Mick “The Rub” Williamson

Post by Spud »

Hello forum,

Many of the knowledgeable boxing fans will know the name of Mick “The Rub” Williamson.

Mick was a world class cutsman used by the likes of Ricky Hatton amongst other elite level fighters.

I liked mick a lot, he always had time for me, we were regularly chatting about various aspects of
Boxing.

I used to have micks number bit have lost it.

Has anyone had any contact with Mick?

I have not seen him for sometime?

Would really appreciate it if anyone has some info on him.

Can’t remember where or when, maybe a Hatton or Smith fight:

We were all in the bar drinking and my cousin asked Mick how to get started as cut man, or if he ever took protégés. I can’t remember exactly what he said but it amounted to “no fornicate off” and my cousin was devastated

there was a great article about him in Boxing News a few years back. Kerry Kayes speaks highly of him, Mick trained Kerry and seems to have passed the cuts baton onto him. I don't think he ever did it full time, was a cabby iirc. Hope he is well and happy.

I was wrong, actually. Apologies. Upon checking, mick was interviewed on the pound for pound podcast with Spencer Oliver and max from eastenders. Was a good listen, though mick comes across as a miserable b**tard lol
