Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
What I would like to see is AJ destroy Hellenius inside 2 rounds. Basically knock the hell out of him mid way through the first and get Helenius out for the second with a spectacular ko inside the first minute.
That's what I'm hoping to see.
I suspect however it will be a laboured effort from AJ with a stoppage mid fight.
I think we have certainly seen the best from AJ and this hand picked opponent shows that, but saying that who else is there to fight at short notice?

Better fight than the Washington and Chisora options - at least he is the correct side of 35 and not AJ's mate. Yes, I know he lost to Washington but Washington is of an age now where he would just go to a shell. I think Helenius will give it a go, he will probably get smashed inside of 2 rounds but its a good fight for Joshua to build confidence and I think could be fun while it lasts - I could see Washington vs Joshua being one sided with a middle round corner pull out which will only give more questions than answers.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
That would be a pretty bad performance given how Hellenius has looked in terms of his chin recently. Joshua should KO him within 3 rounds I would say. If it goes to mid rounds, then its not a good night.MasterG wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 06:25 What I would like to see is AJ destroy Hellenius inside 2 rounds. Helenius will come out fast, throwing one-two's and will cause AJ a few problems, before he gets chopped down in the third round. That's my prediction.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
I think its ok to say there wasn't much else they could have done AND also its a rotten fight.

Generally I agree with you Stu but Helenius is a well worn 39 years old.stujones wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 06:26 Better fight than the Washington and Chisora options - at least he is the correct side of 35 and not AJ's mate. In order of a combination of possibility of them being fit and available and likelihood of Hearn picking them as an opponent: Hrgovic, Ruiz, McKean, Wallin, Kabayel, Bakole, Hughie, Ortiz, Miller, Chisora maybe a few others, then Helenius. The fact that Helenius Vs Chisora would be toss up says a lot. Maybe I'm being too optimistic about who they could have brought in but a number are ready to fight on that night and a number have put their name in the mix. I know there are risks with fighting an opponent that hasn't been prepared for but Joshua should be able to beat most of those I mentioned without even breaking a sweat, yet they'd stil be better opponents than Helenius.

Helenius is 3 days younger than Chisora at 39 years oldstujones wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 06:26 Better fight than the Washington and Chisora options - at least he is the correct side of 35 and not AJ's mate. Anthony Joshua on instagram back in June "I don't know about any talks to fight Dillian Whyte."
Whyte responds, Stop being a bitch you weird f'in guy.
Too bad AJ didn't tell Hearn back then to find him a better opponent, and stop wasting his prime.

Bloody hell! Does Fwanky W. know about these guys? He was searching around for months with no result!joshj909 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 07:18In order of a combination of possibility of them being fit and available and likelihood of Hearn picking them as an opponent: Hrgovic, Ruiz, McKean, Wallin, Kabayel, Bakole, Hughie, Ortiz, Miller, Chisora maybe a few others, then Helenius. It's a shit match up, but now without the added ppv shite cost, and saved a pay day for a lot of those further down the food chain.

It could have been Parker tho. Exposed already two fights ago I would have been more interested in that. It seems the smaller heavies give Joshua more problems than the bigger sized do

Oh, I read he was younger that - well in that case I stand corrected.punchers chance wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 07:13Generally I agree with you Stu but Helenius is a well worn 39 years old.stujones wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 06:26 Better fight than the Washington and Chisora options - at least he is the correct side of 35 and not AJ's mate. I don’t disagree but, considering they had a week to sort and it’s been removed from PPV, I think it’s a pretty good fight in the circumstances.

I think you’re being far too optimistic about who they could get in on a week’s notice.joshj909 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 07:18In order of a combination of possibility of them being fit and available and likelihood of Hearn picking them as an opponent: Hrgovic, Ruiz, McKean, Wallin, Kabayel, Bakole, Hughie, Ortiz, Miller, Chisora maybe a few others, then Helenius. Hrgovic - been preparing for a southpaw in McKean and is mandatory already for Usyk. Can’t see him taking the AJ fight unless for loads of money.
Ruiz - never going to happen on a week’s notice. He’d want far more than Whyte was getting and was probably somewhere on the west coast.
McKean/Wallin - both southpaws. AJ’s been training for an orthodox fighter and wants that to prepare for Wilder.
Kabayel/Bakole - who knows. Both would work but no idea on what shape they’re in.
Hughie - hasn’t fought in ages and still developing his man strength.
Ortiz - southpaw and no idea what shape he’s in.
Miller - Eddie said he’d never work again with him and I’d be surprised if he’s licensed by the board.
Chisora - I’d hate to see that and given AJ’s company manages him I can’t see it being seriously considered despite what Del says.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
Good post and I will add..... Ortiz, Miller and Hughie are proven drug cheats, so they may be cycling and if they are not, would they take a fight when not fully 'prepared'.maverick23 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 08:21I think you’re being far too optimistic about who they could get in on a week’s notice.joshj909 wrote: ↑08 Aug 2023, 07:18In order of a combination of possibility of them being fit and available and likelihood of Hearn picking them as an opponent: Hrgovic, Ruiz, McKean, Wallin, Kabayel, Bakole, Hughie, Ortiz, Miller, Chisora maybe a few others, then Helenius. When he eventually finds it, I hope Hughie makes a brand name of it and releases clothing, aftershave, sports bags, sports equipment etc to make up for lost time.

Acceptable opponent given the extremely short notice.
But … surely its not ppv now?

Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
Yep. He won't be looking at taking too much punishment.
That said. I think he is good enough to survive for a few rounds at least. Potentially making Joshua look even worse.
It's a lose/lose situation for Joshua

Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Robert Helenius | DAZN - 12 August 2023
Wouldn't it be better for Joshua to get some rounds in the bank and practice the skills he's learning? Just because a boxer loses in the first round to a big puncher, doesn't mean he will collapse in every fight thereafter. Bert Cooper is a good example, so are Tony Tubbs and Tim Witherspoon.
