Caleb Plant vs. Trevor McCumby | Prime - September 14, 2024
Caleb Plant-Trevor McCumby to Headline Aug. 17 Prime Video (non-ppv) show in Orlando
Boxing fans will finally get its version of Amazon Prime Day.
The Ring has confirmed that Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) is set to move forward with its first Prime Video card. Former super middleweight titlist Caleb Plant will headline the inaugural event versus unbeaten fringe contender Trevor McCumby. Their bout will take place on Aug. 17 at Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
It will mark the first Prime card in the U.S. that is not attached to a pay-per-view event. PBC has held three shows under its new deal with Prime Video, all of which came a la carte for home viewers.
Plant (22-2, 13 knockouts) has not fought since his hard-fought defeat to David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) last March in Las Vegas. Benavidez, No. 1 at 168, remains the top contender to undisputed champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).

Plant should fight anyway, unless he is just being fed to McCumby.

Caleb Plant may face new foe after Trevor McCumby is cut
Caleb Plant is set to face a new opponent on an entirely new card and date following the postponement of an upcoming bout with Trevor McCumby, sources told BS.
Plant, the former IBF super middleweight titleholder, was reported to have agreed to fight McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs) upon his return, but a cut over McCumby’s right eye led to a postponement of the Aug. 17 card in Orlando.
Although the fight was not announced officially by PBC, Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) took to social media to say he would face McCumby. Sources said the WBA interim super middleweight title bout was billed to be PBC's first non-PPV Prime Video headliner.
“There was never an official announcement, so there is no new date,” a PBC source told BS. “We’ll announce Plant’s fight in the coming days, and it’s possibly going to be an entirely new opponent given the severity of McCumby’s cut."
Plant hasn't fought since losing a 12-round unanimous decision to David Benavidez in March 2023. Nashville's 32-year-old Plant became a world titleholder in 2019 after a unanimous decision victory over Jose Uzcategui.
He went on to make three successful title defenses against Mike Lee, Vincent Feigenbutz and Caleb Truax before unifying his 168-pound IBF belt against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the undisputed championship in November 2021. Plant fell to Alvarez in an 11th-round stoppage.
Meanwhile, McCumby, a 31-year-old from Glendale, Arizona, has won three straight since ending a near-five-year layoff in May 2023 but is still searching for his first world title shot.
McCumby returned from his hiatus to stop Vicente Rodriguez in five and, one month later, Rodolfo Martinez in the first round. Most recently, in January, McCumby won a wide 10-round unanimous decision over Christopher Pearson.

CALEB PLANT-TREVOR MCCUMBY TO LAND ON CANELO ALVAREZ-EDGAR BERLANGA PPV EVENT
Caleb Plant is no longer tasked with headlining the first standalone Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) Prime Video card.
He is, however, armed with a new fight date.
The Ring has confirmed that Plant’s bout with unbeaten fringe contender Trevor McCumby will now take place on Sept. 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The super middleweight fight will serve as part of the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga PBC on Prime Pay-Per-View event.
Brunch Boxing’s Matthew “Bellini” Brown was the first to report the development.

CALEB PLANT
“Trevor himself knows that I’m not a bum, and that’s why he wants to fight me. He wants to be on the big stage, and that means facing a real fighter. Right now, he’s looking at a real fighter. He’s fought only bums, but he’s not fighting a bum now.
“We’ll see what he brings on Saturday. He’s undefeated and he’s looking to stay that way. So he’ll come motivated.
“Family means the world to me. It means a lot to have my whole family in the gym with me. Having a team like that makes the whole process so much better.
“I know a lot of people say it, but this is the best camp I’ve had and the sharpest I’ve ever boxed. I’ve been staying busy, looking sharp and we’ll see what he’s able to do against it.
“I’m getting that belt around my waist on Saturday night. I’m not looking past that. Whatever happens after that, we’ll be ready.”
TREVOR MCCUMBY
“We’re ready to fight. It’s very motivating to be on a card with all of these great fighters and I’m grateful to be up here with them for this great event.
“There’s no bad blood on my side, I’m just ready to fight. Things are gonna be said at these press conferences and I think Caleb needs to make his opponent the villain when he gets in there. I don’t really let things get in my head like that. I go in there to handle business.
“The back and forth we’ve had adds a little bit of motivation. Caleb is emotional and lets people get into his head too easily.
“On Saturday, you will see what I can do in the ring. There’s no animosity from me, but I’m coming for his heart.
“A win is huge because Caleb is a name. We’re trying to go through each other and that makes it a match made in heaven. I don’t know how he’s gonna come out, but you have to tune into this one, because it’s gonna steal the show.”

I've never seen McCumby fight. Any chance of an upset?
