Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano trilogy fight sees most expensive tickets sell for eye-watering prices

The Bray boxer will take on the Puerto Rican for a third time on July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York for the undisputed super-lightweight championship

The most expensive tickets for Katie Taylor’s trilogy bout with Amanda Serrano are being sold for $1 million.

The Bray boxer will take on the Puerto Rican for a third time on July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York for the undisputed super-lightweight championship.

The 36-year-old, who is an Olympic gold medalist, has beaten Serrano on the last two occasions they faced off.

Most Valuable Promotions, which is an organiser of the bout, announced there would be four tiers of VIP packages which went on pre-sale yesterday - the most expensive of which will set boxing buffs back $1 million.

This is called the MVP Owner’s Experience and promises to provide "unparalleled seats, access, and amenities during fight week and on fight night.”

High-rollers who go for this option will have access to a private box designed for two people in front of the ring.

They will also get four front row seats, a private green room inside the New York Knicks’ Locker Room with a top-shelf open bar, all-inclusive food menu, and a meet and greet with a New York Knicks legend - but who this is has yet to be disclosed.

Boxing fans will also get to meet Serrano along with her promoter and manager Jake Paul.

They will also be able to walk out behind Serrano and her team ahead of the main event along with a post-fight in-ring photo opportunity.

Those who splash the cash won’t enter like everybody else and will be able to get access to the arena through a VIP entry.

Luxury transportation to and from the fight, security, and personal concierge during the week with fight week merchandise bags and a fight night poster signed by Taylor and Serrano will also be provided.

Other VIP packages include the Emerald, The Diamond, and the Platinum which have varying degrees of perks.

Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, who are co-founders of MVP said: “Taylor vs. Serrano 3 will be a historic night as the world witnesses the return of Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano to Madison Square Garden for their final clash, in one of the greatest rivalries that boxing has ever seen,

“MVP is committed to providing an unparalleled fan experience on Friday, July 11, and we have partnered with Elevate to provide a selection of premium ticketing options for in-person fans, including the return of our first-of-its-kind MVP Owner’s Experience after its successful debut at Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson last November.

Sounds and reads like complete BS to promote the fight. Surely there's nobody who would spend that amount of money on something I would genuinely not do if you paid me.

Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano 3 ticket sales have already surpassed first fight totals

The brass at Madison Square Garden came out of the epic first Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano championship clash with the hope that it would pave the way for even more historic nights.

The first day of general ticket sales for their trilogy clash have already exceeded those expectations.

Event handlers have confirmed that the live gate for the third act between two of the sport’s absolute best has already eclipsed the final take from the 2022 Fight of the Year at MSG. The famed venue will play host to their highly anticipated undisputed junior welterweight championship on July 11 atop an all-women’s card to stream live on Netflix.

“Our first day of ticket on-sale for Taylor Serrano 3 and we have just surpassed total ticket revenue of the first iconic match between Amanda & Katie at MSG,” Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, declared on Wednesday. “Amazing.”

Ireland’s Taylor, 24-1 (6 KOs) will once again risk her fully unified junior welterweight championship against Serrano, 47-3-1 (31 KOs), a Brooklyn-bred Boricua who fights on MSG grounds for the fifth time in her storied career.

Their April 2022 meeting saw a then-unbeaten Taylor defend her undisputed lightweight championship via split decision. Their unforgettable clash—the first women’s bout to ever headline at MSG—came before an announced, sold-out and rabid crowd of 19,187 which generated a live gate of $1,450,180.60 in final sales.

Taylor-Serrano 3 will easily push past the $2,000,000 mark in due time and will likely once again produce a full sellout. Presale began Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. ET, with tickets released to the general public exactly 24 hours later.

The response was swift—and pleasing to the hosting site.

“Madison Square Garden has been home to the biggest boxing matches in history—including the ‘Fight of the Century’ (Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali I) and the 2022 bout between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano,” Joel Fisher, MSG executive vice president of operations told BS in a provided statement.

“We are proud to welcome these extraordinary athletes back to The World’s Most Famous Arena for another historic moment with our first-ever all female professional boxing card.”

Taylor is currently 2-0 in their series, though many have argued that Serrano could just as easily have won both fights.

On both occasions, Serrano was one fight removed from featherweight—where she remains the lineal, Ring, WBA, IBF and WBO champion. She came up just short in a first fight that could’ve gone either way.

Their sensational rematch last November 15 generated record numbers but also sparked greater outrage. Taylor won by scores of 95-94 on all three scorecards to defend the same undisputed 140lbs crown that will be at stake in July. However, most viewers felt that Serrano was done a disservice by the judges that night at AT&T Stadium, home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.

Scoring debate aside, the ten-round affair delivered and then some on both sides of the ropes. Their instant classic served as the chief support to the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson novelty heavyweight fight. The co-feature produced an estimated 74,000,000 viewers in the first ever live boxing event on Netflix and the most watched women’s combat sports fight in U.S. history.

‘I’m in the driver’s seat here’: Katie Taylor explains why didn’t abide by deal with Amanda Serrano

Katie Taylor says Amanda Serrano isn’t in position to dictate terms of their third fight as the challenger.

During today’s press conference that formally announced July 11 MVP card headlined by a third fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, all the fighters appeared at the event to talk about the show. During one part of session Taylor and Serrano began to exchange words over broken promises and the official results of their last fight.

Serrano on Taylor not following through with their handshake deal to fight 12 three-minute rounds
“We shook on it, you can roll the tapes. We shook on it, she didn’t agree when we went to sign the contract. Listen, I was undisputed champion and I believe I wanted to fight three-minutes, 12 rounds.

“I believe women can do it, we’re capable of it as you saw, and the WBC said no so I had to give up one of my babies. I worked hard for that belt, I worked hard for all my belts. They decided they weren’t going to go with it so I had to give it up. I had to go with what I believed in and I believed in the 12 threes so if that’s her choice, that’s her choice but I believe women should get the recognition and the equality that men get.”

Taylor’s response to going through with the three minute rounds
“I think we shook on it depending on if you won the fight. But regardless I think it’s a matter of principle that the challenger shouldn’t be dictating the terms of the fight. I am 2-0 here and I’m in the drivers seat here, and that’s only right. At the end of the day Amanda needs this fight a lot more than I do. I have a long history of big fights against big names and a line of people queuing up to fight me for the payday.

“I think the point of a three-minute round was to prove to people that you get more knockouts — how many knockouts did you get in your 12 three-minute rounds? Zero. They end up being boring fights. And it wasn’t a good advertisement for 12 three-minute rounds for women, it was boring. So I don’t think Netflix are too disappointed that this fight is a 10 two-minute round fight.”

Taylor on Serrano believing the world saw her win in her last fight despite the official loss
“I’m uninterested in what Amanda says about the fight, I’m only interested in what the judges say about the fight. And I am 2-0 here and July 11th I’m going to be 3-0.”

Serrano’s reaction to Taylor’s comments
“The world has eyes. They saw what they saw. It sucks that it takes three judges, three people who saw something completely different but millions of people saw it another way.”

Taylor on the official decision of their rematch
“Even with the ridiculous point deduction during that fight the three judges still saw it my way. I was the deserved winner and here we are again having a silly conversation because you’re trying to create a narrative that you were robbed in that fight. That’s not okay, Amanda.”

MVP adds two unification bouts to Taylor vs Serrano 3 undercard

Ellie Scotney and Shuretta Metcalf are among the new additions to both Most Valuable Promotions and the July 11th Taylor vs Serrano 3 card

Most Valuable Promotions beefed up its roster today with the addition of unified super bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney, IBF bantamweight champion Shuretta Metcalf, interim WBA featherweight champion Jennifer Miranda, and featherweight Elizabeth Oshoba.

Scotney (10-0, 0 KOs), who owns the IBF and WBO titles at 122, will look to add to her trophy case against WBC champ Yamileth Mercado (24-3, 5 KOs) on the July 11th Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3 undercard. Mercado is BoxRec’s no. 1 at the weight, undefeated since a 2021 decision loss to Amanda Serrano and boasting a decision over Ramla Ali last June.

Metcalf (14-4-1, 2 KOs) battles promotional veteran Dina Thorslund (23-0, 9 KOs), owner of the WBC and WBO titles, while Miranda (12-0, 1 KOs) faces Alycia Baumgardner in a bout first revealed last week.

Middleweight Tamm Thibeault (2-0, 1 KOs) also faces Mary Casamassa (6-0, 1 KOs) over eight three-minute rounds.

We’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying again: Jake Paul has been an absolute boon to women’s boxing, and for as much of an awful person he is in other regards, credit where it’s due.

AMANDA SERRANO PLANS ON GOING ALL OUT, GUNNING FOR KO AGAINST KATIE TAYLOR

New York - First, Amanda Serrano tried to box. When that didn’t work, she tried to brawl. Yet, no matter how many times she issued a new game plan, Katie Taylor found a way to eke out the victory.

Still, Serrano might be down 0-2 but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to give up. Taylor is great, legendary really, but Serrano wholeheartedly believes she’s the better fighter. Come July 11th, they’ll do it again.

Madison Square Garden was the scene of their original matchup in 2022, so it’s only right that they’ll return to their good ole stomping grounds.

When Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) was forced to deal with defeat in their first showdown, she was apoplectic. That rage she ultimately felt, fueled her to five straight wins, enough to warrant a sequel.

In 2024, Serrano was even more adamant that she got the short end of the stick. But while she fulminated and banged on the doors of the judges, she’ll have to live with the results. Taylor, on the other hand, doesn’t have any complaints. She believes the scorecards were just and fair.

Serrano though, with her fists clenched and teeth grinding together, has had enough. Outpointing Taylor seems impossible. Out-hustling her is ostensibly off the table as well.

Roughly four months are remaining until they meet up again. During that span, Serrano won’t waste her time working on the fundamentals. Her consistent jab and bodywork haven’t done her any favors. So instead of going tit for tat and engaging in a pure boxing match, Serrano is working on her raw power. She’s also working on ways that she can quietly deliver those kill shots without Taylor noticing in time.

“We’re working on a few things, to make sure that once we hurt her, we’ll get the knockout,” said Serrano to several reporters in New York. “We’re working.”

Serrano should have won both fights. I hope she doesn't get robbed again, but she may win by knockout.

SAVANNAH MARSHALL TO FIGHT SHADASIA GREEN ON TAYLOR-SERRANO 3 UNDERCARD JULY 11 AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

Savannah Marshall will face another super middleweight champion in her first boxing match in more than two years.

The Ring has learned that Marshall and Shadasia Green have agreed to fight July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Their 10-round, 168-pound title unification bout will be streamed by Netflix as part of the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano undercard.

Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions announced Monday that it signed Marshall and former undisputed junior welterweight champ Chantelle Cameron to exclusive contracts. Marshall wants a rematch with Claressa Shields, the No. 1 fighter on The Ring’s women’s pound-for-pound list, but she’ll have to go through Green to remain in position to try to avenge her lone professional loss to Shields (16-0, 3 KOs), a five-division champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

Marshall (13-1, 10 KOs), of Hartlepool, England, and Green (15-1, 11 KOs), of Paterson, New Jersey, will fight for Marshall’s Ring and IBF super middleweight titles and Green’s WBO belt.

The 33-year-old Marshall will box for the first time since he edged another American, Baltimore’s Franchon Crews Dezurn, by majority decision in July 2023 to win the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO 168-pound championships. Her victory over Crews Dezurn (9-2, 2 KOs) marked Marshall’s only boxing appearance since Shields defeated her by unanimous decision in their middleweight title unification fight in October 2022 at O2 Arena in London.

Crews Dezurn, who has lost only decisions to Marshall and Shields, is the lone opponent to beat Green since Green turned pro six years ago. Crews Dezurn has recaptured the WBA and WBC 168-pound crowns since Marshall beat her.

The 35-year-old Green returned from her unanimous points loss to Crews Dezurn in December 2023 to win the then-vacant WBO belt two fights later. The former Old Dominion University point guard defeated Canada’s Melinda Watpool (7-1, 2 KOs) by split decision on the Paul-Mike Tyson undercard November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Crews Dezurn is The Ring’s No. 1 contender for Marshall’s title. Green is ranked second among The Ring’s contenders in the super middleweight division.

Like Shields, Marshall competed in mixed martial arts during her hiatus from boxing. The two-time Olympian technically knocked out Mirela Vargas in the first round of her MMA debut on a PFL card last June 8 at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England.

CHERNEKA JOHNSON REPLACES PREGNANT DINA THORSLUND, TO FACE SHURRETTA METCALF ON JULY 11

Most Valuable Promotions announced Thursday that Dina Thorslund has withdrawn from her July 11 fight against Shurretta Metcalf after discovering that she's pregnant with her second child.

Cherneka Johnson has stepped in for Thorslund and will now face Metcalf in a bantamweight title unification bout at Madison Square Garden in New York on the undercard of the trilogy fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano next month on Netflix.

In parallel moves, MVP announced that Thorslund vacated her WBO title and was designated as the WBC's champion in recess, the fight between Johnson and Metcalf will be for the 118-pound undisputed title, and that Johnson, who was tied to promoter Lou Dibella, entered a multi-year promotional agreement with MVP.

"Life can be such a roller coaster, especially as a female boxer. I was really looking forward to this fight, the biggest moment of my career," said Thorslund (23-0, 9 KOs), a 30-year-old from Denmark who signed with MVP in March.

"Recently, I found out I was pregnant, a curve I hadn't expected, but a joyous one. Even though the decision was easy, the athlete in me is sad, as I so wanted to stand in that ring and make history. But I'll be back. The fire that MVP has lit in me only burns even stronger, and when I do step back in the ring, there will be another little person that I can fight for and be a role model for. I plan to show my child that nothing is impossible if you work hard enough for it."

Johnson (17-2, 7 KOs), a 30-year-old Australian, will be making her United States debut.

"This feels like a true pinch-me moment, being part of an all-women’s card headlined by the incredible Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor," said Johnson. "I'm truly looking forward to this next chapter and being part of Most Valuable Promotions, which are paving the way and shaping the future of women's boxing. The magnitude of this moment isn't lost on me, and I’m ready to rise to it."

The 40-year-old Texan Metcalf (14-4-1, 2 KOs) must now prepare for a new opponent on five weeks' notice.

"Nothing in my career has come easy, but every fight, every sacrifice led to this moment," said Metcalf. "I was built for this. My time is now, and I will rise and conquer."
