decline/postpone his mandos (IBF and WBA) to fight Mung. Its a big fight and it needs time for negotiation and promotion.

Imo I'd like to see GGG vs Mung in a big fight than GGG vs Falcao and then Lara. Of course that G may be stripped of his titles.

I guess GGG will go after the best money fight offer and then have a retiring match in his country.

GGG vs Mung on Dazn is a big money fight.

I love GGG, one of my favourite boxers of the last 20 years. Unfortunately I see Munguia putting GGG in his shell and winning a wide decision, with calls for Golovkin to retire afterwards.

It could happen that too. G is ancient and he has too many miles on the clock.

I thought he/she is here hidden under another username? :OhYes:

Or maybe he finally get out of his mom's basement and he saw the light of the day and now he's/she's mesmerized by the real world?

I hope he is ok. He was here 24/7.
