Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
If he's that good why have all the fighters he's trained let him go, surely they'd want to keep him if he brought success.
Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
Flashy, vain, smug, and who's that other twat??? Frank Smith?? And you thought Warren looked like a slimeball Jesus the vanity

I disagree. One of the reasons boxing is a minority sport now is because we just do not have experienced and knowledgeable trainers any more imo. Trainers nowadays are more like personal trainers,we have to be honest here. No disrespect to the Davidson's and Shane McGuigans of this world but they are no Manny Stewards or Eddie Futches. And there are just not enough quality fighters around to continually test each and improve each other.
Well one thing he did'nt teach, was something new everyday in the gym , NO ONE knows that much , but what he did do was keep Ali focused , picked up straight away when Ali was doing something wrong , and help perfect what he done correct , hence why the greatest and above all work out and plan the CORRECT stratergies to beat opponents , plus they had that trainer / boxer relationship that you get ,
Seen a million times , even watching it play out at the moment with some local ameteurs , trainer / boxer doing well along comes the smooth talker , and off goes the boxer ,, they have a couple of wins , and presto smooyh talker has more to add to his resume which was already built on the work of others , , but then boxer leaves when he relizes he's not been taught anything , he was still doing well on his previous coaches teachings , when implementing his new coaches stuff in the gym it does'nt work ,, Who has Ben Davidson taught from scratch , , what already established world champ has been to him learnt from him and stayed with him , .
Got no doubt he talks a good game , but some people along the lines of Teddy Atlas , can make counting 1,2,3, sound super intelligent ,
Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
You’d think by this poll that Ben won the fight for AJ. It was Otter fornicating Wallin he was fighting.
Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
Exactly my point. I honestly have nothing against the young trainers I mentioned I really don't,but who have they trained from day one? Every single one of the high profile boxers trained by Shane and Ben were already established and knew their way around a ring. My argument is when you talk about real quality trainers, I'm thinking about all these unsung old school amateur trainers from every corner of the UK that coached the likes of Fury,Joshua,Froch,Groves,Haye, etc . They teach the fundamentals, the basics, they recognise talent, understand how to tweak that talent. These are teachers, unpaid social workers, disciplinarians. And you know what? These incredible Human beings are not even getting paid most of the time. Ben's a great talker but the old school trainers are the masters imoconeye wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 16:24I agree with you , personal trainers is what they are especielly Davidson , OK Ok he's trained Fury , BJS , Taylor , now AJ and thats great on his resume , BUT whats he taught any of them , whats he changed in any of them for the better , Fury well he could'nt get it right against the ltd Wilder , , and would'nt listen to experienced trainers like Roach on how to aproach it , guys a personality like you say a personal trainer , my father in law would of described him well , he would off just said Bullshit baffles Brains ,, And i think importantly , who stayed with himBercli wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 13:39I disagree. Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
well given the complete radio silence from Derrick James in the run up and post fight it seems inevitable .
Otto was pants but so was Helenius but AJ was so much better this time out .

Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
Why would he bitter about Fury, Saunders & Taylor leaving him? He’s not brought them through. He probably couldn’t believe his luck that he’s got huge pay days off doing very little.
If McCormack & anyone else he brings through leave him before their big fights we’ll see if he’s bitter.

Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
I doubt he has a huge payday, nowhere near 10%, he would have got a set fee, prob one of the reasons he got the work was because he was cheap, in that he would have been trying to get a name for himself so he could charge more down the line.a force wrote: ↑28 Dec 2023, 16:02 Why would he bitter about Fury, Saunders & Taylor leaving him? I agree. I'd be shocked if he was the main trainer for Joshua's vacant world title fightCoco wrote: ↑28 Dec 2023, 18:08I doubt he has a huge payday, nowhere near 10%, he would have got a set fee, prob one of the reasons he got the work was because he was cheap, in that he would have been trying to get a name for himself so he could charge more down the line.a force wrote: ↑28 Dec 2023, 16:02 Why would he bitter about Fury, Saunders & Taylor leaving him? no idea re fee but I think he'll be AJ main trainer now, he has a good resume and clearly did well there in recent fight.Bercli wrote: ↑28 Dec 2023, 18:21I agree. Regardless what you think of Ben Davison (not a huge fan myself), its a no brainer to keep him.
AJ aint gonna be learning fcuk all new now.
Keep it simple, he'll have confidence, doesnt need to fcuk about. Trust himself again.

agreed, and big fan of Ben myself. Works harder than all the other trainers who seem to focus on petty snides about him.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 16:03 Regardless what you think of Ben Davison (not a huge fan myself), its a no brainer to keep him.

Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
Why because AJ beat a guy he could of , would off beat when he come straight out of the ameteurs . Aj would off pit him to sleep for a week , 6-7 years agohigh tower 1 wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 20:52 Yes. Don’t like Ben but on this occasion his positive motivation chat working out.

Joshua needs to feel special and be kept happy and Davison is very good at that. Plus, if he bothers to listen, Joshua may actually learn something from him as well.

I wonder what Redback Rastaman would've made of this trainer change/addition?
Re: Ben Davison - Should AJ keep him in the corner?
its not just AJ hes motivated tho. Done great with Leigh Wood, was pivotal in bringing fury back from the brink. He can clearly get 'em enthused.coneye wrote: ↑31 Dec 2023, 23:04Why because AJ beat a guy he could of , would off beat when he come straight out of the ameteurs .
