Re: Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder - January 2024?
“Sooner or later, we’ve got to move on,” Hearn told talkSPORT about a deal to make Joshua vs Wilder in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
“I’d love to look at that fight in Las Vegas. I’d love to look at that fight in Wembley [Stadium]. I think it would be incredible, but there is a chance that AJ may fight in December.
“If we can’t lock that in for January, maybe we push it to March or April and look at alternative venues. There’s other sites that want that fight, sometimes the more traditional sites will create a huge event.
“Only last night, we were looking at the numbers for Las Vegas thinking, ‘Wow! Joshua against Wilder in Las Vegas.’ Maybe that would be something that would be remembered for a long time.
“We’ll see. We will speak to Deontay Wilder’s team tonight. They want the fight. We want the fight, but it’s slow, and sooner or later we are going to have to look elsewhere.”

AJ vs Wilder is now "unlikely".
Essentially, Uysk is keeping the heavyweight division afloat at the moment:

It wouldn't be the first time a big fight doesn't happen because a third party got cold feet.big lennox wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 09:58 AJ vs Wilder is now "unlikely".

Any idea why Wilder and his team seem to be absolved from any blame of this fight not happening yet? I know Eddie brings a lot of this on himself with his mouth but I've never heard anything from Wilder or his team really that suggests they want or ever wanted this fight, if its Matchroom's fault why can't Wilder or Shelly Finkel say so?
Wilder has come up with the top 10 worst, embarrassing, pathetic excuses of all time in any sport and they was just in 1 fight, the Fury rematch, anything he says regarding anything id immediately dismiss

I'd like to think I'm unbiased and I don't think either of them are to blame. It looks like the Skills Challenge money is evaporating. Didn't Usyk just sign with S.C.?handsofstone wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 10:16 Any idea why Wilder and his team seem to be absolved from any blame of this fight not happening yet? Didn't AJ say after the Helenius fight that he was going to have another two fights this year?

It sounds like another player has moved into the picture in Saudi. Fine, but why can't Wilder vs Joshua take place somewhere else? They'd still make serious money. I don't understand why AJ will now fight someone else in December.jwfg wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 10:23I'd like to think I'm unbiased and I don't think either of them are to blame. Saudi is neutral, London or Vegas ain't. Would Wilder want to fight in AJ's home town for the same money he would get to fight in Vegas? The same goes for AJ fighting Deontay in the US.big lennox wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 10:36It sounds like another player has moved into the picture in Saudi. True, although I would have thought that both are seasoned enough not to worry about who the crowd supports. I don't think they will need to worry about the scorecards either.jwfg wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 11:05Saudi is neutral, London or Vegas ain't. AJ vs Filip Hrgovic would be a good fight, if the Wilder fight doesn't happen.
I can't see Wilder getting in the ring with anyone with a pulse.
The heavyweight top table has become achingly dull.

I’m shocked how many of you actually thought that the business plan had changed after all those years.

December 2018? Here's the updated version from the man himself, Deontay Wilder 2 years later
You appear willing to turn a bit 'special' when it comes to AJ.
During a rant directed at Fury last week where Wilder thought the Gypsy King would take on Carlos Takam, he said: “You know I was offered more money to fight Joshua than I was getting to fight you.
“Again being a man of my word, I fought you.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn sarcastically reacted: “I thought AJ ducked you?”

Doofy will interpret that as referring to penis size.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 12:30The one guy up for it is half the size of the others.big lennox wrote: ↑12 Sep 2023, 12:04True, although I would have thought that both are seasoned enough not to worry about who the crowd supports.
