This is an injustice to Whitaker, who was always known to be a lightweight. The majority of his career was at 135. The only reason why he ventured into the higher weights was to hunt down Chavez. Whitaker knew he would never get a unification fight at 140 and knew Chavez was aiming for his 4th belt so he instead beat Chavez to it and won the WBC Welterweight crown. Once you win at the higher weight you never move back down. So do we fault Pernell?
Please consider ranking Pernell as a lightweight, his true and natural division.
