No non-title fights, ever?
No non-title fights, ever?
Quick question for you. According to his record at https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/617144 , all of Niyomtrong's fights have been for titles of some kind. Is there anyone else in boxing history that this applies to? (PS - they have to be real people, not Joves de la Puz).

Re: No non-title fights, ever?
Was going to say, long reigning champion and BoxRec refuses to acknowledge it.
Re: No non-title fights, ever?
Maybe Lomachenko has done it as well I think his debut was for a WBO bauble, but Niyomtrong has also managed to win a title in every single one of his fights which surely nobody else has managed to do...
Re: No non-title fights, ever?
Interesting answers - thank you! Not sure why all of his title fights were showing up for me, then - maybe it is due to editor login? Re Lomachenko, that was a very interesting shout. I was convinced his debut was non-title, but it had an international title attached to it. However, a couple of his fights show up as non-title - the Nakatani and Ortiz ones, although both were over 12 rounds. Was there any title attached to those, I wonder?
Re: No non-title fights, ever?
The Ortiz fight may have had the NABF title attached to it as Ortiz was the holder I believe, however it doesn't look like there was any title at stake for the Nakatani fight.
Interestingly for Niyomtrong, I knew that he did Muay Thai before boxing but didn't realise that he did both for the first two years of his boxing career and was holding the WBC Youth title and the Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai title simultaneously.

Re: No non-title fights, ever?
I haven't looked at his record for a while but I seem to remember Samson Dutchboy Gym had something like 40 WBF title fights.
Saensak Muangsurin famously fought for a world title in his 3rd bout and won, making ten defences before losing. He retired only a few bouts after losing.
At one point it felt like Pongsaklek Wonjongkam had a WBC flyweight bout booked for about 2 decades.
How many title fights did Omar Narvaez have? Felt like he held a title for about 20 years.
Best I can do.

Re: No non-title fights, ever?
Pong had 40 fights before he won a belt and fought non-title fights while a beltholder, Navarez had 11 fights before winning a belt, but fought in title bouts pretty much all the the time after that . You’re right though, both seemed to have a belt forever. Pong was a beltholder for 10 years, Narváez 12.orbtastic wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024, 15:52 I haven't looked at his record for a while but I seem to remember Samson Dutchboy Gym had something like 40 WBF title fights.

Re: No non-title fights, ever?
Was gonna say the same as you guys. Sure Lomachenko fought for some bauble to "justify" the Salido shot in his second fight.
