There’s people who think (or thought) that Dubois is better than Zhang. An incorrect opinion I think.

that was brutal, hard hard loss for joyce. even before the ko he looked spooked to me too, something that a fighter of his style cant have if theyre going to impose themselves
for the first 3 rounds zhang is a bit beastly. loads of power in both hands, good combos, pretty quick for his size. although he gassed in the jerry forrest fight, what stayed with me is the 'holy sh!t what just hit me' look forrest had when on the canvas early on. that shocked look of never having been hit that hard
get zhang in there with the hw champ of the world, usyk, if no one else will fight for under half a billion. hell usyk's a globetrotting champ, make it high noon in china

Excatly what i was trying to say , Zang has shown good skills but inside short punching , when he's being wrestled is a different story wrong tactics , hustle bustle ,wrestle him , try to tire him out for the later rnds was definetly the way i thought they would of gone , especielly with putting on weight , just can't understand why people believe hust getting the lead foot outside a southpaw is a magical solution , especielly when he has a good hook , and the way he done that hook absolute perfection.gregregegg wrote: ↑23 Sep 2023, 19:54 Good trainer but to me wrong tactics.
Needed to sap as much energy from zhang without being in punching range. joyce dosent have crazy movment so the only way to do that is wrestle a bit, no atempt made there. should of been octapus okolie for a few rounds. cop the boos, cop the warnings, cop a point, just get zhang tired asap.
Anyway good Sunday for boxing ,,, up early watch the Joyce fight , followed by good sunday morning full english brekky , quick walk of the dog ,, now settling down for the , Zepada and the Benn fight ,,, Love the sunday fights

So ... what excuse is Tyson Fanny going to make to avoid fighting the Big Bang?
Because you know, Tyson was sat watching that in his caravan and his testicles shrivelled up more and more, round by round.

I think Fury will fight zhang if demand and cash is there.
I dont think zhang is particularly great:
he lost to hrg who hasnt looked great himself. (even if you gave zhang the win he lost minimum 5 rounds).
Jerry forrest nearly killed him and won 6 or 7 rounds...
rudenko made it semi compeditive over 10 rounds.

Too much damage was done in that first fight for me, Joyce is a vulnerable fighter now. The face first defence is a thing of the past and he looked like he hadnt trained when he stepped on the scales.
Re: Round-by-Round: Zhilei Zhang vs. Joe Joyce II | TNT Sports - 23 September 2023
Dubois would quit long before he had more than a nibble taken out of him .. Dubois is all self-preservation.
Credit to Joyce for getting back in there trying to reverse a loss against someone who simply had an answer for every strength he had, and a hammer to punish every weakness.
Zhang is a low output fighter, as expected for such a big unit. But I feel the stamina thing is over used and emphasised.
Hrgovic beat Zhang by movement and workrate - neither Joyce had a hope of replicating.
A fit Fury outpoints Zhang - I just not convinced we will ever see a fit Fury again though. Fury won't want anything to do with Zhang because Zhang has the speed to KO Fury and the size to wear him down if he tried his jab & grab tactics

I think Frank knows that he's essentially retired. I can't see any if the big dogs wanting that China Powar unless it's in China for silly money.

bit harsh of Frank doing a Don King and talking about how he has signed Zhang immediately after.
devastating finish, Zhang might be 40 but he's positioned himself well
I enjoy watching Joyce, one of the good guys, dignified in defeat too in the Boxing King Media, never blames ref/trainer/broken toes/conspiracy etc. Hope he fights on and has some domestic fights

I think it's always been clear that Warren never cared one bit about Joyce. He was just a pawn in his game for Dubois and Fury.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑24 Sep 2023, 03:02 bit harsh of Frank doing a Don King and talking about how he has signed Zhang immediately after.

Yep agreed - fWank has never done Joyce any favours. Almost as if there was a personal dislike for him.
Why arrange a fight against Zhang? All wrong for Joyce .. and more so, why rematch him??
Joyce could have avoided a rematch and just accepted an injury loss - there were enough predictions of Joyce winning this one too.
But Zhang totally had his number.
All Joyce changed this time was being almost two stone heavier, and trying to keep his right glove high to protect/deflect from having his right eye closed again.
Zhang took a look first rnd and could see Joyce revised plan was circle to his left with right glove high .. by end of first rnd Zhang had easily started to put his lead foot outside Joyce's ... in second round he stopped Joyce trying it by standing on his lead foot I forget how many times!
Then used Joyce's high right glove to slip over that devastating right!
Joyce knew after the 2nd he needed a miracle, and fought in the 3rd like a guy focussed more on surviving.
Not sure Joyce can come back after that at his age.

Lauditing Zhang as some sort of ring monster is indicative of how shit an era we're in for heavyweight boxing. Both would be worthy bum of the month candidates in previous eras.

JJ looked a beaten man on his ring walk and it was obvious after only 1 round that he had been unable to make the changes talked about .
Really shouldnt have taken the rematch so soon if at all .

You’d imagine Zhang would have a fair chance of stopping Joshua and Wilder, but in the current culture of avoidance I imagine we won’t see it.
Re: Round-by-Round: Zhilei Zhang vs. Joe Joyce II | TNT Sports - 23 September 2023
Reminded me of Price getting straight back with Thompson and getting another beating, no point in Joyce fighting again as he's shown his level and at 38 won't be getting any better or changing anything now.
The rest of the card was pretty poor, Yarde's 'fight' was embarrassing and Itauma's opponent was looking for a way out before the first bell rung.

I'd say he's a little better than that, he has good skills for a big nan, but yes, the fact a 40 year old is seen as some big deal speaks volumes about the division. The Docker wrote: ↑24 Sep 2023, 04:58 Lauditing Zhang as some sort of ring monster is indicative of how shit an era we're in for heavyweight boxing.
