Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz | PPV - 22 February 2025
Hamzah Sheeraz withdrawn from IBF purse bid and now could be set for Carlos Adames
The path that middleweight contender Hamzah Sheeraz will choose to fight for a world title seems to be becoming clearer, after he was withdrawn from purse bids today to fight Janibek Alimkhanuly.
The Kazakh southpaw defeated New Zealand’s Andrei Mikhailovich last month but the man who holds the WBO and IBF middleweight titles will have to defend his title elsewhere with Sheeraz heading in another direction.
Sheeraz is ranked No. 1 by the WBO and No. 1 by the WBC, and the WBC champion is Carlos Adames.
Queensberry Promotions, who work with Sheeraz, have the IBF’s No. 2 and No. 4, Denzel Bentley and Brad Pauls respectively, fighting on December 7 at Wembley Arena, and the winner of that could be in line for a title shot. Shane Mosley Jnr is rated No. 3 by the WBO.
Newly-installed WBO boss Gustavo Olivieri wrote on X: “Be advised promoter George Warren of Queensberry Promotions, on behalf of Hamzah Sheeraz, confirmed fighter will withdraw the Mandatory against #WBO Middleweight champion @qazaqstyle. Today’s purse bid is canceled. Committee will reconvene to determine next steps.”
The target date for Sheeraz, who in an impressive 2024 has scalped Liam Williams, Ammo Williams, and Tyler Denny, is for him to box on a big bill in Saudi Arabia on February 22.
Adames won the WBC title with a hard-fought victory over Terrell Gausha in June.

Re: Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz - February 2025?
Hamzah Sheeraz agrees terms for world title fight
Middleweight title hopeful Hamzah Sheeraz represents one of the United Kingdom’s best chances at picking up a world title, boasting sensational knockout power and an undefeated record. Now, it appears as though the Berkshire-born contender will have his shot at world honours, with terms agreed for a maiden challenge at the 160lb crown.
During 2024, the 25-year-old knocked out world title challenger Liam Williams, undefeated American prospect Austin Williams, and EBU European champion Tyler Denny in an impressive trifecta of outings to gain worldwide recognition for his skills, drawing flattering comparisons to legendary middleweight Thomas Hearns.
As such, it was the poster boy and unified WBO & IBF champion of the division, Janibek Alimkhanuly, who Sheeraz appeared to be eyeing up, for an ambitious and confident world title charge.
That fight was then ordered by the WBO, but purse bids for the contest were continuously pushed back until yesterday, when it was announced that Sheeraz and his team had pulled out of negotiations.
As many expected, today’s reports from Dan Rafael have confirmed that Sheeraz withdrew from purse bids as an alternate deal had been lined up, instead opting to target WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames, as per Fight Freaks Unite.
“Sheeraz will face WBC titlist Carlos Adames in a fight being planned for the Riyadh Season card being put together for Feb. 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, sources with knowledge of the details told Fight Freaks Unite.
“Queensberry Promotions, which recently signed Sheeraz to a contract extension, was in talks with Premier Boxing Champions to match him either with Adames or WBA titlist Erislandy Lara but they agreed on the Adames fight, one of the sources said.
“While Adames-Sheeraz is not yet signed the camps have agreed to terms, the sources said.”
Adames-Sheeraz will be a part of the February 22nd card that is anticipated to be headlined by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, who is being linked to a showdown with undefeated German Agit Kabayel in the main-event.

Hamzah Sheeraz speaks out after opting to fight Carlos Adames over Janibek Alimkhanuly
Hamzah Sheeraz has become one of the stars in British boxing after delivering many superb performances on the biggest of stages. The 25-year-old middleweight is already on the cusp of becoming a world champion, and he has now provided an update on why he has chosen to fight WBC champion Carlos Adames over IBF and WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly.
Sheeraz now sits as the number one middleweight in the UK and world honours are calling his name.
After it was confirmed that he would return on a proposed February 22nd card on another instalment of Riyadh Season, it looked like he was set to fight Janibek Alimkhanuly.
However after purse bids were set for November 18th, he withdrew from the fight.
It was later revealed that this was because he had agreed terms to fight Carlos Adames instead.
Sheeraz has now spoken out on why he did this on his Twitter/ X account.
“I’ve been saying this for ages. It got ordered after I beat ammo Williams. One step at a time IA”
He has said that this fight was always the plan after it got ordered following his victory over Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams in June.
Adames poses a strong record of 24-1-0, with his only defeat coming in 2021 against Brahian Jose Medina.
Nevertheless, if the fight does take place next, Sheeraz will enter the ring as the favourite.
It is most likely that if the fight happens, it will feature on a February 22nd card, headlined by Daniel Dubois.
Future super fights are there to be made against unified champion Janibek Alimkhanuly and WBA champion Erislandy Lara.

Re: Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz - February 2025?
Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker, Beterbiev vs Bivol 2 planned for February 22nd Riyadh Season
Carlos Adames vs Hamzah Sheeraz, Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis, and Zhilei Zhang vs Agit Kabayel are reportedly also in the works
The first Riyadh Season show of 2025 could be an absolute doozy, as Dan Rafael brings word of a planned five-fight lineup that includes an undisputed rematch alongside two title fights and a pair of incredibly intriguing non-title matchups.
The proposed main event would see Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO) make an admirably tough voluntary defense of his IBF heavyweight title against Joseph Parker. Once reeling from brutal losses to Joe Joyce, both men will enter the ring red-hot thanks to a string of strong victories. Dubois’ last two bouts have seen him smash Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, while Parker pulled off back-to-back upsets of his own over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.
In the co-feature, undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KO) would run it back with Dmitry Bivol (23-1, 12 KO) after pulling off a razor-thin majority decision win in October. The IBF immediately ordered Beterbiev to defend against Michael Eifert, but Rafael claims they reached a step-aside deal.
Other bouts in the work include a previously revealed middleweight title fight between WBC champ Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KO) and top contender Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0, 17 KO), a heavyweight tussle between Zhang (27-2-1, 22 KO) against Agit Kabayel (25-0, 17 KO), and a massive super welterweight clash pitting Vergil Ortiz Jr (22-0, 21 KO) against reigning IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KO).
If this all comes together, it may genuinely be the most stacked card I can remember. All killer no filler.

Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol II set for February 22 in Riyadh
Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will rematch for the undisputed light heavyweight title on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, headlining the latest Riyadh Season event on a card stacked with championship bouts.
The main event, announced Monday on social media and billed as "The Last Crescendo," will revisit the October clash in which Beterbiev narrowly edged Bivol via majority decision to unify the division.
In that fight, the 39-year-old Beterbiev, 21-0 (20 KOs), who has spent much of his career training in Montreal, went the distance for the first time. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Bivol, 23-1 (12 KOs), suffered his first career defeat despite outlanding Beterbiev 142-134 on punches, according to CompuBox. Beterbiev, for his part, landed 90 power shots to Bivol’s 84, highlighting the razor-thin margin.
The undercard will see IBF heavyweight titleholder Daniel Dubois, 22-2 (21 KOs), defend his title against Joseph Parker, 35-3 (23 KOs). Dubois, 27, from the UK, is on a three-fight win streak following a 2023 stoppage loss to Oleksandr Usyk. Parker, 32, a New Zealand former titleholder, enters on a five-fight win streak, with notable victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. Parker’s last title fight was a loss to Anthony Joshua in 2018, while Dubois knocked out Joshua in his most recent fight.
WBC lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson, 22-0 (10 KOs), will face Floyd Schofield, 18-0 (12 KOs). Stevenson, 27, originally from Newark and now training in Houston, accepted the challenge from Schofield, 22, nicknamed “Kid Austin,” following Schofield’s unanimous decision win over Rene Tellez Giron last month, after Schofield called Stevenson out. Their exchanges on social media helped build anticipation for this showdown, which many believed to be out of reach for Schofield.
Carlos Adames, 24-1 (18 KOs), will defend his WBC middleweight title against Hamzah Sheeraz, 21-0 (17 KOs). Adames, 30, based in Las Vegas, has been plagued by inactivity (fighting just once per year since 2022) but is riding a six-fight win streak. Sheeraz, 25, from the UK, earned the title shot with a stoppage of Tyler Denny in September.
The WBC interim junior middleweight title will be contested between Vergil Ortiz Jnr, 22-0 (21 KOs), and Israil Madrimov, 10-1-1 (7 KOs). Ortiz, 26, from Grand Prairie, Texas, won a majority decision over Serhii Bohachuk in August to capture the title. Madrimov, 29, from Uzbekistan, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Terence Crawford in August in Los Angeles, marking Crawford’s debut at 154lbs. More perplexing is that Madrimov will be scheduled for this fight while keeping his fight on December 21 with Bohachuk.
“It’s surprising to see, considering Serhii knocked Vergil down twice and sent him to the hospital [August 10 in Ortiz’s narrow victory by decision in Las Vegas],” Tom Loeffler, Bohachuk’s promoter told Boxing Scene on Monday.
Madrimov would be left with just over two months to recover and prepare against a WBC interim titleholder who has knocked out every foe except Bohachuk.
Also on the card, 41-year-old Zhilei Zhang, 27-2-1 (22 KOs), will face Germany’s Agit Kabayel, 25-0 (17 KOs), for the WBC interim heavyweight title. Zhang, who twice stopped Joe Joyce before losing to Parker, rebounded with a dramatic knockout of Wilder in June. Kabayel, 32, earned this opportunity by stopping Frank Sanchez and Arslanbek Makhmudov in back-to-back fights.
Opening the event, Joshua Buatsi, 19-0 (13 KOs), will defend his WBO interim light heavyweight title against Callum Smith, 30-2 (22 KOs). Buatsi, 31, a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist training in California with Virgil Hunter, is coming off wins over Dan Azeez and Willy Hutchinson in 2024. Smith, 34, rebounded from a stoppage loss to Beterbiev with a fifth-round knockout of Carlos Galvan on Saturday.

Buatsi and Smith as the show opener shows you how strong this card is. That could have been a stadium fight here up until around 18 months ago.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑03 Dec 2024, 04:41 Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol II set for February 22 in Riyadh

Re: Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz | PPV - 22 February 2025
Hamzah Sheeraz promises to deliver
WBC No. 1 middleweight contender Hamzah Sheeraz believes he is more than ready for his February 22 shot at Carlos Adames.
The Englishman is 21-0 (17 KOs) having posted an impressive 2024 with victories over Liam Williams, Ammo Williams and Tyler Denny.
Adames is 24-1 (18 KOs) and defeated Terrell Gausha in his only fight last year.
Ahead of their bout in Saudi Arabia, Adames – from the Dominican Republic – was not at the press conference in London today, but Sheeraz promised he would fulfil his destiny next month.
“This is the opportunity. If I’m not ready now, I don’t think I’ll ever be ready,” said Sheeraz. “Ever since being eight years old, being that young kid that wanted to win that gold and green belt, February 22. It’s a hard task, I’m under no illusions what I’ve got in front of me, but I believe that I’m going to do the business, and come February 22, you’re going to have a new WBC middleweight champion of the world. I always said once I get the opportunities, once I get the platforms, I’ll deliver.”
