Michael "Second To" Nunn and Rodrigo Valdez were finally elected to IBHOF 2025

Post by scorpio83 »

Since somebody mentioned Vinny Paz who was finally inducted into the 2025 International Boxing Hall of Fame alongside with Manny Pacquiao, what were your reactions on two former World Middleweight Champions in Michael "Second To" Nunn, who was inducted under the modern category with Pacquiao and Paz and Rodrigo Valdez who was inducted under the late era old-timer category? To me, they deserved it even though there are others who were not inducted, but they would in the coming years after the next one.

I agree with both going in. Regarding Valdez, apart from the Briscoe victories, he list of wins does not impress me. However, he was a great fight imo and his bouts with Monzon, thought losing efforts, confirms this.

Thanks for your opinion Goose and I hope "Bad" Bennie Briscoe would one day being elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame under the Old-Timer category like his rivals in Carlos Monzon (who was inducted under the then Modern category) and Rodrigo Valdez (who was inducted posthumously under the Old-Timer category). There are other former champions and contenders who are yet inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame under the modern and old-time category in the coming years. The IBHOF committee did the right thing because the induction Paz, Nunn and Valdez were long overdue.

I don't know about the induction of Valdez to be honest. Michael Nunn was right on the bubble. He's more deserving than Valdez. Who else was on the ballot this year, does anyone have the full ballot?

They wouldn't tell who were on the ballot before certain boxers were eventually inducted.

Starting a Women's category in the Boxing Hall of Fame is a stretch. There are only like 4 or 5 Female Boxers that I'd consider to be Hall of Fame worthy.

Pazienza is a weak inductee I must say. Weaker than Nunn. Nunn also isn't a particularly impressive inductee.

Pac is the only one of those names that's a no-brainer. The rest of 'em, I'm not even sure they belong.

I find it curious Nunn missed out on so many contemporaries
No McCallum, Jones, Johnson, Jackson, Hearns, etc.

Thomas "Hitman" Hearns (2012), "The Bodysnatcher" Mike McCallum (2003), Julian "The Hawk" Jackson (2019) and Roy Jones Jr. (2022) were inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame while I don't know you were talking about either Glen or Reggie Johnson are still not inducted yet, but Nunn was elected to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame for 2025 to join Hearns, Jones, McCallum and Jackson as Nunn earned his long overdue honor.

I'm curious why he didn't fight any of them. Nunns career seems less like a colossal waste given the talent available to fight. He missed out on the vast vast majority of guys you would have expected him to face

Some of these guys were not in his weight class for a long time and guys miss each other when they are fighting someone else that is good. For example, Kalambay beat McCallum, and not then not long after Nunn stopped Kalambay.
Nunn and Reggie Johnson did not have a long time to fight either. Jones is a different case. They were both super Middle weight and light heavyweights at the same time for several years. Always wondered if Jones did not want that fight.

Nunn never fought McCallum, who was never knocked out nor stopped, but Nunn knocked Kalambay out if you meant.
