I remember this guy named Anges Adjaho that basically dumbed his way to a KO loss. Basically anytime he took a hit, he'd complain to the ref. One of those guys that is just frustrating as sh*t to watch because he fights like a chickensh*t hoping the referee is gonna give him the fight so he doesn't have to actually win it.

Anyway I remember he went down from a shot, I think he was claiming it was the back of the head or whatever while on the mat and literally just stayed down there, clear headed, able to continue and argued with the ref all the way to a 10 count and a KO loss

I don't believe Adjaho was ever seen again on U.S. Television. Rightfully so.

Green vs Briggs..... an absolute shit show from the start.... legit rumours the old, out of shape Briggs getting KO'd in training.... venue being changed last minute because they were refused sanctioning in NSW...... bout lasts seconds, and in an attempt to appease the roaring boos, Green calls Briggs a dog for his performance..... Green calls a press conference the next morning claiming on review the KO was legit because he clearly "hit the soft part of the skull"..... more drama than a soap opera and less believable.....

Yeah that's clearly bullsh*t. The jab goes over Briggs' head for f*cks sake. Shame really. I don't know what the hell was up with all that, but yeah that wasn't a legit KO, and Briggs obviously didn't even pretend to give a sincere effort.

I remember seeing that when it happened, but had kinda blocked it from my memory.

Briggs must have been injured prior to entering the ring. Wasn't he under medical suspension somewhere in Australia?

As for that knockout, it was bizarre as hell. Green landed a glancing jab alongside the top of Briggs's head. Not the kind of punch you'd expect to get an opponent's attention, never mind knocking them out.

Briggs suffered a brain hemorrhage and neurologicol damage after Adamek II which led to his retirement. It was also why he was deemed medically unfit to fight Green, so they moved the venue. His former manager had ripped him off, and it cost him his marriage. Briggs was broke and desperate. Green on the other hand seemed to have no issue fleecing the Australian public and cashing in on Briggs' name and former reputation. I think Briggs planned to go down at the first possible moment, and had no idea how to make it look convincing.

A very unusual TKO worth mentioning is Lonnie Bennett's 1977 third round stoppage of Yaqui Lopez. For two and half rounds Lopez battered and floored Bennett. Then a conspicuous – possibly deliberate – headbutt cut Yaqui, causing the TKO.

There was no doubt that a butt, and not a punch, caused the cut. That was clear from the video replays. But for some reason, the referee ruled it a TKO, rather than an NC or DQ victory for Lopez. The bout took place in Indiana, BTW.

Afterwards, Yaqui was emotional, crying and questioning if he'd ever be able to get his career back on track. Manager Jack Cruz said he'd appeal to authorities to get the result changed to NC. For whatever reason, that never happened.

Normally, I don't make a big deal out of controversial TKO's involving cuts and possible head butts. It's often hard to tell which came first, the punch or headbutt, or if the latter was accidental or deliberate. But this fight was exceptional. IMO very unfair to Lopez.

Thomas Hearns - Marcus Geraldo (Geraldo looked like he barely got hit) (Maybe the punch was So Fast that I just couldn't detect it properly..?!) :maybe:

I thought Geraldo got clipped by four or five shots to the head before falling. But they seemed more like long-range, light blows than power punches.

Maybe the explanation has to do with Hearns, who was such an exceptional puncher that, maybe, even his lightest blows did damage.

WoW. Talk about "Blast from the past" !!
Upon watching this, for only the 2nd time over, since initially watching this very weird bout, back in 93, in the local pub, I can honestly say, Tim Tomosheck Should've been Allowed to continue, as there Really wasn't a truly warranted justification for the ref stoppage, after that 4th round.
Tim was Still , Very Much in this fight..!!

I didn't see him looking particularly hurt, at all really.., nor was he getting excessively beaten up..!!
Definitely a Lame stoppage, for sure and Certain, and I say this as the former "Tommy Morrison fan" that I was, Way back in the day..!!
Now, as for my concluding summarization, Yes, Tommy wasn't going to get hit hard or hurt by Tim, nor tired out and left as an arm weary sitting duck like he was in the 1991 Mercer bout. But nevertheless, I'm actually not very certain if Tommy was Really going to definitely get Tim legitimately out of there before the final bell.

Tim Tomosheck obviously had Amazing Unique abilities. He actually reminds me of Max Baer, in a vague sort of definitive comedic comparison. Also he's At least a tad bit reminiscent of Dicky Ecklund, another inherent Party Animal with particularly unusual unrefined Boxing abilities.

This probably would've wound up being an extra embarrassing bout for Morrison. (Because Tim was likely going to go the distance). Barring the ref's adherence to the intricately corrupt ways of American Pro Boxing.

I had never heard of Tomashek until I saw him on David Letterman after the fight. They had him on the show because of his naive, awestruck attitude after being KO'd by Morrison.

Tomashek, bug eyed and in amazed by Morrison's punching power, kept saying, "Oh my God!" or "Holy Moses!" or something like that. He came across as a likeable, funny rube, something Letterman's producers knew would make great late night entertainment.

Considering the vast disparity in physical ability, Tomashek actually gave a good account of himself against The Duke.

the originall scheduled opponent for that title defense, was suppose be be the dude who played the
HW Champ "Union Cane" in ROCKY V,
( a real life boxer) who got dressed and skipped down just after the official weigh-in earlier that day !
BTW check out what Tommy Morrison seems to say at 14:51 of the clip, he doesn't look happy.

From memory, Johnny Lewis refused to train Briggs for the fight. I can’t remember if it was after he started training with him or if he just told him no because of his injuries. I am in the minority camp of believing the knockout was legit. From what I heard at the time Briggs shouldn’t have even been sparring.
He was knocked out cold in the gym with 16oz gloves and headgear by a LHW who was in his 40s and had won 4 of his 11 fights by KO. They were either ref or corner stoppages, so not only was he oodles of levels below Green (and Briggs at his best) he wasn’t a didn’t have a knockout punch. That he was so light punching is probably why they bought him in as a sparring partner in the first place.
There were stories of him forgetting where he parked his car etc.
Green knew exactly what was going to happen. He hoped it wouldn’t be off a jab but he knows too many people (hell if I heard the stories he would’ve heard them well before me) to know what was going to happen. Maybe he was trying to help and old mate/another fighter out.
Everyone involved in that fight (aside from Briggs who was desperate, likely mentally impaired at the time and didn’t know another way to make money) has a lot to answer for.

FWIW at their best Briggs beats Green.
