Post by gilgamesh »

The big punching Heavyweight with no skill against the very skilled Heavyweight with no punch. Who does everyone got in this one?

Byrd would definitely outbox Wilder. There's a puncher's chance for Deontay, but it's a question, whether he could find a good opening.

I definitely lean toward Byrd taking a UD, and winning every round in the process. Byrd was slick enough defensively that I think you need more than one weapon to beat him. Wilder only has the 1 weapon.

Wilder by late round stoppage in the 11th, way behind on the cards.

For all my criticism towards Wilder - my gut feeling tells he'll catch Byrd with something in late rounds.

Byrd was slick, but it wasn't impossible to land on him. He also wasn't really a runner/mover. He had a very good upper body movement. But he was often staying in front of his foes more than he should have. Also, had a tendency of getting stuck on ropes.

Wilder is no Ibeabuchi in a sense, that he won't really crowd you on those ropes. With his low workrate and fixation on landing one good shot, he'll provide Byrd with a chance to escape from ropes or corners.

On his part, though, Byrd is no Luis Ortiz. Ortiz was a bigger southpaw than Byrd. And also had pop to keep Wilder honest. Byrd could punch, but not as hard.

Wilder

Byrd got hit, rarely did he pitch a shutout. I figure deontay catches him

deontay wilder, what a laughably thin list of wins for a long time champ

he could catch byrd to stop him but chris could outpoint him too, bit of a pick em. people act like deontay just needs 1 shot and he's got a ko but that's not true at all. he needed loads of shots to finish flopper molina. duhaupas and stiverne took 11-12 rounds of flush pounding but never knocked down. fury kept getting up and stopped him. ortiz got up and nearly stopped him. arreola took a drubbing but kept coming and was ready to go when his corner retired him before the 9th

its not a battle of dudes needing to win a shutout and wilder just needing 1 shot

Chris Byrd of the night that embarrassed the great Evander Holyfield beats Deontay Wilder every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Too slick for the big puncher from Alabama.
