Savannah Marshall wants Claressa Shields rematch at heavyweight
Savannah Marshall hopes to face Claressa Shields again in 2025
Savannah Marshall is hoping that a move to “heavyweight” — which really means light heavyweight, but it doesn’t matter much — will entice Claressa Shields into a rematch this year.
The two met as middleweights in 2022.
From Sky Sports:
“I think I’ll follow suit with Claressa, go up. Hopefully that sets up that fight again. ... I went over to MMA hoping to catch her there, that hasn’t materialized. Get a fight in March and then hopefully her in the summer.”
Marshall, who believes she’d have no problem carrying the extra weight because “the pool’s so shallow with competition,” also believes — and rightly so — that it’s “the biggest fight out there” for both she and Shields.
Shields defeated Marshall in Oct. 2022 in a long-awaited rematch from their amateur days, where Marshall had beaten Shields before Claressa became the clear top dog at their weight.
Shields (15-0, 3 KO) has boxed twice since beating Marshall, with a middleweight defense against Maricela Cornejo in summer 2023, and one last summer at “heavyweight” and light heavyweight against Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse, where Shields found herself against an opponent so hopelessly outclassed that she scored her first stoppage win since her fourth pro fight in 2017.
Shields is currently set to face Danielle Perkins on Feb. 2 in Flint, Michigan, her hometown.
Marshall (13-1, 10 KO) hasn’t boxed since the summer of 2023, when she beat Franchon Crews-Dezurn to briefly become the undisputed super middleweight champion.

Re: Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall II - 2025?
Marshall doesn't seem to have any passion for the sport, just the payday. She could have spent 2024 fighting Green and Crews while working on game plan that could win her a fight against Shields, unlike fighting like a spastic last time. Instead it's just more talk. Retire or pick her weight and collect belts, but stop going on about Shields... it's boring.

Claressa Shields interested in rematch with Savannah Marshall at heavyweight
Claressa Shields has beaten Savannah Marshall at middleweight but now targets a rematch at heavyweight.
Fresh off of her heavyweight title win over Danielle Perkins, Claressa Shields is setting her sights on a rematch of her 2022 fight with Savannah Marshall — but this one she wants to stage at heavyweight according to her promoter Dmitry Sailta. Shields took a unanimous decision win over Marshall in their first meeting at the middleweight division.
Salita says he’s formally reached out to Marshall’s team about their interest and hopes to bring the fight to fruition, adding that Shields additional power at heavyweight makes her an even bigger threat to score a knockout.
“We’ve had general discussions over the past several months and have expressed our interest in making the rematch happen,” Dmitry Salita, Shields’ promoter, told Sky Sports. “I believe she will stop Savannah with the power she possesses at heavyweight.”
If this proposed rematch is to gain any traction Salita says the fight would need to be either staged in the US or in a neutral location and not in England where they fought the first time. Shields is as accomplished as they come at this point and would appear to be angling for an opponent that will bring as much money and notoriety as possible, with Marshall being a significant name in women’s boxing.
