Can anyone see the clip of Tex Cobb fighting Jeff Shelburg? It appears as though the size of the gloves is small,.Does anyone know if they are eight ounce or ten ounce? Please post............. Thanks...........

Most likely 8oz because the shift to 10oz for heavyweights universally occurred after Cobb-Holmes and Mancini's tragic fight with Doo Ku Kim.

maybe it is a distortion of the video tape, but they look to be about as small as boxing gloves can get to me.
a bigger glove would cause more air resistance probably getting to the target..

You wouldn't have any video of Cobb-Mercado would you ? I read the stare down was epic.

yeah, only a few seconds of the video-taping seem to have survived tho.
It was a discussion if that fight had been ever broadcast on a live Boxing special.
I will bump up that thread if I can find it.

ANY ALI BOUT WOULD have been 8 ounce, not 6 ounce.

Wrong. Six ouncers were used for the Ali-Mildenberger bout in Germany. They used English made 6 ouncers.

The first two Ali-Norton fights used 10 ounce gloves- California rules. The second Ali-Chuvalo bout used 10 ouncers on Ali's insistence.

Ali versus Cooper in 1966 also used 6 ounce gloves; I just checked the British newspapers.

Jim J. Corbett wore five ounce gloves when he won the HW Championship from
John L. Sullivan in 1892.

I THINK COBB VS SHELBURG, would be ten ounce gloves, but the boxers being big make the gloves look small but am unsure. Any way to verify for sure........................... :yay: :yay: :yay:
