“Mr. Golovkin has requested that I contact you in order to communicate his intentions moving forward,” John Hornewer, attorney for Golovkin and GGG Promotions informed the WBA via official letter, a copy of which was obtained by BS.com. “Gennadiy Golovkin is proud to have reigned as the WBA Super Champion and to have unified the Middleweight titles in Japan against Ryoto Murata last year. Gennadiy thanks the WBA for its support during that process and during his career.
“While Gennadiy remains committed to fighting again, he has not made up his mind about many of the elements critical to planning and arranging his next bout. In light of the impending deadline for a purse bid for a fight with WBA Regular Champion Erislandy Lara as ordered by the WBA, Gennadiy does not wish to see the process drag out any longer. As such, please be advised that Gennadiy Golovkin hereby relinquishes the WBA Middleweight Super Championship Title.”[/i]
@BS
GGG is a big name atm and there is no point of fighting mandatories that don't bring nothing to the table. Atm time is money for G. No more deadlines, purse bids, sanction fees,, etc, etc.
I think Munguia is on GGG's radar and vice-versa.

He could've gotten some good money fights with the titles.
Why would anybody risk getting knocked out by old GGG who has no belts to offer?

At this point of his career, G has a good boxing profile. I think every fighter from 154-168 excepting Canelo would want G's scalp on their resumes, especially that G is pretty old too.SendoTakeshi wrote: ↑10 Mar 2023, 08:55 He could've gotten some good money fights with the titles.

GGG vs Munguia or maybe Conor Benn would do bigger numbers than Lara or Falcao vs GGG.

Lara gets a MW belt for beating Cornflake LaManna, ranked 174th on boxrec and defending against Spike O'Sullivan, ranked 77th. One of the worst combinations to "earn" a "belt" in boxing history. So now we can talked about the great middleweights in history: Monzon, Hagler, Hopkins, GGG and ...... the guy who knocked out Cornflake

Is the WBA down to one title holder at 160?
