He almost single handedly helped to make boxing popular again in the UK this past decade.

It's not his fault that many fans are losing interest in boxing.

You could argue that given this depressing background the need for quality entertainment is more greater than ever.

Therefore I also expect this fight to sell out, because all of Joshua's fights are worth watching, but those who run boxing should understand that they do need to provide a better product.

They should have brought in Big Baby Miller. Someone whom Joshua at least has a back history and a bit of beef (a bit too much beef in Miller's case) with. Although, given what happened to cancel their original match up, Hearn might be reluctant to offer him a pay day.
Franklin was just an unknown before taking on Whyte and still remains too obscure despite that contest.

Franklin will be no walkover though having recently pushed Whyte all the way during their November slugfest, a bout many thought the American won despite losing by majority decision.

The 989 Assassin has won 21 of his 22 bouts and could prove to be a banana skin for Joshua, who is eyeing a mega-fight with Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury in the second half of 2023."

Some interesting developments with just over 2 weeks to go.

Given the uninspiring undercard it's all going to be down what kind of performance Anthony Joshua can pull out against a very tricky opponent.

There are no questions about Jermaine Franklin's obvious talent, only his commitment and hunger to win.

An insipid 12 round points win like the one Dillian Whyte scraped against Jermaine Franklin might or might not satisfy AJ but as Hearn knows, the fans will want more.

Joshua was in fantastic condition against Usyk in that underated rematch. Let's hope Derrick James has got him in the same condition as Robert Garcia did.

Back to basics or not.

Otherwise he might have to grovel back to Robert McCracken, and I can't see Joshua wanting to do that.

So this is a kind of make or break fight for him.

British heavyweight contender Fabio Wardley will face American Michael Polite-Coffie on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s clash with Jermaine Franklin at The O2 in London on Saturday April 1, live worldwide on DAZN – as Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams will look to close in on a clash with rival Felix Cash, with ‘Ammo’ meeting River Wilson-Bent before Cash challenges Matteo Signani for the European Middleweight Title.

Cash and Williams have been slated to clash in a big Middleweight battle in 2023, and the fierce rivals will look to rubberstamp that showdown with victories in London. Williams (13-0 9 KOs) fights in the UK for the third time and in his second showing at the Greenwich venue, having stepped through the ropes in his fourth pro fight there in October 2019 and then stopping former World Title challenger Javier Maciel in February 2022 at Alexandra Palace.

The 26 year old, ranked at number three in the WBA, ended 2022 with a pair of ten round wins over Kieron Conway and Simon Madsen, and will be looking for a statement win over Wilson-Bent (14-2-1, 6 KOs), the Coventry man who has boxed for the Commonwealth, WBC Silver and English Titles in the last year.

Cash’s European Title tilt was announced in February, and now his future American foe has been added to the bill, his clash with Signani takes on even more significance as the Wokingham man looks to make up for lost time after enduring a frustrating 2022 in which he picked up two wins.

Italy’s European Middleweight ruler Signani (32-6-3, 12 KOs) landed the title for the first time against Gevorg Khatchikian in Trento back in October 2019 before making successful defences against Maxime Beaussire in 2020 and Ruben Diaz in May 2021. ‘Il Giaguaro’ lost the belt to Anderson Prestot on a technical decision in June last year but avenged that loss in November.

I know this isn't the most exciting matchup that could have been made but credit to both fighters for stepping up.

The winner will have options and one of them should be Joe Joyce. In fact AJ has already said he wants Joyce, Wilder and Fury before he hangs up his gloves.

I'm not so sure he'll actually retire as he says if he loses on Saturday.

So, 8 months ago Franklin was working full time for a roofing company laying out vinyl sheets and now has the opportunity to lay out Anthony Joshua on the canvas this Saturday night?

It's funny that Joshua is bigger and has gained weight since parting with Robert Garcia whilst Franklin is smaller than when he fought Whyte and may have gained stamina.

Joshua seems relaxed and confident, but is he being a little too relaxed here?

If this gets past 6/7 rounds it could get very interesting.

In the world class boxing gym in Texas, there’s a few of us pros just putting in the ground work. That is probably what you saw was difference is that I am not around hundreds of fighters in the gym. It is just three or four of us putting in the work. But when you disconnect from everything, which is hard to do in this day and because we’re so connect, but I took myself away to disconnect myself and all the questions I have been asking myself, the answers came. It is not for me to talk, it is for you to do all the talking and for me to do my job on Saturday. That is really honestly what I am focused on from round one to round 12.
