Earnie Shavers' height

Post by scorpio83 »

Yes, I know that Shavers' height was listed at 6 feet tall in most sources, but when I watched his fights against Jerry Quarry, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Ken Norton and James "Quick" Tillis when they stood at the center of the ring, Shavers was a little taller than Quarry by half an inch not an inch. I looked at their tale of the tape, the heights of both Shavers and Quarry stood 6'1" and 6'0 1/2" respectively, but I believe their heights were exaggerated by half an inch. Since Quarry stood 6 feet tall, then Shavers stood 6'0 1/2". Also, I watched closer of the Shavers vs. Tillis fight when they stood at the center of the ring for the referee's instructions, Tillis at 6'2" was taller than Shavers by an inch and a half. I hope one of you add Shavers' height of 6'0" into 6'0 1/2".

Why do you think Tillis was listed as 6'1" against Holyfield and 6'1.25" against Tyson ? Personally, I don't know the answer.

You're trying to compare the height of two people by looking at the television? Are you a crazy person?

Allow me to explain. When someone has their height measured correctly, it's done with the person standing up straight and can vary depending on the time of day. When a person isn't standing up straight to be measured, their height varies due to posture, slouching, leg positioning etc. Because of this, you certainly wouldn't be able to accurately measure two people standing next to each other and definitely not while on television.

Look at the Mike Weaver vs. James "Quick" Tillis fight from the HBO version before the fight where Tillis was listed 6'2" on that fight and on boxrec too, but when I looked closer when they moving, Tillis was slightly taller than Weaver, but by half an inch as Tillis may actually stands at 6'1 1/2" like his fight against Tyson nearly 5 years later. I went back and watched when Shavers and Tillis stood as Tillis was taller than Shavers by an inch as Tillis stands 6'1 1/2" which was his real height and Shavers stood 6'0 1/2". I think they should change Tillis' height from 6'2" to 6'1 1/2" and add Shavers' height from 6 feet to 6'0 1/2".
