To Wouter on Vicente Rondon's height and reach

Post by scorpio83 »

Hello Wouter,

I don't know if you get my message from the other subject not even on the private message that I wrote to you.

Anyways, Most sources say Rondon stood 6'3", but I look at the tale of the tape between him and Bob Foster, Foster stood about 2 inches taller than Rondon as Bob Foster actually stood 6'3 1/2" while Rondon stood 6'1 1/2". Find Rondon's tale of the tape in one of the old newspaper articles. There was a photo at the pre-fight press conference that Foster was taller than Rondon. Also, Rondon stood about 1 or 1 and a half inches taller than Jimm Dupree. If you watched closely on the Bob Foster vs. Muhammad Ali, Foster was half an inch taller than Ali.

There is a video between Vicente Rondon and Jimmy Dupree.

There is also the video of the fight between Vicente Rondon and Bob Foster in their unification Light Heavyweight title fight and you see how little Foster was taller than Rondon.

Please change Rondon's height and find out if his reach was 75 or 77 inches before you add it if you can.

Have you come across a tale of the tape for any of these fights? It's hard to judge a fighter's correct height only by how tall he appears on screen.

Thanks for the reply.

There was the tale of the tape for Bob Foster vs. Vicente Rondon fight and it was in one of the articles from newspaper archive on google. If you find the picture at the pre-fight conference, Foster was taller than Rondon by 2 inches.

This article was from Boca Raton News from April 6, 1972 a day before their fight.

April 7, 1972 Miami Herald has Rondon at 6'1" with a 77" reach -it lists Rondo's and Bob oster's measurements.

By the way, do you trust tales of the tape ? I've always wondered who takes those measurements ?

No one does it officially, tale of the tapes are normally guessed or made up. The only official measurement is the weight and even that isn't done consistently or accurately. Fighters often weigh-in in various levels of undress. Henry Cooper said he had weights strapped to him for the first Ali weigh-in to make him look heavier. I imagine others have done this too. I also imagine lots of scales aren't calibrated properly or even purposely mis-adjusted to make one fighter appear overweight. I certainly recall one fighter saying this happened to him, he went to another country and had their own scales with them so were confident of their weight but when they had the official weigh-in they were over the weight limit. They challenged it and put a 10kg dumbbell on the scales and the "official" scale was 1kg out. Another dodgy practice to add to all the other dodgy things that happen in boxing.

never trust a dude to give you an accurate height for themselves. even an already gigantic tyson fury exaggerates his height

Thanks for the reason on why you mistype their names. Anyways, sometimes the tale of the tape from the newspaper are mostly accurate, but sometimes they either shrink or exaggerate the height. For example, Bob Satterfield was listed at 6'2" on this website, but you watch his fight with Ezzard Charles and Nino Valdes, Satterfield was shorter than Charles and Valdes as he was the same size with Harold Johnson if you watch their fight as well as Satterfield's height was exaggerate by 4 inches. This is why someone needs to change Satterfield's height.

I mean, they gave guys' ankle measurements years ago-crazy. For what it's worth, I was friends with the great matchmaker Johnny Bos and he told me Frank Bruno-whom he worked with- measured 6'2".

I don’t know about that, I remember one sports journalist from the UK saying they just made the measurements up.
