Sebastian Fundora vs. Errol Spence | PBC PPV - 2025

Sebastian Fundora vs Errol Spence Jr deal agreed for October

Sebastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr are expected to meet in the fall.

Sebastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr have a deal in place for a fight in October, according to ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger.

The fight — which would take place in the Dallas area, possibly at AT&T Stadium if a date is available — would see Fundora defend the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles against Spence, a former welterweight titleholder.

Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KO) took the WBO belt from Tim Tszyu and grabbed the vacant WBC strap in the process on Mar. 30 in Las Vegas, winning a split decision over 12 bloody rounds, a fight that Fundora was not meant to be in. He had replaced the injured Keith Thurman in the PBC pay-per-view main event. Fundora was originally set to face Serhii Bohachuk on the undercard.

Spence (28-1, 22 KO) hasn’t fought since an absolute thrashing at the hands of Terence “Bud” Crawford in July 2023, which was just his second fight since 2020. The 34-year-old has recently become entangled in a dispute with now-former trainer Derrick James regarding alleged owed monies to James. Spence has also had a little social media beef with Ryan Garcia, who is trained by James, but obviously nothing is coming of that.

Spence was named as a likely Fundora opponent right after the fight in March, and it seems that is the way we’re headed. The 34-year-old Spence has a lot of question marks about his overall health and boxing future, while the 26-year-old Fundora is coming in off of easily his biggest win as a pro.

Well, you know the answer! Al's boy! :TU: Actually Fundora said he would like to fight Spence, probably bc of his name profile but of course that the more logical fight would've been vs Bud.

If he wins, then Crawford had to beat the living crap out of someone just to fight a final eliminator for the title of the guy he just destroyed.

That's WBC/boxing for you.

Look at Crawford and Spence and their level of name opponent.

This isn't what you expect is it, these are two high level boxers, look at everyone else and they come up with this.

Gervonta
Crawford
Spence

All no name opponents.

Errol Spence vs. Sebastian Fundora 'a really intriguing fight,' says PBC spokesman

While a potential match between former welterweight titleholder Errol Spence Jr. and junior middleweight Sebastian Fundora has yet to be made official, it remains a fascinating fight that could wind up on one of Premier Boxing Champions’ pay-per-view slots on Amazon’s Prime Video.

“That’s an intriguing fight to me, just to see how Errol comes back after that loss to [Terence] Crawford, see how he performs at 154 pounds,” said Tim Smith, the vice president of communications at Haymon Sports, speaking to Kurt Emhoff on the Boxing Esq. Podcast. Al Haymon, a longtime boxing adviser, is the founder of Premier Boxing Champions. “We’ve got to see who his trainer’s going to be and whether that trainer will tweak his style or work with the style that he already has.”

Spence hasn’t fought since his July 2023 technical knockout loss to Crawford, who unified his own world title with Spence’s three, earning the Omaha star recognition as the undisputed welterweight champion. Since then, Spence and longtime trainer Derrick James have also split and sued each other over a disagreement about how much money Spence owed James.

Fundora topped Tim Tszyu in March for a pair of world titles in a bloody bout where Tszyu suffered a horrifying cut from an accidental collision between his head and Fundora’s elbow.

“I was really impressed with Fundora in the Tszyu fight because Fundora, for all of his height, he used to always fight inside,” Smith said. “But in that fight, with the cut and everything, he was able to use his height and keep Tim Tszyu at a distance. I thought I would never see that guy use his height. Is he going to go back to being an inside fighter if he fights Spence, or does he use his distance, does he use his height? That’s a really intriguing fight if that comes to fruition.”

Although there was a report in May that Spence and Fundora had agreed to fight this October, that does not appear to be the case. The fight isn’t officially on yet, though it also isn’t necessarily off.

Fundora was waiting on the results of this weekend’s Israil Madrimov-Crawford fight to see what his next steps could be.

Errol Spence vs. Sebastian Fundora and Manny Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios double-header is possible for December.

It’s an interesting card in a trainwreck type of way, as Spence and Pacquiao are ring-worn and not ideal candidates to be challenging for world titles. The tickets would sell, and it could bring in some PPV buys for PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view.

Alan Dawson reports that Spence-Fundora and Pacquiao-Barrios could be happening on the same night in December. Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) would challenge WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs).

If Fundora wins, especially in impressive enough fashion, then maybe Turki will want to set up Fundora versus the winner of Bud vs GGG.

I think Bud will very likely decision GGG, and then Towering Inferno vs Bud could be a great and viable alternative to Bud vs Canelo.

This bout, if it's made and finalized, is a great alternative to Bud-Canelo.

Spence obviously pulled out. Wise decision on his part.

Bud's going to demand an extremely favored purse percentage.

80-20 very likely.

Will Fundura go with that, or turn it down, which will also have him stripped of his 154 WBO belt.

Seems like a potential Big Unfair Mess scenario is about to start brewing.

If it’s ordered IE a mandatory and Fundora is the WBO champ and Bud the Interim, isnt the purse split decided by the WBO?

Exactly my first question!
You have to be a belt holder with the organisation to step up in weight and get a title shot.
And I would seriously think Spence needs a warm up first.

Way risky as another comeback fight for Spence, but at this weight and by tailoring his body shots on Fundora's figure, he can win it.

Sebastian Fundora, Bakhram Murtazaliev plans begin to give shape to 154

Boxing’s best division is ready to flex its depth as the plans for junior middleweight titleholders Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev started to unfold Friday.

Fundora, 21-1-1 (13 KOs), and former three-belt welterweight titleholder Errol Spence Jnr, 28-1 (22 KOs), are currently awaiting contracts to be sent to them by Premier Boxing Champions, according to Fundora promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.

Confirming a report by boxing writer Dan Rafael of the “Fight Freaks Unite!” Substack newsletter, Lewkowicz said the bout is being targeted for March 29 in Las Vegas.

As for WBC/WBO titlist Fundora, he will only be able to defend his WBC belt against the top-ranked Spence. WBO President Gustavo Olivieri told BS last month that his organization won’t sanction the fight.

Spence hasn’t fought since his crushing July 2023 loss to Terence Crawford, he has never fought at 154lbs, and he is not ranked in the WBO’s top 15, Olivieri said in explaining his position.

If Fundora loses to Spence, the WBO belt will go to interim titleholder Crawford, who wears the WBA 154lbs belt by virtue of his August 3 unanimous decision victory over Israil Madrimov.

Madrimov is now headed to a February 22 showdown with unbeaten Vergil Ortiz Jnr in Saudi Arabia.

And after defending his belt for the first time with an impressive knockout of former titleholder Tim Tszyu in October while fighting with a broken knuckle, Murtazaliev is interested in returning by May against either Crawford, the Ortiz-Madrimov winner or recent WBC interim belt holder Serhii Bohachuk, his promoter Kathy Duva told BS on Friday.

Crawford’s interest is in fighting super middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May.

“He’s always interested in being in tough,” Duva said of Murtazaliev. “His No. 1 wish is Terence Crawford. If not, there’s a lot of top fighters in that division and some welterweights interested in moving up. We’ll sit back and let those fights happen” while recovering and taking the period around Ramadan off.

“[Bohachuk] is a fight I’d love to see. [Murtazaliev] is going to match up best with guys who fight like Bohachuk. That’s an amazing fight. Let’s just see.”

Murtazaliev may also be connected to a 154lbs fight that may land on the Fundora-Spence card.

The IBF currently lacks a No. 1 or 2 contender at 154lbs, but the promoters for third-ranked Erickson Lubin, 26-2 (18 KOs), and eighth-ranked Ardreal Holmes, 17-0 (6 KOs), are in negotiations to fight, with the winner positioned to become Murtazaliev’s mandatory foe.

Duva said her fighter will be happy to meet his mandatory in the fall.

“There’s lots of interesting fights. It’s a great division to be in. And Bakhram has made it clear he wants the biggest fights he can get to,” Duva said. “So we’re working on it.”
