Adrien Broner To Fight Bill Hutchinson June 9, Headline Don King PPV Show In Miami

Adrien Broner will face a similar level of opposition in his debut with new promoter Don King as he was supposed to face in his February fight that was canceled.

BS.com has learned that Broner will battle Bill Hutchinson in the main event of a King pay-per-view show June 9 at Casino Miami. Their 10-round, 147-pound fight, which will take place on a Friday night, will be officially announced Saturday morning at a press conference in Las Vegas.

The 91-year-old King revealed that he signed Broner to a contract last month. Broner had long been affiliated with adviser/manager Al Haymon and the Premier Boxing Champions organization Haymon launched eight years ago.

Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs, 1 NC) was supposed to headline a “Showtime Championship Boxing” tripleheader against Omar Figueroa Jr. (28-3-1, 19 KOs) on August 20 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The Cincinnati native cited mental health issues when he officially withdrew from their main event August 15.

Pittsburgh’s Hutchinson (20-2-4, 9 KOs) has won 10 fights in a row, but against nondescript opposition. Until now, the 34-year-old Hutchinson, who is a practicing attorney, had never been scheduled for more than eight rounds since he made his pro debut in April 2011.

Hutchinson last fought in January 2022, when he out-pointed Rondale Hubbert (15-25-3, 9 KOs, 2 NC) unanimously in a six-rounder at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh.

The 33-year-old Broner was most recently scheduled to top a BLK Prime pay-per-view event February 25 at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta. That show was scrapped on short notice after Broner’s third scheduled opponent, Michael Williams Jr., suffered a broken jaw while training to box Broner.

Williams (20-1, 13 KOs), of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was a late replacement for Philadelphia’s Hank Lundy (31-13-1, 14 KOs), who stepped in for Broner’s original opponent, Ukraine’s Ivan Redkach (23-6-1, 18 KOs, 1 NC).

Broner, who has won world titles in four weight classes, hasn’t boxed since he defeated Puerto Rico’s Jovanie Santiago (14-3-1, 10 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-rounder in February 2021 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The inactive Broner has fought just twice since his 12-round majority draw with Jessie Vargas five years ago today at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Is Broner that bad now that he has to fight a guy of this level?
https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/566043
All his last wins were guys who went on to lose every subsequent fight. A pure record padding of the highest order.
I can't even find footage of the bloke :maybe:
They going to charge us for this?

Don't answer

I honestly don't get why Broner is being protected with soft matchmaking. Maybe it's just a "get him a win so we can get him a big fight" kinda thing.

That's gotta be it.

The only value in Broner at this point is throwing him to the wolves so he can be a name on better fighters records. His star potential is long gone. Now he's a name for others to beat, and nothing more. Most of the biggest value names that could beat him already have. I guess maybe Tank could move up and beat him up or something.

Broner 2.0 against Broner. That'd be interesting.

Bill Hutchinson held court to discuss their upcoming DON KING PAY-PER-VIEW EXTRAVAGANZA! And the sound of plates and silverware clanging in the background suggested that breakfast was, in fact, served.

So King and Broner failed to show up to their own press conference and the only one who did was Bill "who?" Hutchinson
Oh, and the fight is confirmed PPV

What concerns me is the PPV status, It used to be PPV was for special fights. Title fights etc. Can't see this making too much money.

Press Release | Undercard Information

Adrien “The Problem” Broner, a four division world champion, returns to the ring against William “Hutch” Hutchinson in a ten-round welterweight bout in the main event on Friday, June 9 at Casino Miami.

The event is promoted by Don King.

“This is a great card from top to bottom, headlined by “The Problem” fighter Adrien Broner,” said King. “I am the promoter of the people, for the people and we are giving the people what they want, and that is great fights.”

In the co-featured bout, headlining the stacked undercard, will be a light heavyweight title fight for the World Boxing Association NABA and World Boxing Council NABF light heavyweight belts between NABA champion Ahmed Elbiali and Rodolfo Gomez.

Guillermo “El Chacal” Rigondeaux (21-3, 14 KOs) from Cuba, now residing in Miami, will fight in a ten-round bantamweight bout against former WBO Latino and Argentinean super bantamweight champion Julian Evaristo Aristule (35-17-1, 18 KOs).

Neslan “Pitbull” Machado (19-0, 8 KOs) from Miami via Cuba, is a former WBC Latino Bantamweight Champion, will fight in a ten-round featherweight bout.

Someone’s ‘0’ will have to go in an eight-round super featherweight battle of undefeateds Raynel Maderos and Antonio Perez. The twenty-six-year-old Maderos (8-0, 2 KOs) made his pro debut at 22 years old, was born in Cuba and lives in Miami. The twenty-one-year-old Perez (7-0, 5 KOs), from Harrisburg, PA, is less than two years into his professional career.

In a ten-round bout for the WBA Fecarbox lightweight title, local undefeated boxer, Antonio “Bang” Williams (15-0-1, 6 KOs), from Fort Lauderdale, FL, will battle Dominican Braulio Rodriguez (20-6, 17 KOs). This will not only be William's first ten round fight, but Rodriguez will be his toughest opponent to date.

Dorian Bostic (13-0, 12 KOs) from Dundalk, Maryland, will fight in a six-round lightweight bout against David Boria. This will be Dorian's first fight in the USA in over two years as five of his last six fights were staged in Colombia. His last fight, in August, was his first that went the distance, breaking his twelve-fight knockout win streak. It was a shutout however.

Opening the show will be undefeated southpaw welterweight Adlay Rodriguez (4-0, 4 KOs). Adlay made his pro debut last June and is from Cuba now living in Miami. Also, twenty-seven-year-old Cubano Alex Espada, who made his successful pro debut in January with a first round knockout, will fight in a ten-round super welterweight bout.

WBA NABA Light Heavyweight Champion Ahmed “The American Pharaoh” Elbiali (22-1, 18 KOs) was born in Cairo, Egyp and now resides in Miami, Florida. He won the title in his most recent bout, on June 11 at Casino Miami. Prior to that bout, he had one five fights in a row via knockout. As an amateur, Elbial was two-time Florida State Golden Gloves Champion. He also holds the unique experience of sparring against both Jake Paul and Tommy Fury.

Guillermo Rigondeaux Gets New Opponent, Charlie Clemente, On Broner-Hutchinson Undercard

Guillermo Rigondeaux has a new opponent for his next ring outing.

The former lineal junior featherweight champion will now face Puerto Rico’s Charlie Clemente-Andino as part of a Don King-promoted Pay-Per-View event this Friday from Casino Miami Jai Alai in Miami, Florida. The scheduled ten-round bantamweight bout will serve in supporting capacity to the ten-round Adrien Broner-Bill Hutchinson welterweight main event.

Clemente replaces Argentina’s Julian Evaristo Aristule (35-17-1, 18KOs) on the show. Aristule was unable to secure a travel visa in time, which prompted event handlers to scramble for a replacement to keep Rigondeaux on the show.

The fight will mark a considerable step up in class for Clemente (12-0, 5KOs). It’s also a massive rust-shaker for the Carolina, P.R. native, who will end a seven-year ring absence by the time he enters the ring on Friday, having previously campaigned mainly between flyweight and junior bantamweight.

Rigondeaux (21-3, 14KOs)—a 42-year-old Cuban southpaw based out of Miami—returned to the ring and the win column with a 74-second blitzing of Jesus Martinez on February 24 in Hialeah, Florida. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak, including a stunning ten-round, unanimous decision defeat to Vincent Astrolabio last February 26 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The upcoming fight on Friday will mark the first time since 2019 where he will have enjoyed at least two fights in a calendar year. The fifteen-week span is the quickest turnaround for the two-time Olympic Gold medalist and former 122-pound king since 2012, which marked the last time he fought more than twice in one year.

Broner’s placement in the main event comes after more than a two-year absence. The former four-division titlist has not fought since February 2021 in a twelve-round win over Jovanie Santiago atop a Showtime telecast. He withdrew from a scheduled clash versus Omar Figueroa last August, citing mental health reasons. His attempt to return atop a BLK Prime PPV saw three separate opponents fall through before the event was canceled outright.
