A serious bummer. Sad that JCM keeps hitting these speed bumps when he clearly wants to fight and put on a show against top talent. Good thing that he’s young and has Reynoso and plenty of time on his side.

It had all the makings of a spectacular fight…

loving that main event and ak-rios should be fun, though probably a beatdown in store for ron

Press Release | Julio Cesar Martinez vs. McWilliams Arroyo Added

The trilogy clash between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez will take place at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday December 3, live worldwide on DAZN – and Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are delighted to announce that Julio Cesar Martinez will meet McWilliams Arroyo for his WBC World Super-Flyweight title as the co-main event on a blockbuster night of action in Arizona.

Estrada (43-3 28 KOs) and Chocolatito (51-3 41 KOs) will finally go toe-to-toe for the third time in their storied careers, with their last meeting in March 2021 a fight of the year contender that Estrada edged via split decision in Dallas. That victory levelled the score between the pair, after Chocolatito won their first battle back in November 2012 in Los Angeles, and now they will lock horns once again for their third mouth-watering battle a decade on from the first.

Martinez (18-2 14 KOs) and Arroyo (21-4 16 KOs) are also renewing their rivalry on December 3, after their firefight of a first contest in November was sadly cut short after an accidental headclash caused a cut for Arroyo, ending a chaotic three round whirlwind that saw both fighters hit the canvas in the opening session, and Arroyo visit the deck again in the second.

There’s more action to be added to the card soon, and promoter Eddie Hearn believes the final Matchroom show of 2022 in America could be the most explosive yet, with Martinez and Arroyo providing the tastiest of appetizers before the stunning main event.

“What a night this is going to be,” said Hearn. “The trilogy battle between Estrada and Chocolatito is guaranteed to be a thriller, and Martinez and Arroyo have given us a taste of what they provide when they tangle.

“Estrada and Chocolatito will go down as one of the great rivalries in the sport, and on December 3, one of these two modern greats will edge ahead of the other, and that promises to make this the most thrilling of the three clashes – it’s an early Christmas present for fight fans that you do not want to miss.”

Martinez-Arroyo Rematch Back In Play, Purse Bid Won By Eddy Reynoso's Clase y Talento

The Julio Cesar Martinez-McWilliams Arroyo rematch is somehow back in play.

A purse bid held Thursday to determine promotional rights to the snakebit title consolidation bout was won by Clase y Talento, the company headed by Eddy Reynoso who submitted $345,000.

Ten percent of the bid ($34,500) will be placed in escrow as a win bonus. The remaining $310,500 will be split 65/35 in favor of Martinez (20-2, 15KOs; 2NC) as the defending titlist.

Puerto Rico’s Arroyo holds the interim title, though he has not fought since their November 2021 meeting which ended in a No-Contest after just two rounds. A clash of heads ended their wild affair that saw both men hit the canvas in a truncated fight that was already canceled twice prior to that point.

Neither a date nor location was specified for the rematch, which has already seen two dates fall through due to various issues.

Martinez fell ill during fight week ahead of another planned meeting last June 25 in San Antonio. The bout was rescheduled for last December 3 in Glendale, Arizona. Arroyo bizarrely announced his retirement six weeks out from the fight before he immediately walked back the claim, only to withdraw from the fight after suffering a training camp injury.

Martinez went on to face Spain’s Samuel Cardona, whom he outpointed over twelve awkward rounds. He since claimed an eleventh-round knockout of Ronal Batista for his sixth successful title defense on the May 6 undercard of superstar stablemate Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s unanimous decision win over John Ryder in Zapopan, Mexico.

Alvarez and Martinez are both guided by Reynoso.

Arroyo—who represented Puerto Rico in the 2008 Beijing Olympics—was afforded the chance to fight for the interim title after a canceled February 2021 meeting with Martinez in Miami Gardens, Florida. Their planned fight was due to serve as the co-feature to Alvarez’s eventual third round knockout of Avni Yildrim, only for Martinez to withdraw just prior to the weigh-in after concealing an injured hand.

Martinez also withdrew from a scheduled August 2020 title defense versus Arroyo due to illness.

Martinez has held the WBC junior bantamweight title since a December 2019 ninth-round knockout of former titlist Cristofer Rosales in Phoenix, Arizona. The belt was previously vacated by Charlie Edwards, who opted to move up in weight after a three-round No-Contest versus Martinez in their August 2019 mandatory title fight in London.

Should the rematch actually move forward, the winner will be free to make a voluntary defense in their next outing. Martinez is co-promoted by Matchroom Boxing, who just confirmed the terrific Sunny Edwards-Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez IBF/WBO flyweight title unification championship for later this year.

Matchroom signed Edwards earlier this spring and co-promotes Rodriguez along with Teiken Promotions.

Julio Cesar Martinez-McWilliams Arroyo Rematch Back In Play For November 4

Julio Cesar Martinez and McWilliams Arroyo have another fight date in place for their oft-delayed rematch.

Whether they make into the ring or It once again collapses is a tale that will be told in the coming weeks.

BS.com has learned that the WBC flyweight title fight is set to take place November 4 at a location to be determined as part of a Showtime Championship Boxing telecast. Should it hold, Martinez-Arroyo II will join the previously revealed Subriel Matias-Shohjahon Ergashev IBF junior welterweight title fight.

The snakebit title consolidation bout promotionally belongs to Clase y Talento, the company headed by Eddy Reynoso who submitted $345,000 to win the rights during a June 22 purse bid hearing. Ten percent of the bid ($34,500) will be placed in escrow as a win bonus. The remaining $310,500 will be split 65/35 in favor of Martinez (20-2, 15 KOs; 2NC) as the defending titlist.

Puerto Rico’s Arroyo holds the interim title, though he has not fought since their November 2021 meeting which ended in a No-Contest after just two rounds in Manchester, New Hampshire. A clash of heads ended their wild affair that saw both men hit the canvas in a truncated fight that was already cancelled twice prior to that point.

The rematch suffered two separate postponements in 2022.

Martinez went on to face Spain’s Samuel Cardona, whom he outpointed over twelve rounds.

Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) signed to a multi-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). It begins with his undisputed super middleweight championship defense versus fully unified Jermell Charlo atop a September 30 Showtime Pay-Per-View event.

Should the rematch finally move forward, the winner will be free to make a voluntary defense in their next outing. Among the attractive options would be the victor from the terrific Sunny Edwards-Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez IBF/WBO flyweight title fight on December 16 in Glendale, Arizona.
