Post by 1518298 »

Hi,
what could be the value of a '70's EBU belt?
Cheers,

Depends entirely upon whose belt it was, the bigger the name the more the value. On the other hand if it was just one out of the factory with no provenance then very little.

Hi John, it's JP Coopman's 1977 EBU belt after the Ali fight.

Since it's not a UK fighter I can't really offer much of a guess but If it has good provenance then it will have value in the Belgian market. Pulling a figure out of thin air, if it was me I wouldn't accept less than 7K.

The only consolation from Ali's fight with the hapless Coopman is the 13-round war between Alfredo Escalera and Jose Fernandez in the chief support. Fernandez gave it everything but Escalera came though to retain his WBC super-featherweight title.
