Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns 2 (1988-1989)

Post by EdwardRevolver1993 »

Had Hagler gotten the decision against Leonard and had Hagler-Hearns 2 happened instead of Leonard-Hearns 2...

How their rematch would've gone?

This question actually causes so many more hypothetical questions that it's hard to answer.

Would Hagler have continued his career with a win over Leonard or would he have retired anyway? How much longer would he have continued?

If the answer is yes he would've. He still would've lost a step by this time in his career so Tommy Hearns would undoubtedly have done better in a rematch 3 or 4 years later, but it's hard to say what Hagler would've been capable of in 1988 or 1989 since we never saw it.

By watching how clumsy Marvelous was against Sugar Ray Leonard in '87, I would give Tommy Hearns a hell of a chance.

Even the Roberto Duran that beat Iran Barkley beats that version of Marvelous. He looked totally flat! I would not be surprised if Tommy knocks him out in '88 or '89.

Like Hearns said when he stopped James Schuler in one round: "People saw fight #1, but they haven't seen fight #2!"
