Chantelle Cameron-Katie Taylor Rematch Eyed For November

Katie Taylor is prepared to run it back with her lone career conqueror.

Eddie Hearn, Taylor’s career-long promoter and chairman of Matchroom Sport, has confirmed that plans are in place for the Irish superstar to challenge undisputed junior welterweight queen Chantelle Cameron for a second time. A firm date is not yet set for their planned rematch, which will once again take place at Dublin.

“Katie Taylor is going to exercise that rematch clause against Chantelle Cameron,” Hearn confirmed while in New York City to otherwise promote the Edgar Berlanga-Jason Quigley card at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater. “We’re going to plan that fight probably for November time. It’s going to be a huge fight.”

Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing promotes Cameron and Taylor.

Their May 20 clash marked the first pro fight at home for Bray’s Taylor (22-1, 6 KOs), who’d fought exclusively in the UK and US since her November 2016 pro debut. The long overdue homecoming at Dublin’s 3Arena didn’t go as planned for the 2012 Olympic Gold medalist and two-division champ. England’s Cameron (18-0, 8 KOs) earned a ten-round, majority decision to successfully defend her undisputed championship on the road.

The fight came with a rematch clause, which Taylor confirmed in her post-fight interview that she would invoke.

“Congratulations to Chantelle on a fantastic performance,” Taylor humbly stated during her post-fight interview. “Thank you for the opportunity to fight for your belts. I look forward to the rematch.”

Cameron commented after the fight that she was open to fighting in another weight division, in a bid to become a multi-division champion. Taylor moved up for this fight and Jessica McCaskill moved down from her undisputed welterweight championship reign to unsuccessfully challenge Cameron, who fully unified the welterweight division in their November 5 clash in Abu Dhabi.

“I’ll speak to my team and see what’s next but I’m sick of keeping my belts,” noted Cameron after the biggest win of her career. “I want to go for some more belts.”

A move down to lightweight would mark Cameron’s lightest weight since 2018, though a move to which she’s not averse since all of belts are spoken for at welterweight. The revelation by Matchroom, however, doesn’t yet include a change in location or weight.

“Chantelle Cameron will come into that fight as the A-side as the favorite as well,” noted Hearn. "It’s going to be a massive night.”

Can’t this women’s crap have its own section of the forum? Just so the main forums can focus on actual boxing.

Or are the snowflakes going to melt at that suggestion.

I only put it on the British section as the above said, women’s section doesn’t get a look in and this is actually a big women’s fight.

First fight was a good one but I didn't see anything from Katie that makes me think she'll do any better in the rematch.

Chantelle Cameron Had Hoped To Face Katie Taylor For Titles at 135, Expects Rematch at 140

Undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron is expecting to defend her crown against Katie Taylor in a year-end rematch.

Back in May, Cameron handed Taylor her first career defeat by way of a ten round decision in Dublin.

In the aftermath of the fight, the 37-year-old Taylor would exercise an immediate rematch clause.

The second fight is being targeted for the month of May.

However, Cameron was hoping to drop down in weight to challenge Taylor for her undisputed crown at lightweight.

"It's looking like [the rematch] will be for my belts again," Cameron told the BBC Radio 5 Live boxing podcast.

"I'd rather it wasn't, but if I have to go back then I have to go back."

Cameron has a goal of becoming an undisputed world champion in two weight classes.

"I wanted to challenge myself this time and go for a new weight division to become undisputed. I defended my belt against [Jessica] McCaskill who was [the welterweight] undisputed champion," Cameron said.

"She didn't want to give me the rematch and they didn't want to see the fight again so that was fair enough. I then put my belts on the line against Katie Taylor, beat her and set myself a challenge to go at lightweight which I think I'm better at as well."

Cameron's trainer, Jamie Moore, would love a scenario where all of the titles - at 135 and 140 - are at stake in the rematch.

"We understand that Katie wants to reverse the decision and become undisputed at another weight. But why can't we do all the belts? That way everyone is a winner. Chantelle gets the chance to be a two-weight world champion and so does Katie," Moore said.

Press Release

Chantelle Cameron returns to the Lion’s Den to put her undisputed Super-Lightweight World Titles on the line for a second time against Irish legend Katie Taylor at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday November 25, live worldwide on DAZN.

Northampton’s Cameron (18-0, 8 KOs) handed undisputed Lightweight World Champion Taylor the first defeat of her career to remain undisputed ruler at 140lbs when they met on an historic night at the sold-out 3Arena in Dublin back in May.

Despite coming into the fight defending her belts, Cameron was seen as a major underdog for Taylor’s first fight in Ireland in her seven-year professional career – but the 32-year-old Brit stunned the home crowd by scoring a majority decision win over their hero.

The bout lived up to the huge expectation as both fighters left everything in the ring in front of a deafening partisan crowd, but after ten close rounds, Cameron was a worthy winner and cemented her place as one of the best female fighters on the planet.

“Last time out I pulled off one of the best ever away wins against the best female fighter on the planet,” said Cameron. “To go over to Ireland for her homecoming with my belts on the line and beat her was a brilliant experience, but beating her on November 25 will surpass that as I know what to expect now.

“I’ve boxed at that high level with a huge amount of pressure on me and the crowd against me. Going into November 25 I’m more than prepared this time. I know what it feels like now and I’m going to go in there with more aggression and energy and I’m confident of getting the job done in better fashion.

“I’m going to be a lot better in the rematch. In the gym we’re correcting mistakes that I’ve made. There were little things that I was doing during the first fight that led to me being headbutted a lot – that’s why my face was very bruised up at the end of the fight.

“Going back to Ireland to beat Katie Taylor twice in a row will show that it wasn’t just a lucky night for me and an off night for Katie. I said it last time – I think I’m all wrong for Katie. I’m too big, I’m too strong and my will to win is too strong. I’m going to be there all night long. Katie picked the wrong fighter to fight.”

“I'm delighted the rematch has been made and really can't wait for another huge night in November,” said Taylor. “I relish challenges like this and these are the occasions I live for.”

“Strap yourselves in for another electric night at the 3Arena in Dublin as Chantelle Cameron and Katie Taylor run it back for Super-Lightweight supremacy on Saturday November 25,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “The atmosphere inside that arena was one of the loudest and most special that I’ve ever experienced in all my years in this sport and I expect November 25 to be even better.

"Last time out Chantelle Cameron proved that she in one of the very best female fighters on the planet by handing Katie Taylor her first loss in the professional ranks. Katie will be desperate to avenge that loss but Chantelle is determined to prove that it wasn’t a one off. Don’t miss this one, live and exclusive around the world on DAZN.”

"Another massive fight to add to our ever growing autumn schedule”, said Alfie Sharman, VP, DAZN. “There is nothing more dangerous than a motivated Katie Taylor and after being defeated for the very first time in her pro career to a modern day great in Chantelle Cameron I am expecting fireworks. Tune in November 25 to watch live and exclusive only on DAZN.”

Will be interesting to see how these play out. If the women can't hack 3x12 then I think 3 mins with reduced rounds is better than the current 2 minute rounds.

Chantelle Cameron: "I Know All Taylor Wants is Revenge, I Just Gotta To Be Better"

“I think I can’t be complacent. I’m never complacent. Katie is a great fighter and I know that all she wants is this revenge,” Cameron said at Tuesday’s press conference. “I’ve just gotta be better. Me and Jamie [Moore. her trainer] have been going over the fight over and over and I’m kind of sick of watching it because I did make so many mistakes. Some of the bits I cringe over. I look back at that and definitely think I’ve got more gears in there and I’ve gotta come back to Dublin, do the business again and get on with my career.”

“I think it was the first fight where I thought, ‘Wow, I’ve just beaten Katie Taylor.’ I’ve had other fights where I’ve won and it’s not really fazed me,” she said. “I’ve always wanted that fight because I thought that if you beat Katie Taylor, you’ve kind of completed boxing because she’s such a great fighter but that’s been and done now.

“I’ve beaten Katie. Now I have to do it again and everything is about me improving and me getting better. Everything has had to change in my mindset.”
