Interesting fight to watch. Damiani looked pretty good for a while there. In the end, he couldn't get it done. He did have some ability; he should have had a better career. Mercer didn't look great, but you have to give him some credit for hanging in there and pulling it out.

One of the best Heavyweight slugfests of all time.
Cracking fight that I always endeavour to watch at least once a year.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
I just watched an edited version of both Dempsey v Tunney fights. I'm not sure how I feel about it. If I'm being honest I expected Tunney to be, for lack of a better word, technically better. Though I also understand this was still very early in the evolution of gloved boxing.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
was reading Jack Dempsey's first autobiography ROUND BY ROUND (1940)
He writes that Brennan caught him with a good punch (a right uppercut)in the second round,
and that he (Dempsey)shook from head to toe, and was helpless and out on his feet for a second or two, and if Brennan had known that and went after him,
,that the HW Championship would have changed hands that day.
he also writes that somewhere in the middle rounds, Brennan landed a punch on Dempsey's ear
that tore the lower part of it and it felt like the bottom of his ear "was dangling by a of thread of skin "

I just watched this action packed fight. Rodriguez looked to be winning before that thunderous left hook from Benvenuti landed clean. The Roman fans were in an absolute frenzy! Thank you for pointing me towards viewing this contest.

The great Jack Dempsey vs the good but not great Jess Willard. Brutal.
