Not a good fight for Cooney. Bonecrusher packed brutal punching power, and Cooney lacked durability and defense. Even so, he might have won, given that Smith was often ponderous and stiff. And of course Gerry could KO anyone he managed to hit with his left-hook.

This match goes either way. If it ends early, it's because Smith drops Cooney for the count. If it moves into the later rounds, most likely Cooney's controlling the action with his left-jab, powerful left-hook, and combination punching.

My guesswork is based on the assumption that each guy fights his best.

Love both fighters, but it would be a war as either Cooney stopping Bonecrusher in the early or late rounds with big left hooks or vice versa for Bonecrusher who would stop him in the late rounds like he did with Frank Bruno.

These are the kind of fight that would have been interesting to see Cooney in. Too bad his management team wanted no part of these kind of fights.

I think Bonecrusher would weather the early storm, and after 7, take over. 8th or 9th round, it's over.
