Who is the best promoter in history?
Who is the best promoter in history?
I’ve missed a few out of course, because I reckon most on here won’t have heard of them.
I know Turki isn’t a promoter per se but for me he’s the top man in all of boxing. Without him we absolutely would never have had Usyk win the undisputed because Wank Warren would have lied for his man and fucked the whole thing up.
I can add others in if folk think I’ve genuinely missed someone they want to vote for.
Turki for me will go down in history as a great figure in boxing. I was sceptical at first but the guy just wants to see the best fight the best, same as the rest of us.

Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
Definitely feel like Honda deserves a mention, almost no one has had a bad word about him, most of the others have worked with him, his longevity is up there with the longest of them. Not sure if he's the best but definitely deserves a mention, not many others have been in the business for 60 years.

Suppose depends who you ask , if you ask Barry Hearn , he'll say its my boy Eddie , If you ask Eddie Hearn he'll say Me with my dad a close second , Ask old fish eyes he'll laugh and say its obvious is'nt it , i've been around for ever , and we just kicked Eddies arse 5-0

Well in that case , i think regardless off what a terrible human being he apparantly was , Don King gave us some great great fights , .Mummery wrote: ↑10 Aug 2024, 10:01I’m just asking the forum mateconeye wrote: ↑10 Aug 2024, 09:51 Suppose depends who you ask , if you ask Barry Hearn , he'll say its my boy Eddie , If you ask Eddie Hearn he'll say Me with my dad a close second , Ask old fish eyes he'll laugh and say its obvious is'nt it , i've been around for ever , and we just kicked Eddies arse 5-0

Remember a quote i read in a book years ago think it was the black lights , about Billy Costello if i'm correct , (good chance i'm not though )
It went along the lines of some manager /trainer , saying DON kING, what can you say Don King is a lying motherf , dON kING wants to own every dollar ever printed , he will never have enough money , , Don King would rob his own mother for a dollar , but if i was a boxer who would i want to go with DON KING because he delivers ,
Course its a long time since i read it so someone else feel free to correct it

Gotta be Uncle Bob, for longevity alone, been at the top of the game since the 60s, even Don King's been pretty much irrelevant for the past 20 years

I'm going with Tex Rickard. An attendance of 135,000 for Dempsey-Tunney. No social media, no internet, no television.
Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
Turki is only a good promoter as he doesn't care about money, I could be the best promoter if I had billions to burn and didn't care if I made a penny on my shows

To be (unusually) fair to FW, if he isn’t on the list, neither of the Hearns should be.

Ben Shalom
Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
Depends from who's perspective. King maybe for the fans but I don't think the boxers would agree. Therefore, Arum probably when you consider the biggest fights he's put on and for how long he's been putting them on. I think he's probably getting on a bit though...

arum's longevity is incredible, still kicking around , travelling the world, and a powerhouse in his 90s. still a gangster who doesn't give a f@ck
Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
That’s the shite thing about boxing and its historical promoting, it’s more about those crooks making money than the fighters.
Turki pays what’s needed to get the fights done and makes the fighters fight who they should be fighting.
He’s good for boxing.
Arum, King, Palermo, Wanky etc are bad for boxing.

So Fury should have been fighting Ngganou, Joshua should have been fighting Wallin, Ngganou and Dubois, Crawford should have been fighting Madrimov, and Zhang should have been fighting Wilder?Mummery wrote: ↑11 Aug 2024, 00:06That’s the shite thing about boxing and its historical promoting, it’s more about those crooks making money than the fighters.

Who else could/should they have fought?Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑11 Aug 2024, 00:30So Fury should have been fighting Ngganou, Joshua should have been fighting Wallin, Ngganou and Dubois, Crawford should have been fighting Madrimov, and Zhang should have been fighting Wilder?Mummery wrote: ↑11 Aug 2024, 00:06That’s the shite thing about boxing and its historical promoting, it’s more about those crooks making money than the fighters.

Ngannou gave Fury hell, made him look stupid. Joshua ironed him out and finished his boxing aspirations making himself a contender again after looking a shell of himself after Usyk humbled him.
Wallin, I agree with but he’s a common opponent with Fury, and he again elevated himself by disposing of him far easier than Fury.
Idiots had been touting Wilder as the hardest hitter in history, making Fury an ATG for going life and death with him. Zhang and Parker exposed that myth.

Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
love what turks done so far, but way too short a time in boxing to get this honour. its like comparing fighters with deep hall of fame boxing records spanning over a decade to someone who in a year or two has a couple of really good wins but no other fights ever
guys like arum and king were involved in making some legendary fights and have like 50 years up in the house. arum just had a world title card on last night with an arguable ko of the year. put the quality fights they made next to those turki has........no contest. turk has done excellent for his short time in though

Arum is a scumbag who has fucked over more fighters than he’s made. Same as King.
The poll is more about what people accept than who is the actual best.
I haven’t heard anyone say Turki fucked them. It’s just cos he’s a Saudi that people like Alba make stupid moral judgements on him.
Mainly cos they are thick as shit.
Your point is totally valid tho, he’s only been a round a minute compared to dinosaurs like Arum.
Re: Who is the best promoter in history?
The man put on some big fights but I despise him for his treatment of fighters, specifically Joe Gans.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑10 Aug 2024, 11:48 I'm going with Tex Rickard. An attendance of 135,000 for Dempsey-Tunney. No social media, no internet, no television.
Just another big time criminal involved in boxing. I should have put Kinahan in he’d get some votes too likely.
