Tme to look at the current crop of Cuban heavyweights. Perennial underachievers, historically there is always bags of talent and the inevitable impressive amateur experience.

Based in the US and Europe, which one of this lot will FINALLY reach the top????



Luiz Ortiz

Still listed at number one.

Slowly fading out, he occupies a similar place to kubrat pulev, super old but probably still a bit of a beast for many at b level.

Next is Frank Sanchez.

Its such a shame about the injury against Kabayel. This is a result that maybe justifies a rematch, but it would be a backward step for team kab...and risky.

My fear is the clearly gifted Sanchez could disappear from the scene a bit like Odlanier Solis.

Next up is another decent newcomer

Jose Larduet.

Based in Germany 13-0, he has a decent test this weekend against the slick Ukrainian bohdan myronets.

The Pero siblings are next.

Lenier and Dainier.

Good amateurs, Lenier is better, and a southpaw. Still pretty much pro novices but with huge amateur experience.
Olympian Lenier briefly had a silly alphabet ranking after only 5 or 6 fights? He really needs to get himself a big step up fight. Now is the time.

Dainier fights the wild swinging old timer Walter Burns soon but also needs to step up.

Angelo Morejon is 6-0(6) he has a small and losing amateur record but fighting in Italy is not going to have much chance of building momentum or decent experience. However atm he has won all his pro fights by the big Ko.

Another newcomer is 6-0
Herich Ruiz Cordoba, 29, based in USA. Small and patchy amateur record but has two wins over sanchez

Yoandy Toirac could be an interesting newcomer. I haven't seen anything of him yet but he has a big amateur pedigree, is 29, based in USA. His first pro fight was certainly different, he took on a blast from the past Lateef Kayode,stopping him in 4.

*I suppose we should also note that another once decent Cuban Mikey Perez, who has been carrying on with his veteran career at cruiserweight has recently gained an alphabet ranking at heavyweight..... for no reason whatsoever.

Sanchez is the best current Cuban HW by a significant margin, even coming off that loss. Ortiz is done. Boxrec ratings are a joke anyways, they don't matter.

Sanchez, Larduet or the Peros should target Ortiz as their next fight. Big opportunity to name themselves the number one Cuban and also get a lot of attention. Ortiz is past it and I would see Sanchez winning nearly every round against him.

lenier pero is going nowhere. his fight vs viktor was a pittiful display from both guys given their amateur background. vik was winning and had hurt pero before quitting on an inaucous looking body shot late on. pero was ragdoll ko'd in the ams by hrgovic and clarke among others, already 33, hasnt even completed 1 round in 2024

dainier is only 25, is boxing his 5th time in 2024, more of a natural heavy, not been bounced off the canvas like his bro. id defo rather invest in him than lenny

sanchez probably the best, but his style is poop on the eyes and with that loss he's lost some shine

Dainier "The Fear" Pero looked alright tonight !

But yes dainier is way above this level.

Nate Heaven WOW i remember him in the BOXCINO tournament a few years ago, knocked out the 9 - 0 Donovan Dennis, then got KOd in 1 round by regular loser Stacey Frazier, NATE HEAVEN is like a poor mans DEONTAY WILDER, still would be interesting if he was still around fighting, didnt he have a comeback fight vs IVAN DYSHKO and got stopped in the 2nd round.NATE HEAVEN vs RAY EDWARDS would have been a decent fight.
